TO ALL NEW CCAS, my best advice for all of you, its not a race, its a marathon, take it 1 day at a time, each day is different, just take it with ease.
Hello, I know it's been a while since you've posted this video. I actually watched all your usps videos and thought they were great, super informative, and encouraging, unlike other usps videos. I have 3 questions I hope you wouldn't mind answering when you can. 1) Are you still working for USPS? If not, why? 2) From the time of your orientation to the time you received your own route, did you get any pay raises? 3) What was your starting pay as a CCA, your most recent pay, or last hourly pay amount? Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences! It is so appreciated, I'm currently waiting for my fingerprints to clear before I can start training as a CCA in the Los Angeles area. I'm really excited bc I have no children or husband and loads of free time
1. Yes, I still work there! 2. I think I received 1 cost of living raise. Not sure how much it was and those don’t happen regularly 3. Unfortunately, I’m not totally sure on either. I think I started off around $19 an hour and I think I make like $25 an hour now
I absolutely love your videos, man! They have been super helpful on helping me figure out what I want to do in life. I really hope you're willing to provide another update soon
I remember watching these videos as I was going through the same processes a few months after he posted. I'm a regular now with my own route. Thanks for the vids they really helped me prepare.
These videos are honestly the best. They helped me get through my probation. Now I can’t wait to become a regular. It’s hard at first but now it’s easy and I love it!
Richard Richardson I’m sure a lot of people would love to hear a longtime update from you as a regular, and even if covid 19 has affected regulars. I’m curious in general what time you clock in/ click out as a cca- vs established regular. Also you mention you make less as regular because of less overtime. Can you be a regular and still request to work overtime and get 10-12 hrs as a regular? I’m coming from a nigh shift job so I don’t care how many long hours I work as long as I get to sleep at night lol
Wondered if anyone could help me with a question.I applied for a CCA position in a town near me (30 miles)as it was the only position available at the time. Then a position for an Assistant Rual Carrier in my home town was posted the next day.....so I posted for that. It's only been a couple of days ...the CCA position is still in the Application entry phase...but I did get a request to start ARC offer process(background check). Should I start the ARC process even though its only weekends and holidays? I would much rather have full time hours like a CCA...... Could the ARC turn into a regular Rual Route position if I take it will I just be Weekends and part time?Or can you request to work more hours....I'm in a decent size suburb town..... I work a full time job right now..... Thanks for any assistance
Excellent news, Richard. Congratulations. It's a great feeling to have your own route and you'll do well on it. I've been on my route in Durham NH 03824 for over 9 years and I've gotten to know many of my postal route customers and watching their kids grow up and many other changes in the time I've been doing the route. You can stay on the route as long as you continue to work for the postal service, but do bid on other routes if you want or need a change. You do look quite professional in your carrier uniform.
@@richardrichardson7972, fantastic. You can stay on that route for your entire postal career. Keep your edit book up to date and make changes when necessary. Be consistent with your time in delivering the route. If you qualify for a special route inspection, keep good records and ask for one.
I want to know what is the correct way to clock in for a route. Is it like Press Bt, Mv street, Mv office, last 3 numbers of the zip code than the route number then swipe the card? Also how about when you came back from the route to clock out

@Jordan B I can finish the story. I worked there from January 2020 to June 2020. I quit to go full time in wedding filmmaking and I’m doing extremely well these days. As for the post office, I hated it. I worked 12 hours a day sweating my ass off or freezing my ass off walking north of 15 miles a day. No days off. I hated it.
Thank you for posting all the videos. I am currently on the prehire list for some offices in my area, just wondering if you have any tips for footwear, uniforms, and casing mail. Thanks again Richard.

I applied two days ago for Holiday CCA and I have interview on Halloween. Any advice? Also I have a full time job would it be smart to quit my full time job and do this? I’m hoping it’s not temporary.
Tevin Collier don’t quit your full time job. See if you like it first. I am currently a CCA in California. I worked for Fedex thought this job was going to be easy it is but I don’t like the schedule at all. I miss my family time. Holidays are coming up I’m going to be missing all those. I personally don’t like it it’s a lot of stress. First 2 weeks of orientation I had to wake up at 330 am and drive 1 hour away. My list to become regular is very long 2 1/2 pages. If you don’t have family or anything going on in your life this is the right job. Unfortunately for me I wished I had never quit fedex. But learning this taught me to go back to school.
Jessica Beltran I do have a family I have 3 kids and a wife. What part of California do you work at? I’m located in So Cal. I applied for Van Nuys office.
Tevin Collier I worked for Ontario. I quit. The OJI training was good once I went out on the street alone it was hard. I was lost. I was only supposed to take 1-2 hours it ended up taking me 6 hours. The ads are super hard and heavy. The bag they gave me weighed more than 35 pounds. It was like 50. Plus everything I have to carry in my hands. I never had to stretch my fingers so much. I could hardly walk it was painful to walk. Tbh it just wasn’t worth it for me. Then they had me drive all over to deliver the packages. It looked easy with my trainer because she was on the same route. No this was different. I would rather work back at fedex then work here.
Tevin Collier I was told the turn over rate is very high because people don’t last. Now I would understand why. I just wished they would train me more on the street with different people so I would know how it actually is not just with one. Maybe that would have change my mind. But like how they had me no. Try it out maybe for you you’ll like. But I wished I didn’t quit fedex. Now I’m jobless. But my family is helping me out while I find a new job.
Jessica Beltran I’m gonna give it a shot hopefully my experience will be better. I just applied for a CCA position in Van Nuys and took the 474 exam and got a 99 percent. Do you think I will get an interview?
Appreciate the videos. Working as a package hander currently was offered a CCA job at USPS. Although I would prefer UPS long term, I'm considering taking it because I cant afford to work part time much longer. I've been told I'll be driving soon for UPS for a long time now and am not sure what to do. Take the USPS now, or continue working at UPS, HOPING something will come my way. From what I've heard its also really hard to make full time as a UPS driver and they will disqualify you for just about anything during probation period...
I am a CCA, and will soon become a regular. My biggest mistake was leaving UPS. I was also a package handler for 14 months. 6 months after I left my buddy became a driver.
I just excepted the position today and ready to get started!!! I was a casual many years ago and I enjoyed it and thankful to go another round as a cca, love your videos and congrats on your new route!!!

Hi Richard. I just applied for CCA and RCA, scored a 97 on the virtual test, and am prior military. I think I have a good shot. Given the choice, should I take the CCA or RCA position? Thanks!
Dominance 1. You have a great chance, you’ll definitely get hired 2. I would personally choose CCA. It’s typically a lot quicker path to make career. But the rural side is better as far as delivery goes because Rural routes have no walking unless you’re doing an apartment complex. There’s no actual walking on the rural side.
@@richardrichardson7972 Thanks for your reply! I will definitely try for the CCA as that was the first one I applied for, so that will be the one I get the first chance at. So you really think I will definitely get hired? I sure hope so! Any advice on how to increase my chances? Thanks!
@@richardrichardson7972 I was offered the RCA position today! I applied for both, but was offered this first, so I think I will go ahead and take it. Thanks for your help Richard! I love your videos and hope you can still pump one out sometimes!

@@gadguard For sure! It’s not that bad yet. Been doing a route then a quarter or half of another route usually. Once you start to get the hang of how streets and house numbers work it gets a bit easier.
@@inheavenandinhell Nice I've been interested in this for some reason. I'm a gas station manager and just living vicariously. Glad you're getting it my man.
@@gadguard Honestly if you already have something that pays $20/Hr or more and has a decent retirement plan I’d say stay away from it. I didn’t have any of those things so that’s why I’m working this job. Being a CCA sucks, but once you become regular that’s when things get really good and you’re set up for the future.
@@inheavenandinhellI guess I put in my time then for my job. Base is 17.50 Monday through Saturday. Before Covid it was 18 o/t per 2 weeks but now it's only 8. Free vision: dental, 401k decent health care. Only perk of the job is shitty customers and crack heads. I'm still impressed a good amount of people can't pump gas.
Can you do a video about what made you decide to work with USPS? Also, what kinds of research you did before and during the hiring process? Congratz on regular status!
You are to cute 😙 I also am single and have no kids. But, I don't want to work all day everyday. My job now I'm working a lot of hours and more days. I'm tired and your video helped me decided not to take the job as a cca. So, thank you for that 🙏
Hello. I just got an email with a conditional offer for cca . You still working there? Last month i got another offer but this was for RCA I accepted that one and did background check but they haven’t send me nothing yet. I don’t know which one to go.
Congratulations on becoming a regular! If you can look into getting your CDL..I’m sure transportation is always hiring...I’m currently work in LA and our transportation is always hiring! Congrats again!
Richard Richardson you should! Depending on your location you might start off as a PTF but you will make money and you will be a career employee so you will keep the benefits!
Hey Richard, I've done the drug test, background check, accepted then job and I just finished the criminal check. Is there a medical exam that goes along with this and do you remember if it was time sensitive the way everything else has been? I'm scheduled to go offshore and I'm scared that the 3 day time limit will mess me up.
Thanks for keeping us updated through your progress. I'm less than 2 weeks from my 90 working days as a CCA and I'm nervous. Haha but I was told by my post Master recently that I'm going to make it, but until that day passes I'm going to be nervous. I'm looking at 2-3 years before regular ugh... You got lucky.
they are goihng to cut a route in my office and all the converted folks are 15 years younger than me heheh. small offices can be good some can be bad lol. Going to have to do a stephen king thing and rewind my years haha
I have been doing the warehouse and residential mixed route in the past two day and I feel like I can’t take it anymore. I don’t know what they order but all the package are over 30lbs and lots of pick up request and I usually pick up 20 huge bags of small parcels. I am a women I feel like all the physical work is overwhelming. Plus inside of LLV is hot, I rather walk under the sun then staying in that oven box.
I have my interview next week so hopefully I will be selected! Could you explain the process of delivery once your on the street with everything case? I assume I can just Google maps the first address of each loop but then what about packages?
Life is a Garden congratulations on passing the test, your score it’s very good, you will be hired for sure! The next thing is, you will receive a email for interview, if you are invited for interview, that means you are hired. After the interview you will receive another email, with official job offer. You will be asked for allot of personal information, so they can do background check on you. After that you will receive email, or phone call with orientation day. It’s a very hard job, but Good Luck !!!
YOUNG ELA Congratulations, after the interview you will receive a email with official job offer, respond to the email ASAP, and you will get another email, about your Background, as soon as everything clear, you will get email for orientation!!! On the interview and orientation day, they may try to scare you guys, they may show you a horrible videos about dogs and stuff like that. If you really want the job, don’t listen to them. But let me tell you, it’s secure job, it pays good, but it’s HORRIBLE. They treat you like a shead!!! Good luck to you!!! 🍀🍀🍀
@@dachkovalkov6725 I am hearing that the testing has changed, but I'm not finding much info on this. I took the Virtual Entry Assessment, and scored a 94, and was called in for a interview. Is there still a proctored test after this, or is that not the case anymore? thanks

So how have your paychecks been since converting? I have heard you actually make less as a new regular because loss of overtime/higher insurance/retirement.
Ryan Schofield I make WAY less as a regular. I was making $1,000 a week after taxes as a CCA, now I’m making about $600 per week after taxes as a regular
Yeah, but you were working 12 hour days 7 days a week for that pay with no benefits like you have now. You get health insurance, retirement benefits, a pension, vacation time, sick leave, an 8 hour day, 2 days off, no Sunday Amazon to deliver, regular step wage increases every 46 weeks, COLA pay increases, general wage increases.

Actually, now I got offered the CCA Position so I took that instead!
Good jobs buddy
thanks!
Got my interview next Friday... Hopefully it moves as smooth as yours did... Long Island NY
best of luck to you!
Been a while. Will you do a video on being a Regular and it’s plus & minuses?

How many years did it take for you to become a Career post man?
Dacia roll it’s different in every station, if you are lucky it can take only 6 months, or 3.5 years, depends where you work!
I just became regular last year. I just got my route 2 months ago. Here in phx az
Once you become regular they assign you 2 days off a week?
Did my first shadow day today, I hope ill look back at this comment in a year and get to say I made regular just like you. Congrats, man! Thanks for the videos.
Still hanging in there?
So, thank you for that 🙏
What’s your schedule like?
Hello. I just got an email with a conditional offer for cca . You still working there? Last month i got another offer but this was for RCA I accepted that one and did background check but they haven’t send me nothing yet. I don’t know which one to go.
Rural side usually takes a lot longer to make career. but it depends
Congratulations on becoming a regular! If you can look into getting your CDL..I’m sure transportation is always hiring...I’m currently work in LA and our transportation is always hiring! Congrats again!
Adrian Lopez thanks a lot man. That’s actually something I’ve thought about. I’d love to be a truck driver.
Richard Richardson you should! Depending on your location you might start off as a PTF but you will make money and you will be a career employee so you will keep the benefits!
so how is work going with the current COVID-19 situation? Hope you are safe and well.
Enjoyed your videos. How are you looking it after a year?
Hey Richard, I've done the drug test, background check, accepted then job and I just finished the criminal check. Is there a medical exam that goes along with this and do you remember if it was time sensitive the way everything else has been? I'm scheduled to go offshore and I'm scared that the 3 day time limit will mess me up.
Waiting for the 204b video 😂
Thanks for keeping us updated through your progress. I'm less than 2 weeks from my 90 working days as a CCA and I'm nervous. Haha but I was told by my post Master recently that I'm going to make it, but until that day passes I'm going to be nervous. I'm looking at 2-3 years before regular ugh... You got lucky.
they are goihng to cut a route in my office and all the converted folks are 15 years younger than me heheh. small offices can be good some can be bad lol. Going to have to do a stephen king thing and rewind my years haha
Great job Congrats man tomorrow is my last day of OJT then next week I start in my home office on my own
thank you! good luck in your postal career!
Give us an update ! Haha
Quick question did you go to an orientation before you became regular?
You will have orientation prior to becoming a Cca. Becoming Regular is based on Senority.
@@tthomas3427 I know but some of my co workers that became regular had orientation but others didn't
I have my interview next week so hopefully I will be selected! Could you explain the process of delivery once your on the street with everything case? I assume I can just Google maps the first address of each loop but then what about packages?
Press f for respects of Richard

How long did you work as a CCA before you got your own route
Are u going to do anymore updates?
Congratulations!!! I just took the 474 assessment test, scored an 83 just not sure what the next part of the process will be...🤔 Thank you!!
@@dachkovalkov6725 thank you for the encouragement 💖
@@dachkovalkov6725 I got a email for a interview on the 26 of this month middletown ny
Is there still a proctored test after this, or is that not the case anymore? thanks
Congrats. I started working for USPS last week has a PSE. I got offer CCA but decided follow the PSE.
I regret to inform you that Richard passed away in October of 2021 from an overdose. He was one of my closest friends. He loved his job and he had a bright future 😔. I’ll miss you bro ❤️

Are you still there Richard?
KAKASHI yes, I am!
@@richardrichardson7972 Noice, so have you gotten use to your schedule as a regular? Has this pandemic made it more difficult?
How easy to transfer to another city/state?
Justin Uptmor it’s very difficult unless you’re a CCA. But it’s easy if you’re pretty open to transfer anywhere (speaking if you’re a regular). But if you’re specific as to where you want to transfer, it’s very tough and crap shoot.
Good job, I start on the fourth rca. Looks like there no info on rcas only ccas on RUclips. Your videos do help though to get perspective.
I found a group on facebook called Rural Carrier Associate Support Group.
what kind of GTI do you have?
Hey Rich congrats on the route. I’m a city carrier from Jersey bout 20 minutes from NYC. I use to prefer business also but once you do residential delivers you get know all the dogs and people and watch kids grow up pretty special job.what u described you like is the non ODL list ask ur shop steward bout tht.
Do this Guy still work for the post office?!
Yes I do
@richardrichardson7972 you should do an quick update video. There are trolls giving fake ones
I’m the middle of the hiring process and I found your videos interesting, a big help!! Are you still employed with the usps? And what made u decide to work there? I want to go in with the mind set, and a lot of times I feel very nervous. 😕
Cherrelle yes, I still work for the USPS. The pay is what made me decide to work there or I should say start the application process to work there.
@@blue99saturn Thanks for the reply, I get that. It will just be a hit to the pocket book at first but don't get me wrong I am still looking forward to converting.
Thanks for the info! I have done the background check and drug test. Waiting to start training to be a RCA! I have a mini van to get started in.
good luck to you!
I just took my drug test for cca, hopefully get the job.
