In this episode of Coffee Break Sessions, I'm playing some of the records that I have been collecting over the last few months. During the lockdown, I've done quite a lot of online digging. As a result I've found some amazing records from the former Yugoslavia, Bulgaria and Romania. Let me know if you guys enjoy this one. There's more to come!

Hello My Analog Journal, first of all thanks for this! Hvala/Хвала/Благодарам!
Just a small correction, the title of the last song is _Vse bolj se špuščaš_ and not _Komunikacija_ .

Yugoslavian music in the 70-ies and 80-ies was among top 3 in all of the Europe. So many great solo singers and bands. Thank you for this session!
maybe I just know the good side of it. But I loved Yugoslavia and the Yugoslavs back in the days. It looked like a class country. Now I love, Slovenia,Croatia,Serbia,Montenegro ,Bosnia and Herzegovina. Respect and luv from Bergamo. Lombardy Northern Italy
Thank you Bepi. We indeed were a class, free, strong and happy country. Much love to beautiful Italy.
Thank you, Bepi! I miss Yugoslavia, the country I was born in. Many greetings to the most gorgeous country in the world, Italy.
You only know the the good side, yes. Every coin has two sides. There would have been no war if everything was nice. However, there is nothing bad about keeping the good memories, as long as we are not idealizing and romanticizing "the good old days".
@ you don't know much, or according to your age, most likely nothing about how Yugoslavia was, and how it was destroyed, to give such an easy comment.
Greetings to you my friend and FORZA AC MILAN :)
Yugoslavian music in 70's was fenomenal, and quite progressive for its time. Check out Korni grupa, Smak, Leb i sol, and so many others. Thanx for this. Love your chanel, all best.
I have to agree what @Marko V said. I will just add a few more artists:
Haustor,
Indexi,
Grupa 220 (from KIM you missed quite a few big hits like "Sve i Svašta", "Ljubi me brzo, žurim" and "Volim te kao konja".
More artists like Asanović Igor - Pop,
Leo Martin,
Drago Mlinarec
and last but not least Josipa Lisac.

Since he's already having Zlatko Pejaković(gem of Korni grupa at the time) on this list it is already win win situation, one of the nicest male alto voices from Ex Yu. Interesting, just bought the other day vinyl Smak - Black Lady(translated on english). Točak(Wheel) was in my opinion the best guitar player back then. All in all thank you for posting this. I've been in love with this channel for a while now, from Japanese funk soul, to Turkish female singers and so many thing which I cannot mention all in here. Blesses from Serbia. 😎🍻
Smak - Blues u parku , one of the best guitar solo ever

Yugo music is really overlooked. There's good rock, good pop, good jazz, good funk and everything else under the sun. I guess because the country doesn't exist anymore it's not really looked at too often despite coming out around the same time as a lot of well remembered Western hits.
I'm Serbian - never heard of any of these and I like our 70s and 80s stuff. Damn, so happy I follow your channel

What a terrific mix! We usually hear talking about Yugoslavia for others (sadly) reasons and it's unbelievable how much things we completely ignore about it
My mom says thanks for the upload. She grew up with this music and I've been trying to spend more time listening to stuff she enjoys.

Greetings from South Carolina, USA! Thanks for giving me excellent vibes this morning. Amazing selection 👌🏼
You should really do Yugoslavian punk rock and new wave, 1978-1985 circa... Greets from Zagreb!
very nice sounds for a sunday lunchtime here in sunny brighton U.K.
You should also look into Josipa Lisac and Zdenka Kovačiček. They both have great hits like "Ti si genije" and "Hir, hir, hir" from Josipa and "Dragi mi je lijep ko slika" and "Volim te kao konja" from Zdenka. I highly recommend them if you are able to find it. I can also send you one if you want.

Quite an impressive choice, almost like an age-old true connoisseur of YU funk, so thank you for this playlist! Dino Dvornik would make a great addition to this list, his music was popular during the late 80s and 90s, and he's still considered to be the king of the funk across the ex-YU.
He had a band at that time, with his brother, Kineski Zid, check it out! :)
Yup, I agree on Dino Dvornik addition.

Thanks for this awesome morning mix. Greetings from Zadar
Love from Canada 🧡, will definitely use this when studying
Thanks for spreading love about music from Yugoslavia!!!
Yugoslavia followed world trends very closely throughout the decades and would then produce music in the genre popular at the time of extremely high quality. Not many are aware that in 60s in Yugoslavia, Mexican mariachi style music was also extremely popular, occupied airwaves for months and spurned number of homegrown artists. So pretty much every decade with every style of music, you can look at the output from Yugoslavia and hear amazing production, world class compositions, singers and musicians. I'm of course extremely biased being born there ('70) but thinking back it's somewhat mind boggling thinking about diversity and quality for a very small country, relatively.
Somewhat ironic is that even though there is so much good music, vast majority is based, like I said, on what's popular at the time. Then at the same time you have bands outside of the area who have gained a global following by playing a traditional music from Yugoslavia, a lot of it Serbian Gypsy brass, but nobody there who consider themselves modern and progressive would touch it. One notable exception is Srđan Jevđević and his Kultur Shock, but only now that he lives in the States. And that's my only criticism of the Yugoslav music, while it did have some unique ideas and bands, it was mostly following albeit doing a great job.
Which is another paradox, that what I now realize was original, we "cool kids" looked at as the redneck music. Look at Lepa Brena, you can say what you want and I thought back then that everything about her and her band was laughable, but it was original and everyone involved were world class musicians. And only recently I've learned that she was a megastar in the entire region, not just Yugoslavia.
For the bands that, to me, had something unique and original to offer (I'm sure I'll miss many who need to be mentioned that came before and after this period) look at, in no particular order, (just going through republics off of my memory and this is mostly 80s period)

Great video. And when I think, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Yugoslavia was very open and music could develop freely. There are so many more great, great music artists form that region.

This is an amazing selection of ex-Yugo music. It feels like I am sitting at home and listening to some of my dads records years ago. Great job, keep the good work coming :)
Sorry, but calling it "ex-Yugo" makes zero sense, it is Yugo music plain and simple.

@@nagsterthegangster3548 you'd have to go to the past
@@JakobKenda Man the Slavs and the UK for hip-hop are stuck in the golden ages of the 90's and I love it
A lot of songs from Yugo do that apparently, there's at least 3 rock songs I can think of that do that and a couple pop songs. I'm sure they were real proud of their country, until they weren't of course.

Yes indeed, great ear :O, and it actually inspired the greatest European organist Tihomir Pop Asanovic, who founded the band, to revive his career, made a new album, and helped us, mortals, to buy an official reissue of his noways very expensive solo albums. The record company was extremely surprised since it ended up being one of the bestsellers, hopefully, this will inspire more official reissues of 60's-70's-80's records. Check his work with Time (one of the greatest progressive rock acts in YU, also an official reissue out now) and his two extremely important solo albums. If I'm not wrong one of the producers behind Kendrick his records, sampled also something from his first solo album "Majko Zemljo"

I was never in Yugoslavia [although I wished I would have visited those days] but the music [along with Jazz from Central Europe] reminds me of the time I was in Germany and Switzerland [1973] where I was exposed to this music. I remember receiving albums, EPs, and 45s from a Polish friend when I lived in Germany and Switzerland. The other times, I remembered as a DXer [Shortwave Radio enthusiasit] receiving albums from Yugoslavia and other Eastern European countries. The music was excellent and I still have the LPs, EPs, and 45s
