Without question. He will have a statue in Detroit and probably every surrounding suburb and I wish I was joking. We are that desperate. He is the KING of this city right now.
He kinda is already but yeah if they win one he's the most beloved Detroit athlete ever hands down nobody comes close. They will most definitely build a statue if he wins the Lombard for us.

Jared Goff is a genuinely good human being. Not only has he shown such incredible stewardship and compassion but he has also helped change the entire culture here in Detroit. He went from people booing and continually being criticized to taking the wheel and guiding this entire team with the help of Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes etc. He has written his own chapter in the Lions history book and I'm confident he will help us realize the dream I have had for almost 50 years of the Lions winning a SB. Thank you Jared Goff, you are a gentleman and a scholar. #OnePride

Every time I hear his name mentioned I have to say it like this nowadays.
This man deserves to get paid. He's the leader, the offensive pieces are in place, his challenge was trying to overcome a inconsistent defense . He has played at a high level for the last 2 seasons. They have worked diligently to solidify the defensive personnel his best football is coming up and he is the QB for this team and fanbase he was gifted to us by LA and we are grateful.

Yeah, JG can't run like Lamar . And his arm, while adequate, is not 1st class, like Stafford's was. But here's the thing: At the end of the day the position of QB is still getting the ball to your playmakers as quickly and efficiently as possible. And I'm gonna go on record right now and say JG reads & processes defenses as well as anybody I've ever seen. I think he's up there with QB's like Peyton Manning & Drew Brees.

50 million a year is very affordable. Look at kc. The salary cap is skyrocketing up!
While this is true 5 years 225 million just seems so perfect for both sides. Lions get to save on the cap, he gets to stay with a team he's flourished with and stay in a city that loves him. I know 25 50 million is a huge amount to leave on the table but at what point does the situation you're in outweigh maximizing the dollars.

It's crazy with how well he's played over the last 30ish games people still refuse to believe he's so good. He's in the top 33% of QBs in the league. Top 10 territory, I'd put him in there all day. I'd say he's like 7th or 8th best in the league but I'm also a homer.

Jared Goff is obviously worth the max extension but if he were to take a home town discount in Detroit to help keep the team together then they will have a better chance to win it all plus there would be less pressure on him to win if he goes the Brady route and takes less money to have a better team around himself.
I've been telling myself all along 5 years 225 million feels so perfect. That's 45 annually and the lions save 5 to 7 mill a year. Don't think they're gonna get him for that cheap anymore though unfortunately
@@joshlewis575 I have heard that there's an "agreement" between sports agents that Brady-type ultra team friendly deals are over with. I don't think his agent would let him sign for anything less than 48 per, likely closer to 50; both of which I think are reasonable for a top tier QB like Goff. If Brad Holmes can secure Goff at 48 or 49 per year it'll be an absolute win.
There are only so many things that can be measured. He has what cannot be measured, the intangibles.

The cap is only going to keep increasing 50 mil a year will be CHEAP in 2 years, kinda reminds me of the deal we gave Stafford, it was huge for a season or 2 and then the cap and other qb contracts went up

As a Steelers fan I always admire the coach of the lions and Goff I told everyone few years ago the lions are coming. I saw the growing every year.

My respect for him has grown. As a 49er fan, he seemed like another "highly touted" QB. IMO nothing special. I couldn't figure out why he deserved to be #1. He didn't disappoint when we played him. He always gave off the "I'm better than you vibe". But after being traded he seemed to have changed and now seems like a cool guy. Sometimes it takes a shitty experience to get the best out of someone.
I just HOPE Goff understands team's situation and settle for around 5 years 240m

The reason the Lions haven't finished Goff's extension is because the NFL is going to make the Lions be on the hook for Cam Suttons 2024 salary. They do the right thing and cut him, and the NFL screws them on the salary cap.

@jarrodmurray6424 not totally true. Hutchinson is going into his 3rd year. If you count fifth year option then he has 3 years left.
With how much the cap has been increasing each year, 48-52 mil for a decent QB will be the "reasonable" baseline within 2 seasons. Securing a top tier QB like Goff for that much now is as close to "team friendly" as it might get. If they can do a 4 or 5 year deal with additional year options at that amount it'll be an absolute win.
Contract? Should be interesting ... hmm. I think he is great had a better post season than almost every QB....but I dont know what Holmes& Campbell really thinks. That said he should take a team friendly deal to win a chip

Detroit Lions Love is by far way stronger than any Rams/McVay hate for Jared. Detroit hasn't coddled him like LA did, he's been empowered by his current situation and has earned the trust and confidence to run the offense at an ELITE level.
The 24-23 Wildcard playoff win vs. Stafford and the Rams is all anybody needs to know about the situation. It was SWEET REVENGE!
