- Driver is a Los Angeles wheelman for hire, stunt driving for movie productions by day and steering getaway vehicles for armed heists by night. Though a loner by nature, Driver can't help falling in love with his beautiful neighbor Irene, a vulnerable young mother dragged into a dangerous underworld by the return of her ex-convict husband Standard. After a heist intended to pay off Standard's protection money spins unpredictably out of control, Driver finds himself driving defense for the girl he loves, tailgated by a syndicate of deadly serious criminals. But when he realizes that the gangsters are after more than the bag of cash in his trunk - that they're coming straight for Irene and her son - Driver is forced to shift gears and go on offense.

Ryan's character is so deep, it would have been fascinating to know his past and background, but that air of mystery with a longing to belong to something made this film even better
The book the movie is based on goes a bit deeper into Driver's past, I'd highly reccomend you check it out. It's called Drive by James Sallis, and there's another one after that called Driven. Both are classic day readers, and both have shaped the way I look at life.

I love this movie. First movie I saw twice in the movie theaters back in 2011.
In college, i wrote an essay about the book in one class, and an essay about the movie in another class. I got A’s on both.
I own the Blu-Ray, the book, and the OST. This movie was awesome and still holds ups today. I hope future generations realize what a classic it is.

Worst trailer I've seen for such gem movie. Does not represent the retro feel of the masterpiece, and shows so much spoiler that can ruin the experience of watching it. Stepping outside of Hollywood conformism box, Drive is simply amazing.

This movie singlehandedly made me fall in love with both sleeper cars as well as retrowave for over a decade now. This trailer does no justice to this masterpiece of a movie and the actual effort put in by the actors.

I’ll tell ya, it wasn’t until I watched this film I realised that I’m a fan of Ryan Gosling. Brilliant actor, and the cinematography and writing in this is truly amazing

For those that like Drive and 80s throwback films in general, I highly recommend "It Follows." The soundtrack is 100% golden age 80s horror synth, and so are the visuals and general style. I'd call it an aesthetic sister-film to Drive.
Also 'The Guest'. Same crazy synth. But yeah It Follows is incredibly tense.

It Follows had a decent vibe, but there were too many plot holes other problems that I have no interest in watching it again.
I'm so glad Drive isn't an action movie (like this trailer paints it out to be) in reality it's one of the greatest films of all time

This really is the last best movie i have seen recently, not much dialogue, mostly facial expressions which really gives you a feel of how the character feels. The music selection went soo incredibly well with the all the scenes. I still listen to Kavinsky “Nightcall” when im driving late at night. Amazing movie 20 out of 10

Cracks me up that people say this movie sucks just because it doesn't hand them entertainment on a silver platter like all the action movies now a days. This movie is a work of art and should be appreciated as such. Don't get mad just because the main character doesn't have a thousand witty lines and comments through the entire movie. The simplicity of this film is what makes it so gorgeous.

+DOG In fact, "Fast and Furious" are car movies only for those people who were born recently and/or enjoy more modern cars. "Two-Lane Blacktop" and "Mad Max" are car movies, while "Fast and Furious" is a carsploitation. Not that it's bad, though, because exploitation movies tend to turn into masterpieces, from time to time and for that reason alone they should be made.

I'm not even a fan of violent movies but this one was really really amazing. The whole atmosphere of it all was on a different level than any other movie. Really great work.

The first time when I watched this I thought to myself "Hey this feels just like hotline miami" and I learned from the comments that this movie did inspire the game, which makes me love the movie more
Finally watched it and what a masterpiece! The scenes really were well put together and the cinematic and emotion in each scene was beautifull
Loved seeing him smile with with Irene and seeing the joy in his face really hit me
Even the action scenes were brutal and really had alot of impact in the movie great acting

Brilliant acting, cinematography and overall music. Gosling was awesome, the music and Albert Brooks first non-comedic role in a movie is amazing. This is my favorite movie and it introduced me to the Retrosynth/Vaporwave subculture. After watching this film drive the entire night in neo lighting with a playlist like this film

Unless you're really into films or cinematography, I don't think you'll truly be able to appreciate the magnificence of Drive. I can understand how some people might say this is a bad movie and it's their opinion of course, that's no problem, but it really is a work of art. It's a nice change from most other action/thrillers.

This movie was incredible. Rich, brooding and intense with a graphic streak. The soundtrack was perfect. My favourite film this year by a country mile.
Ryan is great in this, nothing beats his place beyond pines acting though, but this is up there.

I was totally excpecting a different list.
Project X and Pain & Gain. Nothing wrong with those movies, but everytime I bring them up these "real nerd critics hate on those movies.
Cool to see somebody with a more relax style in movies, although personally I think there were far better movies than those in 2012/2013.
I loved Nightcrawler, the whole setting and feeling in the movie gave me goosebumbs. nightcrawler is much more than just a guy with a camera, the whole manipulation in the movie from Jake was excellent, but ofcourse, I can see why not everybody like it, hell, even my parents did not like it
I have no interest in convincing anyone that this movie is worth seeing. I just know that for me, it was amazing. I was blown away by the depth and dark beauty of it all. The actors were spot on. The retro eighties stylization wove together a tapestry of strong emotions and mood. This film had heart where you wouldn't expect to find it.

It's almost like Nik Winding Refn made the soundtrack first and then made the accompanying movie.

I'm so glad I read the comments before seeing this "trailer". Cause then I would've missed out on this gem of a idek what to say. Just a amazing yet simple story of how one bad decision could change everything. Beautifully shot and beautifully acted. Such a amazing movie.

Although it was short, the character development of a simple silent man to a stoic and head strong individual enveloping at the end made me feel for him. The setting and scenes felt like a painting. 10/10

It's funny to think that just three years ago (actually, it's four now, isn't it? fuckin' a), Oscar Isaac was playing a role like this one, and now he's a big-time leading man who's about to be in the new Star Wars movie. That's an incredible ascension, and he deserves it.

An absolute masterpiece. This film is one of the few movies where you know somehow it's going to be great just of by the beginning sequence. For - a similar movie frosting the same atmosphere I recommend Nightcrawler (2014)

I saw this movie in 2011, it was awesome, everything from the music, to the scenes, and the colors; it was just perfect. I like driving cars so that was what took me into the theater; after seeing the movie I came out a changed man.

Honestly I think this is a great movie. It contains one of my (personal) favourite actors like Bryan cranston which played in BB. It also contains a composer of my fav band called daft punk. Everything together makes this such a masterpiece.

I see mentions of "Best Movies" below....has NOBODY seen 'Once Were Warriors'?? This is ONE movie that has stayed with me for years and years...
I watched this movie after watching The place beyond the pines, and both characters are very similar. Including an iconic jacket, they both look after a child and mother. Both great drivers, one a car the other a bike, and they are good at escaping. One smokes a lot, the other keeps a toothpick probably useed to smoke.
