      "This is" a kalanchoe diagremontana or " Mother of thousands". They are very invasive in frost-free areas, and you will find babies coming up in every pot in sight. Might make a bonsai, since they tend to grow up as a single stem, and will throw aerial roots, but the base of the stem tends to be much thinner than the top. I cut off the top where it is thick and root it as a cutting. if you don't throw out the base, it will sprout branches that can be rooted as small plants. The little plantlets along the edge of the leaves drop off at the slightest puff of wind, drop to the ground, and grow wherever they land on a piece of dirt or sand. Easy plant to grow and highly drought resistant. Red or pink flowers when mature.

    The last one looked like a kalanchoe. Some of these plants will be very tricky to continue as bonsai. The aloe Vera leaves tend to get massive
    There are more appropriate aloes to bonsai like the fan aloe or climbing aloe amongst a few others.
    You may also want to look at something like tylecodons, and I personally would love to see you bonsai a crassula Hobbit/gollum plant :) maybe a red horn variety for some vivid colour or Hummel sunset jade or a variegated jade :)

      Ficus can loose their leaves if they are brought from outdoor sunlight to the dimmer light indoors. Usually they don't loose all their leaves, just the older ones. If the growing tips look good, with healthy looking buds, the tree should recover as it adjusts to indoor life.

      The secret to growing moss indoors is the high humidity of my plant room. You need a warm bright room with lots of plants to generate the high humidity in the air. You can get some nice window greenhouses that would give the same results, but on a smaller scale. Regular house air is too dry to grow moss.

  • @tharvey5077
    @tharvey5077 5 лет назад

I water every day but the moss has the same size in 2 weeks what can I do? And one more question: I have 2 tiny apple seedlings outside in a plastic covered pot and the temperature is 15-10°C do I have to move them inside the house?

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  5 лет назад

      The Apple trees need a cool period in winter where they should loose their leaves. They can safely go down to -10 C.
      Moss requires the right conditions to thrive. I think you would need greenhouse conditions to grow it well, good light and high humidity area must. It should be watered at least once a day and misted regularly 3 to 4 times per day. A small mini greenhouse would really help. It is difficult for me to keep my moss green in the middle of summer when it is hot and dry outside. Even regular misting doesn't help on some days, the moss will start to go brown until the humidity returns.

      I have a lot of trees with really nasty thorns, every now and then, the trees get me good!

    Here's a link to a mature aloe that I saw in Hamamatsu Garden Park (Japan) the other day. imgur.com/a/kE8Empu I figure you probably don't get to see mature ones very often where you live :-) I was actually kind of surprised by the amount of aerial roots. There are aloe farms in this area, but they also grow wild in a big tangled mess. I found this one interesting because the trunk was exposed, which I'd never really seen before. Anyway, I hope you find it interesting!

      That totally made my day! Thank you, such a good picture to add to my collection. It inspires me to know that a good tree form is possible! Aloe's are so cool!

      I get a lot of spiders living in my trees too. I don't mind the little eco systems!

    The biggest yucca bonsai looks like a pregnant lady, at least it's trunk😂

      Yes, I agree, it's seen a lot of severe pruning over the years and the results are a little unpredictable.
