IN THIS VIDEO
I go over the features of the Melnor XT Minimax Turbo Oscillating Sprinkler.
• What it is made of, how it fits together and what's best/worst about it
• The adjustable parts and how they work - this sprinkler has a couple of unique options
• Situations in which it works well and conditions in which it's not as good - these are things to think about when choosing the best sprinkler for your yard
• Some limitations that all oscillating sprinklers have
FEATURED IN THE VIDEO
The Melnor XT MiniTurbo Oscillating Sprinkler is available in two formats:
• With a sled base (what we tested): geni.us/sAKjlqZ [Amazon]
• With a step spike: geni.us/OF2ia [Amazon]

Bought one with a plastic stake the other day at lowes for $20. It's great for my backyard. I have a 30' x 11' rectangular patch of lawn and it's perfect because I can set it into the ground in the middle and just need a 20 minute run time to cover the entire area. I would definitely recommend setting to full flow volume and just adjusting your spigot so that it doesnt shoot up too high to reduce evaporation. You will get potentially more saturation at a lower run time for something that shoots water closer to the ground. So that's why I set mine for an extra 5 minutes. As far as even coverage, it's pretty good as long as you dont have high wind.
Thanks for sharing your experience with the MiniMax!
Awesome video! Thanks for your review.
Very good presentation of a very versatile sprinkler. Great for vegetable and flower gardens too! I'm glad I found you.
I just got one of these, it’s a Green Thumb, but exactly the same.. So helpful!! THANK YOU! 😊
You were answering my questions as I thought them. Thanks for a very informative review.
That was an amazingly helpful review! Thank you for doing that. My previous Melnor didn't last too long; the plastic gets soft in the sun and the sprinkler's performance degrades faster than I thought it should. Our lawn is on a slope, so the spike base will be helpful.
I agree! I also am on well water. That bit of information was extremely useful for my decision on this product.
I LOVE this sprinkler. It can be adjusted every way possible. The only downside is that it's a little tricky to attach to a hose. I went out and bought a second one for my front yard.
You can use a quick connect, instead of screwing it in every time, and you can use a cut off on the end of the hose you screw into the sprinkler so that you can cut it off from there and not the water faucet.
This is the best sprinkler I've ever used. I have the one with the spike base which is sometimes difficult to get in the ground, such as in the middle of a draught when the dirt is hard. If you bang on it from the top or lean on it hard to push down it can break, so at times I have to prop it up with a couple of small pieces of concrete. If the base is not solid the pattern you set up will migrate from the water pressure running through. I'm going to look for the one shown in the video with the platform base. This is the best sprinkler I have seen and the pattern is quite customizable, further adjusted right at the unit by varying the incoming water pressure.
I use -->brass
Oh yes very helpful because I wanted the one with just the spike but now I know I can just attach a spike to it .
Nice job. Helpful - I'll buy one.
Excellent review! 👏👏👏 Thank you SO much!!! 😀
You're very welcome!
Yes, you can daisy chain them, but you can’t necessarily get full power out of more than one unless you have the water pressure to do that.
Thanks for the good review!
Didn't really show it working and what pattern it covers.
lol i know. thats what i came for. >.
thanks for saving my time
Talkin, talkin... No showing how it works
She says in the video that it is a rectangular pattern. I have two. You can adjust it to a wide rectangle, or a very narrow rectangle.
Bought two so far and although I enjoy the design features and the versatility intended...the head gets stuck often and you have to mess with it often to get it to work again. Not sure that I like mine after its performance has degraded so quickly.
Yes! I’m having the same problem and it is maddening! I have an unusual yard and this sprinkler configured to every area of my yard so it’s very frustrating. I spray it with lubricant, but it works for a few minutes and then quits again.
I like this one!
Me too! It's my personal favorite because it's so adjustable and easy to use.
You can also avoid evaporation and wind if you irrigate early in the morning before the sun comes up
Excellent review.
Thank you :-)
Great review, thanks!
Thanks for the video. When I bought it, it had all the features that I wanted but I was thinking that it would rotate automatically. I couldn't figure out how the tiny "X" would rotate it. Watching the video answered my question; the user can rotate it to fit their watering scheme.
I just picked this up from Menards for 22 bucks and so far we really like it (one day of use). My only problem is it leaks from the connector (and yes the gasket is there in place). I want to exchange for another unit and hopefully mine was just wacky.
This isnt a slam against this sprinkler - I actually like it - but dont leave it in your yard in really cold weather or it will be ruined. An unexpected spring snow ruined my Melnor XT.
Thanks for the excellent review!
There are so many products like this where you don't know what you're getting based on the advertising or packaging alone.
It would be nice......... to actually, SEE it working.
what about coverage and area shape it makes? Would be nice to know/test if the water is sprayed evenly on the lawn.
The shape depends on how you adjust it - anywhere from square to rectangular (like any oscillating sprinkler...). In our testing, this sprinkler was very consistent in the amount of water that reached 5, 10, 15, and 25 feet away. My main concern is how durable is it, how well is it performing today after 4 years and is it showing signs of wear?
You sure can’t drop it! The head will break off. Been there done that. Other than that, very durable, if you take care of it, keep it out of the sun, unless you’re watering, store it in the garage in the winter, making sure it is completely drained.
The reason there is no shutoff is because even to shut it off you will get wet if you don't shut it off at the spigot first! The reason the screen is where they put it is a cost cutting measure, if they put the screen in the base there would be one for the sled and one for the spike, this way you can switch from one to the other and the screen will always be on the head!
I love mine, so much so when I brought the 1st one, I quickly brought another one last year. This year there is a lot of water in the base, what should I do? thanks
There's water in your water sprinkler? Weird.
@@serious.business I guess what I am saying is that there was going everywhere like it was not sealed. I twisted it off, inspected it, and put it back on. There didn't appear to b anything wrong, but it was still leaking water from the base. No big, I brought another and 1 for my mother. Thanks
There's an additional screw in part not shown, and would like to know what or where it is you are suppose to use it at ..
If the Melnor XT Mini-Turbo ($45) is the same as the Melnor 65003-AMZ MiniMax, ($19), then buy the cheaper and a spike and transfer the head. I'm about to drop the $65 to find out unless someone already knows.
It's not a strainer or a sieve. It's a filter. If you lose it, it is not a big deal.
Only partially helpful. I want to see a sprinkler in action on a lawn with the various settings possible - any sprinkler I'm watching a review of. This is particularly true of a sprinkler with a lot of settings. In this case, it's essential that I see how this handles a long narrow space, since I have very narrow side yards (12-15' to the lot lines) and large front and back yards on a lakefront yard. Unfortunately, failure to demonstrate a sprinkler in operation is all too common on these YT reviews, not just yours.
If you drop it, you can break the head off of it, so we be very careful. Been there, done that.
Imagine if car and driver reviewed a car and never really drove it. That's what this review was. I wanted to see it work, anyone can figure out how it works.
I wouldn't want to strip metal threads either :)
Last talking Head more sprinkler action
Video is of her speaking. Would have preferred to see product in action. Horrible
Show it in action instead of just talking about it.
Jijadelfokiu
thanks for not showing it working
Too much talking
