The Fiesta is a really fun little car, that I have a few basic criticisms with. I drove both of the following for thousands of miles, and upon comparing the 2011 Fiesta to a 2017 Fit, here are the pros and cons of each that I've immediately noticed off-hand (not sure what updates the Fiesta has had since 2011, so please keep that in mind): 2011 Fiesta: *Pros - more sporty & fun, with a vastly superior suspension to the Fit. Goes over bumps and around corners like its nothing. Smart enough to know to charge phones/tablets/cameras by USB when the car is off and key is out overnight (apparently, if anything drains it too far, it stops charging the item). Cost less than the Fit - One of the most affordable small cars on the market. Tires kept pressure absurdly well. No squeaks from the interior materials. Far better side mirrors, with excellent blind spot mirrors included on both sides. *Cons - the dual clutch automatic was clearly rushed to market and not ready for prime time...needed two recalls (hey, at least they paid for it) due to grumbling noise and uncertain shifting at slow speed...Ford did a bit of good by freely extending the transmission warrantee on it to 5 years, which meant a lot. Narrow cabin, and pretty much the opposite of the Fit in terms of having interior space. Higher rpms at 70mph than the Fit, meaning a bit more gas is wasted and a bit more noise at that speed. Worse resale value. 2017 Fit: *Pros - With the CVT, superior fuel efficiency to the 2011 Fiesta DCT (appears to be about 4-5 mpg better in the real world). Best-in-class interior space and use of space, to the point of being almost hard to believe (why every automaker hasn't copied the magic seat idea is beyond me). Smoother transmission (CVT vs. DCT). Though the base model is more expensive than the base Fiesta, it includes more things (rear-facing camera, automatic windows, Bluetooth, more speakers, CD, more USB ports, more electronic vehicle monitoring). Quieter at 70 mph, due to CVT. Better resale value. *Cons - Inferior suspension that feels like a car from 20 years ago...dives in corners, bounces like a spring over bumps, etc....no comparison. Makes me think of a truck. Have to refill two of the 4 tires every 4 months. Headliner has had an annoying squeak since the car was new (somewhere over the driver's side, rear). Doesn't do smart charging of phones, etc. Lastly, all of the things people hate about how CVT's feel...this last one is subjective, depending on what you like, but it feels weirdly smooth to the point of being like a slipping clutch. CVT sounds more noisy than the Ford DCT upon acceleration. Inferior side mirrors, with no blind spot mirror on the passenger side. Really, both of these are good cars, and you can't go too wrong with either. If you aren't sure, drive both and see which you prefer, based on your likes and needs, and read up on what people in forums report on both.
@@kirbyswarp As far as the CVT goes, you are dead wrong. You may not like the CVT feel, but objectively, it is the superiour transmission. And Honda CVT's are good and easiest to repair if something fails.
@@ronaldderooij1774 you're crazy, old man. The manual has always been the more reliable transmission. Fun factor is subjective, but the manual is the most engaging, therefore most fun. As far as I'm concerned.
I've tested the manual transmission fiesta on a road trip. Even though Ford states that the automatic gets better mpg's, we didn't find that to be true. As a matter of fact, the manual transmission Fiesta gets WAY better MPG's than Ford Clams. Highway we were getting between 44 to 45 MPG. That's up there in Geo metro territory! Yeah the Fiesta is tight for space inside, but this is a SUB COMPACT and fantastic fuel mizer, well worth the compromise!
Thanks for this video. It was very nice and it allowed me to know a little better this car because I plan to buy one very soon. To improve my English (I am French) I would be happy to help you by translating the subtitles in French if you agree. ☺ ️ I think these subtitles are within my reach in terms of difficulty and I would love to be able to reconcile both the improvement of my English and also a better quality video that will affect more people ☺
I really like my 2017 SE. Despite what Motorweek says, it a fun car to drive in the mountains. Responsive and nimble. And they have worked on the powerflite transmission. Seems to be better than in 2011. It is small on the inside. I think Ford could have done better in the space planning.
Every review I've read / seen about the fiesta is very positive with minor gripes. The fiesta seems to be a solid car and the one I'd buy if I were looking for a small car.
@FrenchValleyAirport Understeer describes the car tending to go straight (wide) rather than turn in the direction you told it to. If you were going very fast and turned turned the wheel sharply, you would plow forward rather than turning. This is the "safer" configuration of a car, since you can reduce speed and regain steering. A car that oversteers tends to turn more inward as you steer. The nose turns in and the rear comes around. At high speed the car can spin out this way.
V-Tech, VVT-i, MIVEC, CVTCS, DCVCP, now Ford's TiVCT. I love how every manufacturers gives a different name for a system that dose basiclly the same job: variable valve timing.
The engine for the Camry is built by Toyota in Alabama with castings from Missouri and Tennessee. They also have an engine plant in West Virginia that builds engines for other models. Not sure what a Camry has to do with a Fiesta though. Totally different class of vehicle. Incidentally one of the Fiesta's primary competitors - the Honda Fit - will soon be built at a new plant in .. your guessed it.. Mexico.
@frank55656 The camshaft drive the valve, it all in the same system. The crankshaft drives the camshaft either by timing chain, belt, or gears. The camshaft then opens the valve by pushrods, rockers, ect. Adjust the cam timing, and it will adjust the valve timing. What the cams can't do it adjust valve lift if that's what you meant.
Love this car,,jus boght a second hand with 130 thousand miles and the engine is dry,,the car is vey nice and comfort.just like any second hand car,, you need to find problems before they find you. Manual transmission, so smooth on the road and it asks the way on the road. @Aspireonthego I guess to cut prodution costs they resort to rear drum brakes on cheaper models (or non performance ones). Still in the age of ABS/ESP/ASR you would think that 50's tech drum brakes would go away....
@sweetwater88 that's because all small cars in europe cost more...small cars, despite the reduced cost of building them, are in higher demand over there and cost a lot more, whether it's gas or diesel.
DualofChaos, not happy with inability to shift the "automatic" yourself? Learn to drive the manual transmission. I'm glad to see the manual transmission still available in America.

Understood. The other poster really should have been comparing the Fiesta to the Toyota Yawnis... er, Yaris. Toyotas have their place, but providing excitement usually isn't it. F-RS possibly excepted.
@hb4fun22 Nobody does, if you want to blame anyone blame the UAW for over inflating their wages. An assembly line worker doesn't need to make more than 15 bucks an hour unless they are in some sort of management position.
Why do they still have rear drum brakes? The only cars I see anymore with rear drum brakes are cheap Dacia's 1.1L 54hp cars!? They need to bring the 1.6TDCi to the US as well. It only has 90hp but packs 156lbs torque over the 112lbs torque of the 120hp version, and gets way better fuel economy. Maybe Ford will revive the Fiesta ST 170hp version for the US as well. (Hopefully if they do they will give it rear Disc brakes!)
No Nav?! Hey, Ford, it's the 21st century.I hope the manual is better than the Mazda/Ford one. Power is over-rated. The center stack looks like a Ferengi. But yea for subcompact hatches. Your opinions may vary.
@frank55656 The accent also has a better warranty. The fit also has honda reliability and resale value. Perhaps you are unaware that we are in the worst economic downturn since the great depression. Used car prices are sky high, hyundai with its warranty and bargain prices have managed to grow while others have trimmed production. The Fiesta is not a bargain it is being sold full bang while its competition has incentives. If the Fiesta w/ air & automatic @ $11,500 would be a winner.
Pretty sure Ford paid MW for this review. Notice how they keep mentioning the Fit. They wanted desperately for the Fiesta to take sales from the Fit, the top dog at the time. Pretty sure that failed.

I was totally disgusted with the shiny, hard, red plastic on the door armrests of the model I was in. I'm waiting for the 2012 Accent now.
Personally I think this is overpriced, a couple grand more gets you a Jetta, Corolla, Civic. The same money or less gets you a SX4, Versa, Fit, Yaris. Plus Ford does not hold its value like Honda/Toyota. This car would be a value at 9-12K, remember it was not long ago that kia rio was selling for $5,995 and the new Accent starts under 10K gets 40MPG and 10yr 100K warranty. And for many consumers that is its competition.
@soyntgo4it does tha mean they are using ecoboosters instead of turbochargers ?? LOL Imagine this conversation at the drag-strip.. "yo man, I am running mid 8's with my Ecoboosted Hayabusa !!"
@timforsyth89 I think the Fiesta more than compete with the Aveo/Aveo5 those things are cheap Piece of $hit. Some trims in the 4 door sedan look not bad outside and in but those Aveos are just a cheap re-badged Daewoo. Hopefully Chevy Drops them soon now that they have the new Cruze. @Motorchevytoyota if GM made such "good" cars, why did they basically go out of business ? Because they had a fleet of poorly built, stodgy looking crates. Ford didn't stand there with their hands out and beg the govt. to save their ass. Toyota gets mad props, they make great cars, just BORING. People choose the cars that are good. Fords obviously are good, they're very successful, as is Toyota. Chevy could learn from them as well as from Hyundai (whick look a bit like Fords)
All respect to ford for creating a car like this, it's a flop...hyundai is STILL a better option if your looking for a entry level car. I would rather have a new redesigned hyundai elantra coming soon...sorry ford..just not good enough..too slow...the screen looks like its from the 90's, and not enough standard features or power..
@immobile2 A Versa! are you kidding me! Crap build quality, a shitty transmission and one of the worse in fuel economy AND handling. If you said honda fit then ok but I think I speak for everyone when I say....YOU NEED TO SEE A DOCTOR CAUSE YOUR SICK!

Blame the higher price for the fiesta on unions. You think car manufacturers absorb all the cost of ridiculously high union pay and selfish benefits?
built by Mexicans, and its called the Fiesta....go figure
hb4fun: I know the feeling about it being in Mexico, though I know it to help keep the cost down so it can compete with the Kia Rio, Honda Fit, Chevy Aveo, and est. I'm just glad there is a small sub compact that ford has that has good gas mpg that not costing me 20,000 plus by the time I add something like ford sync on it
