West Indies - listen, I hope you guys know what it means to play for the West Indies and why this game is so important to the region. Pls listen carefully to the lyrics of Rally Round the West Indies…. “No noble thoughts brought us here to this region”. Your opponents yesterday are the descendants of those who caused us pain and trauma (barring our own who have joined Babylon for money, but that’s a discussion for another time!) - wake up and understand this is not just bat and ball, sports, a game, IT IS WAY MORE THAN THAT. If you don’t care and don’t want to take that responsibility of representing our people on the world stage that’s absolutely fine, nobody is forcing you, but if you don’t take this responsibility seriously, respectfully leave the team and go chase money like our fellow West Indians playing for England ! The team has definitely improved but let’s commit, stay focused and not become complacent. Everyone says the West Indies is their 2nd team but trust me this is just for their pure entertainment. They don’t take us seriously because they don’t want to, because once we tap into our true ability and understand we really are the kings of cricket we will be number 1. There is no doubt in their minds. Dont stay in the box they want us to remain in. Last point, when we were winning t20 world cups the main feedback was “oh this isn’t really cricket, you don’t need skill to play it, it’s just swinging and hoping for the best” when we started to decline all of a sudden this format started to be respected. When we are dominating, the cricketing world does not take it seriously because they refuse to accept we can be the best because of the background history of the region. I will always Rally but I want the team to truely understand what they are playing for !
