WE CAN FIX THE HEMI !!! : DRAG WEEK 2022 DAY 2-3

- Well, we did a good job of wounding the 535ci Mopar Hemi V8 in my 1955 Chevy Bel Air. However, after attempting to swap David Freiburger's Hemi Gremmie engine into the car and subsequently failing to complete the swap, I started to stare at my engine more and asked myself the question: Can we fix it? The answer is yes, but only if we figure out how bad the damage is and get the parts to fix it ASAP. Since Tony Angelo from the Stay Tuned RUclips channel and I do not quit, we are continuing on. We are lucky to have a video crew who's as nuts as we are and so we will forgo sleep if we need to but we are going to try and make my car run again if we can before the event is over.
This video and every other video from my trip to Hot Rod Drag Week 2022 was made possible by the good people at Wire Care. Every inch of wiring and thermal protection found on Blasphemi came directly from www.wirecare.com

The old saying is you never know who your true friends are until you’re down. It warms my heart to see your “buds” jump in to help you out! MAD respect!!👏👍🙌🏾🤜
that’s love ❤
@@Russell_and_Rosko I know it does exist still
🙂
That's the group mentality of drag week. Nobody wants to a dead car if they can avoid it. Competition yes, but it's a club/family vibe that really proves that people care a lot in this community
Just keep throwing money instead of thinking for five minutes, males sense right? 🤔
The perseverance is inspirational.
As are the lack of foresight that causes thousands and thousands in damage lol
The amount of circle jerk jaw-flapping and discovery before they pulled the pistons is what I don’t understand.
@@DisgustedGenXr and what I don't understand is how on earth are they still having fuel problems when Finnegan has had this exact issue for years . No issue with the motor , just not enough fuel in the tank .Considering the amount of money that goes into race cars how in all of the hells is that fuel cell not topped off after every pull !
@@randomusernumber1 He has a programmable engine management system, he could put a big red warning light somewhere that tells him "You don't got enough gas for a pass without killing your engine!" Or even just flat out kill the engine if he puts it in gear without the required amount.
@@DisgustedGenXr I’m so glad all you guys are perfect and have never made a mistake in your lives…….
Man I missed Tony. He brings such a character to these events.
You know he does have his own RUclips channel
Stay tuned Tony's channels is called
@@sgan937 Yes, that's ME!
@@StayTunedTA nice keep up the good content.
ya like when he smoked the low oil slipping tranny by running it full length down the track GG Tony!! did you think it was a cvt?
My favorite part of this series: Watching you two and your team troubleshooting and devising a plan to repair. You can visible watch by the expression on your faces, the vast knowledge and experience at work!
The fact after all the struggling, you are positive and got guts to continue is something inspirational
I was saying that last video, this guy has been through so much with this car and he never bats an eye. I'm sure theres alot of footage edited out but Mike seems like a pretty calm and collected kinda guy.
no pain, no gain. these videos pay the bills. 👍
Are you serious by now you could have bought a $400,000 Chevy Steve Morris engine and one drag week every year. Honestly you could have bought a 305 and it would outlasted the Dodge performance Hemi engine. I own a Dodge I'm not sure why they even put a hood on them vehicles I guess just to hide the disaster it's like closing the coffin
Sorry sometimes wonder what to trust more a Hemi or Joe Biden. I'm sure once more reliable than other and I will hear comments from both of the confused loving environment. Where should the best man I got a small Journal 327, that would be great in a gasser and I would trust you could push it to the Limit red lines probably 8,500
The amount of hemis he's blown up in blasphemi is insane. Closer to 10 than 5?
Glad to See Tony Helping Again this Year !
so impressed with the never giving up. this is the spirit of drag week.
Love this comradery between Tony and Fin. Tony treats Fins car like it was his own. A true friend Tony is, just a solid dude overall.
Yes, the saga continues! Go Mike Go!
You guys are awesome. I really love the fact that things can be so adverse, Yet, THERE IS NO FOWL LANGUAGE !!! At least on camera. Thanks for being above all of that.
Last video I had a tears in my eyes. The woes of Hot Rodding. Clicked this video still watery, but now my face has the smile. Soldier on guys......God I love that car....
I knew blasphemi was nice but the motor in that thing is real serious. I saw the piston and rod when finnegan was holding it. The piston is a work of art. Lol beautiful build!
Man, you dodged a big one there! I know it’s not Roadkill but maybe a preflight check list is in order for each run to protect the investment. Just a thought. Good luck! Oh, good seeing you Tony!!!
Weird to think they didnt do that during the 2019 drag week they had one
Yeah, we have one, it's not like we forgot about fuel, we were just getting started and someone said it had been filled so we wanted to get a run in, and with having to mess with a bunch of other stuff to get on track, I assumed it was in there. Dumb mistake either way.
@@StayTunedTA well at least there isn’t major engine damage. But it’s lucky! With that heat to do that to the piston rings I would have guessed the piston would have been holed. And I hope you get some runs in so you can get the car right!!
Be safe, but have fun! I sure enjoy watching everything you do Finnegan!!!
@@StayTunedTA "someone"
why are your crew stupid Toni not filling up fuel with E85 every pass. , avoid tony
Lucky doesn't begin to describe it, o Brand new motor, cooks ONLY the rings out instantly, on the first pass, because he was low on fuel, rebuild in the parking lot again(rebuilding a hemi in the parking lot didn't need to be a tradition, but it is)....
And the next video it will be alive again. You guys are the reason I got into cars. Only been following Finnegan since the street truck days(o.g.bagged c/10). Best of luck dudes!
WOW!
Cool to watch in real time
NEVER QUIT !
Keep it up! You are inspiring a lot of folks out of very tough problems!
How you guys can be so calm when an engine like this has issues is beyond me...its either a surplus of confidence or a surplus of cash.
Dont get me wrong, I wouldn't be crying in the parking lot but I would be kicking myself pretty hard...
Either way, you guys are a duo to look up to. These funnily enough are the vids I enjoy watching the most.
Dude I’m so happy you didn’t kill the new hemi. I’ve been waiting to see blasphemy tear up the strip again since you won in 2019. It’s one of my favorite cars of yours.
Mixed emotions. I feel so bad for you that you're out of competition, but cheering you on to get it rebuilt.
Great news, I think on the video of that pass, it wasn’t lean for very long, looked to be not far from the stripe, hence the little damage. Love seeing you guys back together. A-Team….
i woke up just in time to see this new. my morning didnt even start yet and its a good morning
Same here the last video I seen last nite was him calling it made my day😎 roadkill spirit
Think its awesome to see tony with you nice to have that tight circle of guys you can count on,keep it up.
Getting out of that situation with annealed rings and no damage to the ring lands is phenomenally lucky. The speed part gods are watching over you, Mike!
I love it... "The good new is... I can't find anything wrong... The bad news is... I can't find what's wrong..."
Hello Mike and Tony with two great mechanics like you and Tony Blasphemi will live again. Wishing you both all the best Take Care Guys
Mike, your patience and commitment knows no bounds!
Man, I learnt so much in just one video. That's what happens when you have 2 amazing people in one video
Don't think ive ever seen someone so happy to rebuild their engine, can't wait for the next episode much love from New Zealand
The team deserves a beverage 🍻and food❤ frikin hard luck again 👏 thanks a bunch...
Luck? No, poor planning and operator error caused this. Luck had nothing to do with it. Lessons learned I'm sure. Super stoked the Hemi is not destroyed though as that's one sweet block. Wish I had it instead of my cast iron elephant.
🤷♂️😂🤣😂 time and time again guys smoke fuel pumps especially after sitting for 2/3 years 😂 definitely bad planning but dam he's doing mototrend +family and YT like ffs am I surprised nope not at all.... BUT ITS DRAG WEEK
Nice that Mike took the exit signs to hart and said nope we are turning around.
When the recovery from a disaster generates more of an intense interest by thousands than a successful run, that indicates the depth of admiration of Mike and Tony's fan base.
Mike never fails to get after it!
Good job Mike and good luck !
I just wanna see blasphemi doing gasser wheel stands and a full rip down the track again.
I just wanna see it in my garage in uk 🇬🇧 😂
…against the Ford-powered 55!
Tony is just the man! He is just so smart and down to get dirty! Legend!
I need friends like this! Tony is a real one for sure!! Good seeing you and your buds gettin it done! 🙏 no more issues for you guys! 😃🤙
"Now me and the mad scientist have to rip apart the block and replace the piston rings you fried"
That final shot of the ramp truck hauling everything made me think it would look really sweet with a string of lights down the side like an 18 wheeler
YOU JUST CONFIRMED FOR ME HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO HAVE YOUR PISTON RINGS GAPPED PROPERLY. WITHOUT IT, YOU DO NOT HAVE COMPRESSION OR A MOTOR!!!! THIS IS SO IMPORTANT WHEN REBUILDING ANY ENGINE!!! THANKS FOR LETTING ME SHARE!!!!
Never give up………where there’s a will there’s a way……love the Chanel…….GOOD LUCK
Now me and the mad scientist have to tear down the block, and replace the piston rings you fried!
Everyone needs a friend like Tony
Im so glad you can get it fixed and make a few passes. Drive safe.
Hell ya! I'm so glad to see you guys not giving up!
Man you guys blew up the engine in the absolute best way possible. Fried the rings, but other than that the engine has a clean bill of health. Incredibly lucky.
good work, gentlemen. good things come to those who put in the work and y’all have that in spades. also, i don’t think any of us viewers would be upset if you included more rolling shots of the floating center caps on the ramp truck. 😉
I will still never forget watching tony have to benchpress the transmission so that you guys could get going again. Love the perseverance and I hope one day to make it to zip tie drags just to meet yall
I'm in the middle of my own build on a 68 firebird and its a ton of work. Thanks for the inspiration!
Great that the engine is not a write off. This daily series is really great !! Greetings from Prague, Czech Republic
Remember the old days when all you needed was forged pistons, SS valves, cam, and springs.
Going fast and not having as much trouble as all the good stuff brings on.
Being young, broke, and not knowing better sure was fun.
What luck, it wasn't the Lucky split. Thank God! Good luck getting this hemi up and running again. Can't wait to see the outcome.
You guys never cease to amaze!! The Mopar God's are definitely in your corner! The Hemi Gremmie lives again & I've got good feelings for the 55!! Best of luck & stay safe!!
2 blown and 1 nearly blown Mopar. Yeah, those gods are in their corner.
Such a bummer but I’m glad you guys are digging in and trying to make it run. Good luck!
Glad to see you guys still chasing it!
You can see the roadkill ramp truck from space ! Also great job boys love you finn
Love y’all glad to see Tony in this mess with ya.
Glued to this! couldn't wait for this upload!
IF YOU HAVE TOO…MAKE A PASS WITH BLASHEMI ON THE BACK OF THE RAMP TRUCK PULLING THE TRAILER
Or maybe a winch with 1320 feet of cable?
Great idea. Crowd favourite needs a trip down the track 👍
Hahaha, I said the same thing.
Tony are the truth brother!!
Wear that scar with pride.
The Hemisphere Gods blessed you again!! Can't NH wait for Indy!! Good Luck
I'm really glad you and Tony are doing this together.
Awesome guys. Looking forward to seeing it run again
Thanks for sharing!! Just remind yourself the Top Fuel teams do this after every run + the trans + the rearend !!
The top fuel team I have watched does not use a transmission. The clutch handles everything. Watch the Clay channel and he will sit in the truck (with his race suit still on) with the tech guy and go over the data log. As they review, the mechanics bring in any broken parts. He has burned the crap out of his fingers grabbing a part that was still hot. That is pretty amazing that he made a run and had a piston (missing rings) in his hand, before he got out of his suit or had time to review the graph from the data log.
Tony knows what he’s talking about.
He has a fantastic history of braking thing 😂😂
Was so looking forward to riding along with you guys. Can't even imagine! What a downer... With you all the way... Onwards and upwards, best of luck with what's to come 👍
As much as your luck has sucked I've loved the story. great work guys!
Drag week this year has more quality camera coverage from different perspectives than the dang Super Bowl.
Good news is, you are the only ones building a Mopar aluminum Hemi, to reinstall in a 55 Chevy gasser, on a Thursday, at the racetrack. Legendary
The whole time watching this I was thinking, What a simple compression test? You did get off easy good luck racing.
I was thinking leak down test and then using compressed air to find where you're losing pressure.
Way to keep a good attitude, I know personally I would have been devastated and I’m sure you were but you kept your cool and I also admire that you admitted your mistakes, allot of people like to blame everyone else. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed that you weren’t able to compete, but it also helped me learn a valuable lesson in humility. Always learning something from ya, appreciate it, keep your head up!
You are persistent, like this, never stop.
Next ramp truck project needs to be mounting a hitch receiver into the side of the ramp truck bed and modifying an engine stand to mount there.
What awesome luck! Congrats, I hope this is the start of nothing but good things for you and your crew.
I'm really sorry this happened to you.. I'm glad you have friends there to help you though it really does make all the difference.
Awesome that’s all it is… I mean technically the second ring is an oil scraper… So when the top ring goes to hell the second ring has to try to hold back cylinder pressure it ain’t happening… Ones designed to push against the cylinder when pressure is on top, the others designed to push against the cylinder when pressure comes from underneath… Won the lottery on this one my dudes..! Can’t wait to see it fixed next video! 👍
Hell yeah so glad it was nothing really serious . Love watching that car run she's awesome
Tony Angelo is the man, so glad to see him on this video
You guys are absolute machines.
LOVE that its not gonna be down for 2 years again. really looking forward to seeing it make a rip!
When fins car is on the two step and launches is the most satisfying thing ever.
I know you want to be out there racing but this content was just as good if not better. Kudos to you all for not giving up. Love your content.
Persistence pays off...great video! Thanks for sharing
You should get some little hemi picture stickers, and like WW2 pilots paste them on the side of your car for every time you killed an engine
So.....basically wrap the car with little Hemi stickers. Got it!
That would be hysterical.
Buzzing for you Mike, fingers crossed you can make the last day or two and have some fun. Great call by Tony as well, he called the rings as a possible issue.
Nice drone footage , get parts have fun on Friday is a good ider .
Perseverance and drive will overcome anything and you sir have both. Good luck 💪💪
Thank you for showing the ring damage/lack of tension thing in detail. I wasn't quite following you on that before but there's no denying that has occurred. The weather in STL has cooled off a lot, you'll see what I mean when you get back here Friday.
Glad to see you and Tony are going to fix it
Race week gremlins!! (double meaning) Slap it back together and let er’ eat! Great job to the entire crew.
"Fix the Hemi" ! Should be your next T-shirt design. 😄
Top man for allways trying to continue 👏
Yahoo!!!! Big sigh!!! Someone said in the comments that you never know who your true friends are until a catastrophe hits and they are right. You have awesome friends and you should feel truly thankful. Always keep in touch with them and always have their back.
Can’t wait see Blasphemi ride again!
Steve Morris had an oil issue with Tom Bailey's engine from the injectors, pistons grabbed the rings and caused detonation. I think Cleeter did the same thing you did here to mullet one time too.
Glad nothing was melted. Good learning experience for those who don't understand how important ring gaps and ring tension are on a piston.
I would have thought you'd have some sort of limp mode programmed into the ECU for if a lean or rich situation happens? Is that not something that can be done to prevent a fuel starvation scenario?
Great to see Tony, with you this year.
Unlucky mate. Thanks for sharing the journey.
GREAT VIDEO MIKE!!!! LADY LUCK WAS ON YOUR SIDE!!!! REDEMPTION IS NEAR!!!! RESSURECTION IN PROGRESS!!!! YOU WILL SUCCEED!!!! GREAT VIDEO AND THANKS FOR THE UPDATE!!!!
Need to Blasphemi running again ; good luck !!!
Some well deserved luck ! Light at the end of the tunnel 👌🏾 you got this 👊🏾
Getting flashbacks to the Roadkill Firebird One Lap of America episode, blow up engine day 1, work on replacing the motor, doesn't work out, fix the motor to hopefully make it to at least some of the events even though you're knocked out of competition. Only major difference is this one wasn't due to One Lap Tony :)
