I have never lived in a big city, so hearing someone say that $1400 rent for a one bedroom is WILD to me. I pay like $800 a month and that feels like too much lmao.
I'm paying $620 for a 1BR I live in by myself. Oh, and I've never been mugged or carjacked either! 😀
Honestly for a big city $1400 for a one br is CHEAP. For many cities a studio can cost you that much or even more

At first I was freaking out about how much we were seeing about where it was and the outside of the apartment and I was so afraid of potential stalkers for you then I realized you have already moved out and that was such a relief, you really had me panicking for a second 😂
In LA, find the neighborhood you want to live in and walk the streets looking for rental signs. There are tons of apartments everywhere and they're all cheap(er) now.

@@darliciatv8040 You'll find an apartment right away! Also, negotiate because they are having a hard time getting renters. Don't be afraid to haggle!

@@Sungoddessz It's how I found my current apartment 8 years ago and the new place i'm moving to next month! If you focus on what you need in a neighborhood, it makes the search easier. You'll also find places that aren't listed online (this is VERY common).
@@shontelhorneonline I live in Koreatown and there are SO many places with for rent signs so this is definitely true! I can’t wait to find a bigger space soon

Super obsessed with all the nostalgic touches, I recently moved out so I always enjoy seeing how people style and decorate and bring memories into their spaces.
I saw the title and was immediately like, “Why the eff is she moving back to LA? What happened to her house?” 😅
But then you explained. $1400 is good for a single in LA. But it’s still out of range for me since Miss Rona has me jumping from temp job to temp job. If I had a full time job, I’d definitely scoop this place up. And with many people leaving LA, hopefully the prices will start to come down. Imagine if a place like this goes as low as $1000? Omg, that would be heaven sent.
oooo idk why but i get sad when i hear everyone's leaving la, its like they're giving up on the place :'( which i understand, its no one's responsibility to hold out. but i forgot when ppl move out it'll probably make the place more affordable!
@@k_drive A lot of people are leaving LA. But a lot of people are moving in. So currently rents are pretty stable across the board. There are deals to be had, though, for people who are resourceful (which is different from what it was like before).

I feel like during COVID especially it's been super easy to get sick of my space. Even though I love it, I daydream about my old studios/different climates/different surroundings all the time. But it's also so exciting to frame it as a space I GET to live during this really crazy time: in New York, doing grad school, growing my own creative projects.Thank you Jo for the reminder

Love what you said about reflecting on what each place you live represents for that part of your life. For like 8 years, I was moving either once a year or every 2 years and you can see my evolution and growth if you follow where all I lived. I just bought my first home and while it’s not a forever home it definitely reflects a period of my life where Im ready to settle in and be comfortable in routine.

What a wonderful apartment I loved
I love reading journals of my travels. Its like reliving it. But I'm so bad at journaling bc my mind moves too quickly for the pen sometimes. I try to journal when traveling, though.

This is so funny to me. When I first moved out of my parents house, I lived in Hollywood right across the street from Paramount Studios and my 2 bedroom cottage was $375 a month. No, it wasn't this nice, but I bet it rents for about $1500 a month today. Well, if it were still there. Last time I 'google drove' around my old neigbourhood, all those little cottages were gone.
Now I wanna live in Larchmont!
