This is unbelievably dumb. Break a pencil-thick branch off of a tree and attach a wet napkin to it and it'll work just the same. It's the electrical properties of water (not pure water) that allow this to work. A $1 stylus will perform better since it's made for this and you don't have to keep wetting the napkin. You also risk water-damaging your $100 Apple Pencil by doing this. Plus, no Apple Pencil tech such as the pinpoint accuracy, pressure and tilt sensitivity will work.

You don’t need an apple pencil for that. On regular basic pen wrap an aluminum foil that touch the tip and create a tip with cotton and make it wet.

You could use aluminum foil too and NOT wet your pencil. i can almost guarantee this really works and it’s because of science and how conductivity works. Pretty neat idea. The one reason it doesn’t work with just the pencil is because plastic isn’t conductive. The white part isn’t conductive, so it’s not transferring electricity through even though the device is capable. That’s why lots of styluses are made of aluminum
Also! Newest top model iPhone is about £1500 - would seem fair to make the pencil work with new models that are released post-pencil

demons This “hack” doesn’t provide touch sensitivity. You aren’t making the pencil connect to a different device. You don’t get any of the features of an Apple Pencil. You are turning it into a basic stylus by wrapping the tip in something that conducts electricity. Artists who want sensitivity need to buy the tools that let them have it. This does nothing for them.

Or how about just buy a new cap for the end of it with a capacitive tip, that way I can use it as a stylus on any device and with full functionality on the iPad. £40 for the pencil off eBay and £7 for the cap from amazon (and it came in a pack of 3 for when I inevitably loose it)
A wet Q-tip, or pointed beauty Qtip will also work on any screen as long as your finger touches the wet cotton. Not really the best alternative to a stylus though 😂

cheaper solution: get a pencil, get some toilet paper, if you dont have paper towels, wrap paper towel around pencil, wet it, and boom apple pencil.
