I can recommend the mayflash mf103 adapter. granted it's a bit bulky as it's a 2-controller adapter, but with firmware updates they cover the n64 online mapping and the super mario 3d all-stars mapping perfectly
@@lilboy7642 hmm, I only know of the blissbox adapter, but that one is more expensive and out of stock for years, I don't think it's a viable option. Maybe 2 mayflash adapters, but I don't know if that will work seamlessly
Thanks for keeping it real on these reviews. There's a lot of cool products popping up in the retro gaming scene featuring some pretty amazing technology, but there's also a whole lot of crap too.
Can't put this on Hyperkin as it was released before Nintendo even announce their N64 lineup. If Nintendo would do what any free emulator can do and allow remapping of the buttons within the software there would be no issues and ANY controller would work
well, the only possible way to remap the controller, is you need a Titan One Adapter within the N64 to Switch Adapter controller, if you maybe need to synchronized the setup on the Titan One in order to use for the Controller adapter to Nintendo Switch. And if you’re done with the synchronization of the Titan One setup, plug it in on Switch within the N64 Controller adapter, then you can remap your OG N64 Controller.
I use mine on the switch all the time and it works perfectly fine for me! It could be a little misleading at first since it doesn't recognize the c- buttons while testing out button inputs and it won't let you remap, but rest assured it recognizes all of the buttons once you load into the N64 online/expansion pack! 8/10 from me!
It is almost as though the lack of re-mapping is intended to sell as many Switch N64 controllers as possible. Except that they are all sold out and you cannot buy one. Only Nintendo can Nintendo this hard.
I don't know for sure, but I'd look into what the Raphnet N64 to USB adapters can do. If there is a switch version then it's buttons can be remapped. All new Raphnet adapters can be remapped.
Hoping for an update on this. I looked into a little and there are like 7 different settings for this adapter. Seeing how it's near impossible to get an official N64 online controller 🤬 we need an option. Does the tribute64 work well with the new expansion pack of N64 games??
I just bought one and yes, that's correct. The problem is you don't have access to ZL and ZL is what you'd need to Z Target in Ocarina of Time or barrel roll to the left in Star Fox 64.
Now we need a Wii controller adapter for when Metroid Prime Trilogy gets ported over …or it comes out crappy so we just emulate it on PC for HD graphics
Dammit! I'm so jealous you got your review unit of the VS! I nearly cried when I saw your video about the delay of my Founders Unit. And the saddest part is the Founders Edition would put your name in the credits but I saw the email too late and missed out
Can you test out the switch n64 controller on a n64 console ? I know you reviewed the n64 wireless adapter months ago this would be the perfect time to test it out and see if the switch n64 controller is compatible.
@Madlittlepixel Can you also try out to see if you can put the Rumble Pack or Memory Card on the original Nintendo 64 Controller with the Adapter on to see if it works on Ghost Data for Mario Kart 64 in Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack since the Nintendo 64 Online doesn't work with saving Ghost Data in the system?
I haven't tried it myself and haven't seen any RUclips videos on it but, will the Wireless NES & SNES controllers work on there respective Mini counterparts with an adapter from like 8bitdo?
Regardless of the adapter being at fault, Nintendo semi-hard locked its fans with the button mapping. They want you to pay another $50 for their controller that likely cost $8 to produce. Screw you Nintendo. Technically the cost of that EP is $100 because most people do not have an old N64 controller laying around. I mean, it was over 20 years ago!
The real question is... Can you test the N64 memory pak on your actual N64 controller into your Switch just to save your own ghost data from Mario Kart 64? Also now that you mentioned Mayflash, I was thinking of getting one just for my PS1 Mini (PlayStation Classic) to play with PS4 controllers and arcade sticks but I heard that it's garbage in terms of quality as one of the people at Discord told me about it.
I had the exact same problem. That's extremely annoying that you can't even remap the buttons on the controller you'd think that the switch would just automatically recognize that it's a Nintendo 64 controller but NOPE
So is it just some king of universal thing for everyone to wrap the N64 controller cord in a cross pattern instead of just doing a single pass over on handle or the other.
Thanks, was thinking of buying one, but glad I didn't. Hope they either update it, or mass produce the wireless N64 controller to drown the scalpers out.
Please try the Retro Fighters wireless controller with the Switch. I heard that one had correct button mapping for NSO, but I want to be sure before I order one.
I got the new Nintendo 64 controller… is there anyway to map the Y and X button got Mario Party? Love using it until a game does that or I want to view the map…
It’s not the adapter. It’s the emulator from Nintendo. Until they go in and fix the problems that’s already there, there’s always gonna be problems like this. Remapping the controller is a must. With experience, emulators on a PC allow you to map the controller. Keep Nintendo informed that we are not happy…
Agreed. They easily could have made it possible for ANY controller to work if they simply allowed remapping within the software like any free emulator out there. The Nintendo brand used to mean quality but seems like lately they are mailing it in for easy cash grabs.
@@kmjsuperfly1 Running an emulator is not exact science, specially on a game console. One great example. Project 64 on the PC had some errors. Mario Kart 64. @@snfullif Give the Mupen 64 Plus core on Retroarch a try. A lot of those issues are ironed out. Its really a good experience. In fact you can do some crazy things like upscale to 4K and do Widescreen. Pretty cool stuff.
@@kmjsuperfly1 So true! I upscale everything and it all runs flawlessly and it took very little brain power to get started. If you were using a Brawler64 pad instead of an official N64 controller, having Z and L swapped kind of makes sense doesn't it? If you're playing Star Fox 64 your right barrel roll would be on R and then by having Z and L swapped your left barrel roll would be on L instead making it more symmetrical. The same would apply to games like F-Zero GX and Ocarina of Time.
I bought one of these adapters and now I think I understand what the issue is. While you do have access to ZR with this adapter, you don't have a ZL (even with the different mappings) and ZL is what the Genuine N64 Controller would have underneath (keep in mind the original N64 Controller only had one Z button). ZR would be the extra button that they added on top of the Genuine Wireless N64 controller that they've released and I'm assuming that's the button you use to access the Menu to use save states, exit the game etc... If Hyperkin release a firmware update that gives you access to some additional button mapping options that include a ZL instead of a ZR that'd be awesome. UPDATE: He said that in the video. I must've missed it. Well... I'm an idiot.
There is currently no way to correctly map an N64 controller on Switch and the official wireless one is still sold out because of scalpers. My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.
It’s a replacement stick from a company called Kitsch Bent. Original N64 joystick parts were all plastic, so when they rubbed on each other, the stick would degrade and stop being accurate. That company makes replacement parts that will work in the original controller shells.
I use mine on the PC and it works great. Of course I lost the instructions so have no clue on how to remap the buttons. Luckily you can remap in Retroarch pretty easy.
Mine has a connection problem, sometimes my computer reads the adapter but sometimes it doesn’t, I found out the problem but to make it work I have to raise it. Basically I have to put something to hold it up for it to work, I’ve had it since last Christmas. You don’t have a problem like that?
@@justarandomguy5088 No I haven't had that issue. Sounds like maybe a dirty N64 connector? I'd try some good old IPA on the N64 controller contacts and try and work it back and forth to clean the connection. Good luck!
