The 2 most incredible things about this engineering marvel are # 1. That so many sports car "enthusiasts " doesn't know about this car and, #2 that mitsubishi hasn't even considered to bring this model back. Toyota did it with the supra, Nissan did it with the 300zx, hell even mazda said it's bringing back the rx7 in 2025. It's about time for the Starion to come back, 350whp!!!!!!
Word! I f*cked up back in 2018 by not buying a Conquest for about $1800 that only needed a turbo... I was scared of working on cars at the time, and was only comfy with fluid changes and bulbs and such. I heavily regret it, since I've wanted a Starion since I first saw them in Gran Turismo back in probably GT2. I can't remember if it was in GT1. I stupidly passed up on a mint VW Corrado for $3300, and a 78' Malibu with a stockish non-smogger Chevy Small Block 350 that was pumping out about 300hp for only $3800.. Kicking myself daily for not buying any of those 3. But especially the Conquest/Starion and the Corrado. That Malibu was sweet though. Dude just finished a slight restomod and it was clean inside and out.
These things are cool. Had one show up to our service department (I work for a Mitsu dealership) in white with a red interior. So wanted to buy it. And to think the Starion is one of very few models Mitsubishi made that was front engine-rear wheel drive. Maybe swap in a 4g63 or 4b11 or even a modified OEM engine. And it would make a good drift car. And that boxy look is so freaking dope.
My second car, JA 2.0 Starion. Felt like Hassellhoff in it. Mine had far sexier seats and interior than shown from memory, very space age. Talk about turbo lag. First turbo I ever blew up. I also remember the little brother FWD Cordia Turbo, never see them anymore!
@@gregroles69 cordia!!! Wow dude i had the 88 mirage turbo with 105hp, i threw a saab 2.0 intercooler and a 1300cc extra fuel injector spraying straight into the throttle body... that little thing was flying , took on crx's rx7, honda civics, 300zx toyotas 1.8 and 1.6 ,man i was the king of the streets back then:-)
Here's a fun fact. Mitsubishi first released a small 2 door hatchback, called the 'Colt'. The next model up from this, was to be called the 'Stallion'. However back in the day, something went missing in translation and (Google translate was still the stuff of science fiction) and we got the 'Starion' instead. Not to be outdone, here in Australia we later got the Mitsubishi SUV called the 'Pajero' (translate that from Spanish - 'wanker') and then Toyota was meant to release the SUV called the 'Kruger' after the South African wildlife Park, but Japanese Engrish interfered again and we got the 'Kluger'. Who comes up with these names?
Its a neat car, my neighbor had one in silver. My experience is a little spoiled because she chain smoked in it and it always smelled of beer. I would love to see a clean restored one.
I was still a teen when this car arrived in North America. While the magazines all raved about it, I was less than impressed. The problem was, I was too old. I had lived through the muscle car era. I remembered when cars had massive power. When a Trans AM had a 455ci, Mustangs with 427s, Chargers with 440 magnums. European cars had V12s, high revving V8s, and overhead cam fuel injected 4s. It was hard to be impressed by cars that took 16 seconds to do a quarter mile. It was also rather odd looking. Somewhat strangely proportioned and the fit and finish were nowhere near the quality of other Japanese brands. I think it hurt the brand being associated with Chrysler at this time, as Chrysler's reputation for quality was in the gutter. As the car evolved it became somewhat more interesting, especially when the wide body arrived.
I think the eagle was Plymouth's version of the 1990 mitsubishi eclipse ( at least one version) eagle talon 4wd turbo intercooled 5 speed tranny and active steering, only 136hp but enough for the 90's
@@angelgalv4759 you are right. I couldn't wrap my head around why people thought 130hp civics were race cars because they were replacing the 225hp mustang 5.0 as the mee too car. the DSM AWDs were quick when hopped up, but IIRC they required a lot of maintenence.

That would be a huge upgrade as these cars in the 80s didn’t make 200hp at the crank…
This car was in Cannon Ball Run II featuring Jakie Chan

They are very cool cars

Turbo lag! My first car was a 1980 turbo Trans Am. That little V8 took forever to spool that turbo
@cjonesufc turbo trans am, the one with the turbo meter on the scoop of the hood looked so cool.
I had a 1987 ESI-R in college. Such a fun car.
Starion is so badass!
0:44 hello rx7!

Japanese Engrish?! That's hilarious, better keep that one quiet or it may end up becoming the model name of your next import automobile.
@GarthWatkins-th3jt It's up there with my other famous moniker 'Walmartians', so far it has about 10k likes.
My uncle had a Chrysler conquest tsi. That thing was fast. Outlander a camero iroc z on interstate. We hit 140mph.
I was offered to buy a red one with low miles on it, in mint condition except it had a snapped cam belt. for $350 about 25 years ago. Still regret it
Think this was in the Film "Cannon Ball Run" if I'm not mistaken!!? Black one with a Japanese fella driving it..
I had the 89' Chrysler Conquest TSI which was a 2.0 with the wide body option.
These were very popular on Australia back in my high school days.
7:39 you showed a picture of the wrong 300ZX. Pictured is the 1990 300ZX with a drag coefficient of .31.
Some misinformation here. The 1981 Nissan 280ZX Turbo had fuel injection and turbocharger prior to this.
Its a neat car, my neighbor had one in silver. My experience is a little spoiled because she chain smoked in it and it always smelled of beer. I would love to see a clean restored one.
My ex boss had one brand new ,it was fun to drive ,I was maybe 20 at the time ,it's fast but I'm a V8 fan toque 😂

could have been a good vid if it wasn't AI voiced
I never realised how much the 2nd gen rx7 looked like the Starion/Eagle until this video

I have only seen one of these in the UK. Are they like super rare these days?
Truth : STALLION 👀 in a VERY heavy Chinese accent 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
😮💨
Having owned the Chrysler version of these .. (conquest).. I find these video hilarious... those things were pigs 😂😂
0:43 was a FC mazda RX7..... bruhhh
its aged well
Mine got stolen 1986 triple black. In Atlanta 😢. Never found
I'll keep an eye out for it :D
Man this happened 20 years ago .. car long gone..
スタリオンって海外ではあんまり知られてないのか?
It would be nice to see a starion as a new car, but Nissan owns Mitsubishi now so it won't happen🙁
Great video. Terrible AI voice over.
They didnt need this car. Thats why the evo exists.
Good looking, great handling, but slow as a 3 legging cow.
