The human spirit desire to communicate and connect ... with another human spirit. The spirit is so willing, but the flesh is weak.People like you and me desire to communicate with gods many more children a cross all galaxies. I guess that’s why I prefer to learn all languages in the spirit instead of the flash because you can hold more language data

I RESONATED WITH THIS PHRASE SO HARD and maybe that’s why I’ve never felt tied down to one language or culture and feel fine/ WANT to be thrown into a foreign place and learn their cultures

    • @a.parker7362
      @a.parker7362 3 года назад +5

Ironically I felt that because of being a cultural orphan/everything I automatically couldn't fit in any because at the end of the day I would just be the foreigner of my own community. At first, learning languages was the way for me to bridge the gap but when it never solved the underlying problem I just ended up taking languages with no correlation to me. Such is life lol

This video made me want to cry because growing up in America I saw my family's culture from a glass window. I saw my Brazilian family eating together on Facebook, but never got to know how it was made or understand the jokes said between them. I grew up around my português family, but was not taught to dance or speak to my elders. I would then go home to my American family and feel like I had an extra piece of me nobody would understand. People don't realize how important passing down your family's culture is. I didn't get to visit my family in Portugal until I was 17 and I'm still learning portuguese now (struggling). I will go to Brazil when the pandemic is over to learn that part of my culture as well. I will learn my Tias recipes. I will not stop learning until I can pass my cultures to my children. Any parent who thinks passing on their culture is not important I assure you your children will appreciate it so much someday.

I only speak English so far, but I want to learn Te Red Maori, Vagahau Niue to speak the language of my ancestors and I am currently learning ’Olelo Hawai’i as I am living in Hawai’i. For me, it was important to learn the language of the indigenous culture to show respect not only for the native peoples but also for the ‘āina that I am fortunate enough to call home. Your language journey inspires me to keep it up!

The culture here is obviously very different but the only reason I still know how to speak Portuguese is because my parents only talk to me in Portuguese. This has helped a lot because there are some parents that don’t do this, Im definitely gonna try do the same with my future kids. This is why I want to learn languages! To be able to have more discussions because things can’t change until we are able to listen, understand and talk to each other and the only way to do that is by communication. I think there is so much power to learning languages ✨watching you over the years has inspired me so much and I have also realised I am the only one stopping my growth in learning languages with my limiting beliefs of myself. I need to commit and learn because I love being able to speak and understand others🥰

I love your videos so much, au revoir!

I started learning Swedish on a whim. I was bored, lonely, and confined, attending trade school during the pandemic and doing nothing but going to class, going out to restock food and supplies, and hanging out in my room. Once I started, I realised Swedish folks and products were everywhere in my life, so it felt meant to be. I've been dipping my toes into French, because it's a shame not to know it as a Canadian, but I had to drop it for now because I have returned to full-time work and I don't have time.

I love connecting and meeting new people, and also learning about other cultures. Languages have always fascinated me since I was young, and languages are so interconnected with culture that by learning one, it opens up door to many new things.
I grew up in Jakarta, Indonesia so my native tongue is Bahasa Indonesia, but learned English at a young age (around 5-6) so I speak both languages fluently. Currently I'm in Seoul, studying Korean! After this I hope to pick up where I left off with Japanese & French (I started dabbling and self-taught myself on and off in 3rd grade). Then few more languages I'd love to learn

And although on paper we were considered Americans (puerto rico is a US territory) i didnt begin to learn english until i was 6 years old. Automatically that made me the translator everywhere we went . At the drive thru i would order our food , i would translate at the mall and even over the phone . Wow I’ve also loved learning languages as well. I became fluent in Spanish, taking it in school, and my best friend is Mexican. I went to Mexico with my school in high school, and continued in college. I translated when I had a job at the bank. My mom also was headed to France then she became pregnant with me! Now I’m teaching myself French. Because I want to communicate more with the African diaspora, in which French is a common language. But also as a way to connect with my mom who decided to brush up on her French :) I also found that teaching myself French, helps me with my Spanish which (if you don’t use it, you tend to lose it) lol. But learning French brings it all back.

You just inspired me to go back to what I realized I love. Arts, writing, photography, crafts, language. We often really forget who we are with the pace of our life, we let things go and forget about us. You just opened my eyes and made me take a step back and realize that before work, bills, and all of the stress of the world, we come first. I love the narrations of your videos.

WOW, you're amazing! I'm learning English now. I'm from Russia but I really want to speak English fluently and correctly. I want to know English as good as I know Russian. I suppose that I have a B2 or C1 level now. I understand almost everything that native speakers say, but it's pretty difficult for me to speak without any doubt and without translation to my own language. But I feel a big progress from summer (I started learning English every day on the 14th of July). English is much easier than Russian. But there are so many rools and topics that aren't easy to learn. The most difficult topic for me now is "Phrasal Verbs". I wish good luck for everyone who learns another language. This process is so interesting! (I hope I haven't made any mistakes in my comment).

The past couple months I've been feeling extremely unmotivated when it comes to languages, and social anxiety has very negatively affected my conversations in these languages I'm trying to learn. I hate that feeling of not having the words to express myself and I get frustrated with how I'm not at the level I want to be at. I realize I frequently beat myself up over mistakes and awkward moments and I'm trying to learn to be ok with mistakes and shortcomings in language because those things help us learn faster. Your videos have helped me immensely in realizing my passions and I really appreciate you sharing these intimate details with us. This video is inspiring me to look back on where I started and how far I've come, and most importantly why I started in the first place.

This is such a beautiful video. I first started learning languages because I had to, as part of the school curriculum Finnish and English were mandatory and even though it was annoying at first (6yo me was not too impressed) they have been two very important languages for me to get by and learning them made me interested in learning more. New languages open up so many doors and so many new opportunities. And it has given me lifelong friends I wouldn't have had otherwise.

The Paris story is killing me. My mom has always dreamed of going to Paris. I was never too excited to go there but I got a chance to tag along on a friends trip. I now love Paris and want to move there but I do not speak any French. I want to take my mom there before it’s too late.

I love learning languages because I love traveling and being able to connect with others around the world and also with my friends. It’s so fun learning languages in general. I’m definitely a language nerd and proud of it. Currently I’ve been learning Spanish and Arabic my two favorites and would love to start learning Portuguese soon solely because of your Portuguese videos😩 I loved this video!!!

Totally relate to the 'Cultural orphan' thing, not fully one thing or another. But, as I grew, I adopted being a 'Cultural Nomad' choosing the languages, traditions, foods, values that make sense to me - not appropriation, just respect for parts of the human experience I wasn't born into. I'm not in the US, so there are certain moments of your story I found difficult (hiding because of being undocumented) but love that you adapted and connected with real curiosity, an authentic desire to understand others' experiences through language.

Wow amazing video!! I can relate to a lot of what you said. I work in healthcare and I try to always learn at least 1 word from every patient I meet who speaks a different language. They are in a foreign place under difficult circumstances so the least I could do is say a word that is familiar and comforting to them.

I love what you said about Italian. I studied French and Spanish at school and continued with Spanish at uni but always wanted to learn Italian so started it from scratch at uni. I did my semester abroad in Italy and it's my favourite language that I speak now. It's not that useful in the grand scheme of things but I love it!
