    Skid inserted a fan-made adventure into Book One of Rise of the Runelords as part of Legacy. When you guys went to Chopper’s Island and encountered the haunts and attic whisperer there, that was fan content. I remember him crediting it when he did it, and it led me to go out and find it for my own RotR 2e-converted campaign. It’s a great way to “fill in the blanks” where there is a gap in an AP.

    Great fod, love to see the improvements to team tactics. One thing that wasn't mentioned was when Skid rolled for healing with Buggles; that should just be a 2+(level × 2) heal...no rolling required.

    You had me at Heroforge and GCP. I actually built an entire ensemble of the major characters (PCs and NPCs) once in Hero Forge and posted it to the GCN fanpage on FB. Now I can't WAIT to got back and see the actual CASTS interpretation. So excited!

    Re: Foundry - A lot of the effects and spells have a spell effect little square that you can drag right onto your token. In the case of bless - when you apply it, you'll get an automatic aura attached to your token and an effect in the corner. On future turns, if you sustain to increase the radius, you should be able to left click to increase the radius automagically. Lots of really good automation and help in the PF2E system in Foundry, though likely not as much help for the hybrid way the table plays.

    Loving Time for Chaos!
    Thinking on Time for Chaos and the whole bottle cap economy thing, there might be an oppertunity to borrow a solution from the other game.
    it seems like bottlecaps have been a bit of a millstone. The were a fun house rule back when the GCP started but as time's gone on there's all the stuff with remembering to give them out, tracking them, and while I do think the modern APs are written with Hero Points being used as a core assumption, I do get that dramatic deflation that a horded cap undoing a character death can create... so rip out caps/hero points and replace it with Call of Cthulhu luck rules.
    Now I realise that may sound like crazy talk but a lot of people don't seem to realise how mechanically similar parts of Call of Cthulhu are, perhaps because the game feels so different. A d20 game is basically a percentile game but less granular. Instead of worrying the 1's and 2's, each number of a d20 is 5%. If you have a pass a DC 11 flat check, you have a 50% chance to succeed, if only a nat 17 will hit the target's AC, you have a 20% chance to hit. Translation is essentailly taking a number an multiplying it by 5 and that's literally what you do in Call of Cthulhu for your stats. You roll 3d6, just like you would in classic D&D/Pathfinder, and you multiply by 5 to get the number you need for your percentile checks.
    This isn't needed to implement luck in 2E but another less obvious similarity is that 2E kinda does Call of Cthulhu's opposed rolls and degrees of success but it's less obvious. I get it, sounds like more crazy talk but here me out. Everything in 2E is a DC and that's notmally by taking the relevant skill/modifiers and adding 10. In otherwords you're opposed rolling but the defender is (1E) taking 10 to streamline things. So, for example the monster 'succeeds' their defence roll getting a 25 overall so the PC needs to get a 'hard' succees and get 25 or better to hit and an 'extreme' would be 35 for a crit.
    So, how would this work in 2E? Just like Call of Cthulhu, each character rolls 3d6. We're not multiplying by 5 here, it's just the flat number. Average will be 10/11. Start of each session, each player is looking to beat their luck score on a d20. Succeed and given you can't get more than 10 in CoC you roll a d2 and that's how much luck you gain (also means if the gods favour you and you rolled 18 for your luck then a nat 20, you can't have more than 20/100% luck). Spending it would be pretty much the same as CoC. Instead of Caps/Hero Points being another coin toss you spend the points. Know this knowledge check is going to drop some super important game info but roll a 'tweener? Dump some luck on it. Action Kate not getting action? How many times would just nudging 1 or 2 more score a hit? And if you take the opposed roll idea and allow it for defence? A boss crit you by a couple of points? Spend a couple of luck to turn that into a normal hit, which would surely be dramatically better than taking the crit then spending a cap to magically stabalise.
    The other advantage of this is it also gives a new mechanic you can call on. Take the 'unconcious on the rocks' scenario, you now have a luck stat so why not a luck roll? Now that could be equivalent to CoC, which would be roll under your luck score on a d20, or it could be P2Eised by working out what current luck modifier would be, assigning a DC, etc. which allows for shifting the goalpost to reprent just how lucky you'd need to be for it to pan out the way you want, representing form a simple coin-toss chance to a one in a million. Working at as a stat with bonus may be a bit too fiddly but then creates that interesting tension that you're unlikely to earn more luck unless you spend it but, at the same time, if you burn too much then you're screwed if something comes down to a luck roll.

    the main advantage from hiding is that most creatures who use hide usually have higher stealth values so they can go first in the intiative. the order of initiative is the reward in pf2e, altho as an ex 5e gm i kinda miss suprise rounds.

    • @lorenzovaletti4951
      @lorenzovaletti4951 4 месяца назад +1

      And also the fact that those creatures rolling stealth are actually UNDETECTED, not hidden, since the party had no idea they existed (yet), which might give them more options for sneaking where they want, at least until they attack. The surprise round is already sort of baked in: once a player's turn in initiative comes up, if the enemies are undetected, the player can't target them. They can either try and Seek them out by guessing where they might be hidden, or just delay/do something else. Then the enemy's turn comes and they get their "surprise turn". A good tip for the GM in those cases is to shift the game into initiative mode WITHOUT saying anything more to the players. They should not know that a combat is about to break out, it might be a hazard, it might be nothing. ;)

    Re: the long-campaign question - circumstances caused my home game to from long-campaign to shorter runs with different GMs running different games, and I don't think I'll ever want to go back. 8-10eps, beginning/middle/end, NEXT!! That's the sweet spot, imo.
    Eta: Except for Masks of Nyarlathotep, but that breaks down into chapters. I ran Peru in about 6 episodes, now we're starting Kids on Bikes, and when we get back to Masks, we'll just do New York and move on

    Now to my thoughts, this weirdo cat lizard fight is once again a fantastic display of why the exploration activities are so good, my personal experience with them is that they're really helpful to flesh out characters because it lets them be uniquely prepared for certain encounters.
    The weirdo cat lizards getting the jump on the party is completely fine I just wish that the players had had the chance to establish what they were doing that let the cat lizards sneak up on them.
    And yeah that fireblast has to be missing a save. What an ability.
    Loved this EP

    Possible way to streamline "Borrow a Spell" : Roll against a DC for success, if successful, DC drops by 1 for the next day. DC drops on each successful check, equal to the number of CONSECUTIVE days of success (2nd day success drops next day's DC by 2). Idea being, as they continue to borrow that spell, they grow more familiar / comfortable with the preparation. DC can only drop, never resets to original DC - drops to a set minimum DC (DC 5 + spell level, as an example).

    • @yellowpetelol6417
      @yellowpetelol6417 4 месяца назад

      I'm not sure this streamlines much, as now you've also got to track for each spell how often you've succeeded, and in the end you're still tediously rolling checks daily with trivial difficulty. It's way too much complexity for little payoff, especially for a format like a show.

    Rambo was great; I'm really looking forward to Kong. Speaking of movie-connected RPGs, I've long thought that the GCN (Skid in particular) could do wonderful things with Onyx Path's They Came from Beneath the Sea!, in which each adventure is a (real or imagined) science fiction film from the 1950s, and there are opportunities for such things as bad dubbing and missing or reshot scenes. I imagine there would have to be talks with Onyx Path to make it happen, and maybe it's a game that's already been considered. In any case, it would be a thing of beauty.

    Keeping interest in long term campaigns will also depend on the players. Some players don't want long term stories and just want a bunch of shorter stuff, to keep things varied and interesting to them. Spending a long time (years in the case if your guys shows) on the same story is too much for some folks. They want their stories in smaller chunks.
    Difference between watching a bunch of films over watching multiple seasons of the same TV show. One format is small stories finished faster, while the other is a story drawn out over time (if you take all that happens to the characters as the one long story of their life/career etc).
