His subsequent solo work encompassed everything from jazz-rock to orchestral pieces, always delivered with Zappa's trademark humor. Amazing addition to the Zappa listening experience, a fascinating sonic tapestry. Thank you so much for putting this together and sharing with us lucky people.
I saw Frank in '72 at Gannon College. He showed up with a bass player and two drummers. He played exactly one guitar riff, about 3 seconds, and spent the remainder of the "show" fooling with a rubber chicken. He did "sing" a bit too.
Saw Zappa in Miami 81. He sat on a bar stool that night very chill and just played. Was blown away at how good he really was. Thanks FZ for the experience.
Zappa's good and fun to listen to. Gotta say he's not exceptional, not "very good" on guitar. Like Gerry Garcia, it's the halo effect of fame and the synergy of their respective bands that gets us thinking they're "very good". Listen close to John Mayall's "Beano" album or to Richard Thompson's electric guitar playing (his acoustic is also exceptional). Very good guitar is way beyond Zappa or Garcia. -Doug Pratt, Atlanta, Georgia, USA

Same. My Les Paul is sitting in a corner about 20 feet away.......not to be corny, but when I hear some musicians, I don't feel like playing---the techniques make me sad because I can't play well, and some good music just doesnt hit me ....but Zappa---even though I can't come close to his technique, he truly played from his inner self-we are hearing the man himself, so to emulate that part of it anyway with my lousy playing....that part I can do. So, Im not trying to play his stuff because I cant, just try to pour myself out. After 20 minutes of playing, I feel great, just relaxed.
Hot Rats and Apostrophe' are my two fav Zappa albums. I think you did a bang up job. It's been years since I've listened to them, but I think is more coherent than some of his official guitar only releases. I have to wonder. Would he have loved this? Or hated it? Would he have acted indignant, affronted, but secretly enjoyed it? Or at least respected it? We all know what a control freak he was. Would he have mellowed on that had he lived to today? Would he have grown to appreciate other people wanting to put their personal touches on his masterpieces, incorporate their art in to his genius? Would he accept as a sign of respect? Or would he have only gotten more stubborn, bullheaded, and derided anyone who dare to alter or adulterate his "perfect" compositions? There's no answer of course. But nothing has ever made me ask that question before your project here, and it was as fun to think about as it is to listen to this composition. You nailed it.
BR man! What can I express that hasn't already been said of your time and dedication. Let me just add one more heartfelt 'thank you!' All the best to you.
I think that the late Max Bennett deserves credit for his excellent bass work. In his own words, "I was not familiar with Zappa’s music. Our paths never crossed. I was never a big fan of avant garde music in that sense. It was while I was working in the studio, what was it, 1967 [sic], I think? And I got a call from John Guerin. He said, ‘Get your stuff over to TTG’ - that was in Hollywood - ‘I got a double session for you with Frank Zappa.’ So we get there and we worked two double sessions for two nights. And that was the album, that was Hot Rats”.
Hot Rats is one of my fave FZ albums (OSFA is tops) and I think this is even better. Meat n' potatoes music soaking in such groovy guitar gravy. One legacy's shoes that will never be (ful)filled unless this is a mighty long resurrection period. Zappa saves.

i got out of the army and vietnam january 1971.....bought a motorcycle, freak out album, good shrooms and the rest is history.....i think i might like EVERYTHING he has done...mid 80s i changed from vinyl to cassette and put all his stuff in the order i liked...still have the tapes and some cds....love his music, attitude, fellow artists...when i heard he was going to run for president in 1992 i wanted to be his texas committee leader but alas he had a more important gig....saw him live at the armadillo world headquarters in austin texas december of 1980......truly enjoyed growing up aside him....my c.b. handle was waka jawaka....
@Tim Hawkins - This is great music. Maybe someone doesn't like FZ. Any preference is legitimate, but then what are these people looking for on my channel? Do they think they can find Lady Gaga's latest single?
Because Frank was a creative genius, he had the ability to improvise/jam/riff endlessly. If you were an attentive listener, I swear his playing could put you in a very pleasurable trance and take you to musical "places" hitherto unexplored .....
He really had a jazz attitude as far as never repeating a solo He admitted he hates all his recorded solos because of their frozen in time nature...... He knew he had a certain space to improvise and did it in the NOW Great way to try and live in THE NOW
I grew up on Zappa and was always fascinated by his wash wash solos. I love to practice my guitar soloing to Zappa solos. Just playing alongside gives me new insights and ideas. I recently read his own description of his soloing concepts - he said he uses the Pentatonic scale, minor scale and modal playing. That lead me to learning scales and modes on guitar. Listening to his longer solos one can begin to experience his "musical thinking" in action. Thanks for putting this up on RUclips.
When I was in college Zappa did an album and tour called Shut Up And Play Your Guitar. Best concert I ever saw and I saw the Kinks and The Who and Heart and Van Halen.
Zappa did everything great: Compose, vocal, host EMC, conduct--but. His guitar. His guitar is going to kill your mamma. His guitar is much higher on the list than is generally listed about all-time "greats." He did much that pleases me, but little more than something like his guitar solo on the 79 live bootleg "Wind Up Shitting in a Gas Station" during the song "The Torture Never Stops." If only that guitar would never stop. This compilation really expresses the feeling. Thanks.
It is another beautiful day for you to share your love of the genius Frank Zappa. I, as well as many fans, look so forward to this and thank you for your ingenuity and time in compiling these great works. Hats off to you 🎩🎸🍻

Frank-amente la guitarra de este señor actúa sobre mi como la flauta del manejador de serpientes, me hipnotiza, el quizás no lo sabia y falleció.
damn man what an incredible session of jam. imagine if someone did this non stop at a concert, i think the world would just be over after that.
Br1tag : thanks (once again) for this new "incentive". GREAT !
He died way too young....he's greatly appreciated now here in the USA but he was deeply respected by Vasclav Havel and served as a US diplomat to the Czech Republic
Wait what? I keep meaning to read up on Zappa. He’s a genius ❤
27mn of Willie the Pimp ? WTF ? Even the spotify extended version is not that long. That's so good !!! I'm always amazed of how this man was a cornucopia.
i got out of the army and vietnam january 1971.....bought a motorcycle, freak out album, good shrooms and the rest is history.....i think i might like EVERYTHING he has done...mid 80s i changed from vinyl to cassette and put all his stuff in the order i liked...still have the tapes and some cds....love his music, attitude, fellow artists...when i heard he was going to run for president in 1992 i wanted to be his texas committee leader but alas he had a more important gig....saw him live at the armadillo world headquarters in austin texas december of 1980......truly enjoyed growing up aside him....my c.b. handle was waka jawaka....

104 dislikes.. WTF is wrong with these people?? I love this!!
@Tim Hawkins - This is great music. Maybe someone doesn't like FZ. Any preference is legitimate, but then what are these people looking for on my channel? Do they think they can find Lady Gaga's latest single?
chaotic evil
maravilloso , exquisito amigo te eres un héroe mis respeto saludos greetings from Peru!!!!
He spoke, through his guitar-medium.
Ya for sure he spoke and he had si many to say.
And he spoke...Frankly! 🙂
Turned on to Frank in 1970 find we ARE a rare breed...new appreciation is known though!
THIS will teach my neighbor a lesson!! 👿😈😎😂
You got that right? I hit her up today.
Because Frank was a creative genius, he had the ability to improvise/jam/riff endlessly. If you were an attentive listener, I swear his playing could put you in a very pleasurable trance and take you to musical "places" hitherto unexplored .....
He really had a jazz attitude as far as never repeating a solo
He admitted he hates all his recorded solos because of their frozen in time nature......
He knew he had a certain space to improvise and did it in the NOW
Great way to try and live in THE NOW
Great job, this just popped up YT and i'm glad it did.
Rare not in my household, beer n zappa parties 😊
I grew up on Zappa and was always fascinated by his wash wash solos. I love to practice my guitar soloing to Zappa solos. Just playing alongside gives me new insights and ideas. I recently read his own description of his soloing concepts - he said he uses the Pentatonic scale, minor scale and modal playing. That lead me to learning scales and modes on guitar.
Listening to his longer solos one can begin to experience his "musical thinking" in action.
Thanks for putting this up on RUclips.
This ain't your kids B.S. rap crap digital drum crap. It's the real deal! ROCK ON!!!✌😎

This and a nice large whisky, my evening is made, thank you for posting this absolute gem 👍😎
BRILLIANT and THANK YOU for posting an IMPRESSIVE Frank Zappa collection.
When I was in college Zappa did an album and tour called Shut Up And Play Your Guitar. Best concert I ever saw and I saw the Kinks and The Who and Heart and Van Halen.
FRANK ZAPPA IS A MUSIC WONDER OF THE WORLD! I JUST CANNOT GET ENOUGH OF THIS BOX.
Dweezil please have a child and teach it guitar
... like you and your dad play... hurry they are destroying the rock and roll.
Thanks.
I SAW FZ IN STOCKHOLM SWEDEN SKANSEN 1973, HE WAS INCREDIBLE FANTASTIC, I LOVE THIS...., THANKYOU..!!!
Frank zappa was incredible, one of the best, smartest and most talented guitarists in the world
It is another beautiful day for you to share your love of the genius Frank Zappa. I, as well as many fans, look so forward to this and thank you for your ingenuity and time in compiling these great works. Hats off to you 🎩🎸🍻

I"m proud I lived and grew up into this mostly happy, fun minded...have to Great Nieces I told them both I want to get silly with them a 2 and 3 yr old lol. So far it's worked.
Is this a jam or what? Is he talking thru the instrument? The answer is yes.
