@@bermchasin It's safe provided it's done correctly. They have to start descending gently before the jump to counterbalance the upward jolt from the loss of weight when the skydiver jumps off.
I saw something like this in another video. Apparently, when someone jumps from a hot air balloon, the sudden loss of ballast weight (the jumper) causes the basket to lift suddenly which, in turn, causes the balloon to sandwich and expel hot air. This causes the balloon to rapidly descend. Probably why the pilot was gunning the burner at the end of the video. So, balloon sky diving isn't just an adrenaline sport for the diver, it is also for everyone in the balloon too.
As long as you've got the proper permissions and licensing and the pilot knows you're doing it and knows what he's doing to balance the balloon after that That's freaking awesome
I feel like you all saw that clip with the guy who didn’t tell the hot air balloon pilot he was gonna jump until after they were up in the air. That guy was such a prick for not realising the danger he was putting the passengers in.

It's amazing how we as humans can put so much faith into something like some nylon cords and canopy to safely lower us to the ground, I did a tandem jump for my B-Day and it was a good experience but I would really like to try base jumping where you get more of a falling sensation!
we humans also put faith in a lot of sheet metal, rivets and nuts and bolts every time we get in a plane. We also put faith in a very basic hydraulic system called our brakes wvery time we get in a car. There are lots of acts of faith in everyday life.

you do realise what would happen if you did a bungee jump? everything would come crashing down. also if somehow the balloon is able to withstand such force, youd still be left dangling in the air.

What about the safety of the people remaining in the hot air balloon basket? I thought a change in weight would cause the basket to rise and for the balloon to possibly collapse.
There was a video of a balloon pilot stopping an impromptu sky diver from leaving the balloon and I thought the problem would be that the hot balloon would rise if was suddenly minus 75 kg (165 lbs) but it doesn't seem to be a problem here, how come?

Just today I stumbled upon a video of hot air ballon pilot trying to stop a skydiver from jumping. The idiot didn't inform pilot or other passengers of his plans in advance and tried to jump. This move could've killed other people on a ballon, because sudden loss of weight causes the basket to rapidly go up and the ballon just collapses on itself
In the circumstances in this video, sure. Do you know enough about piloting a balloon to understand what the correct actions and conditions should be to make sure it’s safe? I’d imagine that planning the jump with the pilot is the first step in making things safe.

I never understand taking a base rig from a balloon. if you're jumping slider up and not pulling super low why not just take a skydive rig and have the safety of a reserve?

Balloon jumps do feel like you're falling...until you hit "terminal" of course.
My experience and feelings exactly, except I had 255 jumps. I miss the experience, but not the commitment.

Nothing, Chris.... The weight ratio between basket and load is very big... And that's got nothing to do with a back flip or not....
