I love gifts that other people could never ever guess the significance of. A large roll of tape? No one would know why that would make you happy without the story. Those are the best gifts.
Precisely! And furthermore, I would not have purchased this for myself, even though I wanted it. I’d have just kept using the tape o have. It’s a special gift. I’m very grateful.
I hear you. I had one of my Grandad's old National Geographics. It had already fallen apart, but it was so hard to chop it up more. But I did, and I made some lovely journal entries with it. I love your collages. Glad you have opened a shop!
100% agreed with your assessment of the Pilot Custom 823. After a year or two in the hobby I got my Pilot 823 in Amber and the first time I inked it up I vowed it would be mine forever. It’s an incredible writer. Great video!!
I have been using Leuchtturm for years now. I prefer plain paper as it allows my thoughts to flow more freely, I find lines or dots to confin them! I do love also the warm shade. Though I think Clairfontaine a lovely fountain pen paper the stark white for me creates a cold environment for my thoughts. From all my fountain pens I actually find my latest to be the nicest match to the paper which is surprising as it’s the wettest writer I have. I have discovered the joys of the S.T Dupont Montparnasse fountain pen, oh my goodness what a nib! I found an NOS smaller one in blue lacquer for a great price here in Austria and took a chance as I had heard them to be heavy pens but I do not find this to be the case, the balance in my small hands is perfect! I’m sure you will understand this but this pen seems to allow my creativity to flow so much more freely than my other pens ( save for my vintage Shaeffer) and I just want to keep on writing with it!
I made the switch to pocket Leuchtturm a few journals after you did, and I thought it would be too small, but I’ve found it comforting compared to A5 - which is what I’ve used most of my journaling life. I can’t say I won’t ever switch back (I’ve also tried hobonichi, standard size, etc) but the pocket has become a trusted size for me now!
That’s so wonderful! It’s a good feeling to find a space that is comfortable and inspiring. I always say, one day, I may switch too. But for now, I’m really enjoying the pocket. :)
The little sparkle of hope is what many of us have been desiring. On your recommendation, my first Chick Sparrow, Pocket Deluxe Outlander Prince has arrived. OM Goodness, I am in love! Also, my Kaweco Sport arrived and the nib works wonderfully. Would you share ideas of where you find your antique magazines you use for collaging?
Because of you I switched from my regular A5 LTs to pocket size and I'm hooked. There's a great sense of accomplishment in going through notebooks much faster and the pocket size makes it easier to do that. Thank you for the inspo!
Been spending more time with my pens and paper to counter balance the news lately. Journals have kept me sane and I’ve learned about pens from your videos. Thank you and please be safe over there.
Getting ready to try my first Leuchtturm. Just finishing up a Rhodia with a soft cover and I find myself in uncomfortable positions when trying to write without a hard surface. Plus the paper is just a little too smooth for me. I love the idea of creating collages for the cover. Thank you for sharing your process!
Just purchased the Sailor Pro Gear and am VERY interested in how you ground your nib to a stub? Do you have a video on this or any information you might offer?
Bouncy floofle-Bean! Oh, I love to see him so much, thank you! Thank you for sharing your lovely magazine and stickers all of us here on the internet. My favourite journals are Notebook Therapy and a local Quebecois Canadian one called Le Livre de mes Pensees in the B6 sizes. I've thought about trying a Leuchtuurm pocket size, and I think you've convinced me to get one. Thank you again for sharing!
Thank you- I've just ordered a selection of Leuchtturm 1917 journals and after watching this, I'm so excited for them to arrive. Also, if you haven't already tried it, give Diamine Aurora Borealis a try. I simply adore it and is one of my favorite inks so far.
Oh that’s so wonderful! Initially, I found the pocket size too small. I was really drawn to it, and tried it, but kept going back to A5. This most recent cycle, I tried going back to an A5 again, but couldn’t! I’ve really found a space I’m comfortable with in the pocket size.
thanks for sharing your planner! i appreciate that you use fountain pens and show the inks. have you tried olive and archer paper yet? i really like the felt coverings on their books and the paper is fantastic. also, ferrets are the best! they r so fun!

A message from across the pond. It's so interesting to dip into your world and particularly at this strange and volatile time. I cannot match your eye for the artistic; I just write in my journal everyday in a variety of colours as I discover more lovely inks. I used to use Leuchteum journals and I liked them. @Julian - Hi (from Wales!) - hope you don't mind me asking, but where are you getting your Elia Note journals? I had never heard of them before but having had a quick look online, now I want one too!
@@elissajenna5938 Hi - at the moment they're out of stock but according to their site should be up and running again in the next few days. I think that's the only place you can get them but it'll be worth the wait if my current journal is anything to go by. Lots of lovely Tomoe River paper, beautifully bound. Be aware that shipping and customs make the price more than you might expect though. Won't stop me going for another...maybe a stock of them they're that good. Good luck!

As a paper artist, I love how people are into creating college, drawings, and jotting down thoughts! I hear you on the election tension. Having a passion for a craft helps one cope in stressful times
I feel a similar way about my Custom 823 although mine has the Waverley nib on it. Then of course they hold a ton of ink if you do the two step routine to fill it completely. Amazing pens yeh 🙂👍🏻 Since your previous video’s, I’ve also bought a couple of Leuchtturms myself even though I’ve wanted them for years. lol. I got an A5 and the Pocket. Thx for the updates 😀 Edit - I must say I’m not a fan of the Midori paper. I hoped I would love it but I don’t. In the Traveler’s Notebook inserts with the new White MD Paper, I always get issues where I have held the page whilst I write, i.e. the ink spreads or goes lighter due to my finger oils that must lay on the paper there. With Tomoe River and the A5 Leuchtturm I just don’t get that at all. So yeh, I’m not a Midori fan and that bugs me as they are the cheaper inserts with some discount. I’m waffling now. Stay safe all of you. 👍🏻
Yes! The two step routine is so good. The whole body can fill up, it’s amazing. What is the waverly nib?? Glad you finally got yourself some Leuchtturms! How are you enjoying them?
@@adventuredenali - the Waverley nib has been made with the tip being slightly upturned. It looks like it’s been dropped! Honestly it’s so weird but subtlety so. It’s supposed to be smooth writing no matter what angle or rotation of wrist you write with. It is very very smooth (not glass, there is slight feedback), however along with that I feel it’s got ‘baby bottom’ issues too. At times on the Tomoe River (TR) paper it will skip. Not overly annoying as it may happen say once or twice per A5 page. But on the Leuchtturm (LT) paper it never skips as the paper has more tooth, ergo it writes better on there really. I actually like the feeling the LT paper has compared to the TR as well. That bit of tooth or grip or drag (Whatever 😆) is really nice. Then for the Pocket LT, I’m getting that ‘new book, don’t wanna write in it’ kinda vibe at the moment. It’s just sat there neglected. 😀 Am obsessed with my Traveler’s Notebook, William Hannah A5 and the LT A5 all at the same time.

I was wondering if people actually takes pens like the custom 823 for a hike. I would like to get a good writter, but if it´s to be too afraid of bringing it to a hike or school, then there is not much point.
Is that the pen holder from the Galen Leather A5 folio? I bought an A5 folio, love how it looks, but found I keep taking the Leuchtturm journal out to write. I started journalling this summer after getting into fountain pens. I got the Leuchtturm because all the Field Notes and Moleskine notebooks I have bleed so easily with even fine nibs. Needs to be a very dry pen. Plus, very little shading or sheen from the inks. What size is that notebook cover? It looks like the A6 just fits very tightly. I’m thinking to use the folio more as storage, and get a notebook cover to use. I have been trying out many inexpensive pens, but I did make the mistake of inking too many. As I use up the ink, I think I will just keep 3-5 inked. One for work note taking, and the rest for journaling. I found that after the working from home got instituted, and my daughter had to stay home, I needed something to use to vent my feelings. Don’t even know if I will read it later. I’m about halfway through the Leuchtturm now, so thinking about the next one. Although camping isn’t my thing, I loved following your trip. I love the west and hope to move back some day. I lived in Wyoming from 5-15, and then for college went to CU, but haven’t lived in the west since I was about 25. Out east, the mountains just feel too small.
Good day! I'm same way with old magazines. I have quite a few old Arizona Highway mags and i'm waiting for the right project to use them. I am one of the people who found you because of Stern and I love your channel. I've always been fascinated with pens, pencils, and other drawings utensils. Utensils? Is that right? Anyways just wanted to say "Hello!"
Hello and welcome!! Haha utensils! I think it works, I say that too, always forgetting the right word. Maybe implements... tools? I don’t know. Hope you find the right project for all your magazines! They’re so beautiful and inspiring to work with.
That’s a great idea. However, I also am not sure though if I want a magazine taking up space either, so I want to use it. I should see about copying it though. I don’t have a printer myself, but maybe a local place could make some decent prints!
@@adventuredenali Or at least just have scans/photos of the pages stored electronically--less space taken up, and you still have the whole image even when you've cut up the original for collaging.
I’m really interested in the tape, as it looks like regular packing tape. Is it acid free? And where where did that wonderfully thoughtful partner of yours buy it from? Brand name? Thanks so much for any information you can give me!
The the new big size tape cover the journal if you turned it so the width was put on up and down rather than just putting it on the way it is pulled off. Just curious.
Ok please please please do a video on how to grind nibs to italic or stub. I have few pens that have fine or extra fine nibs and it's just not my thing, but i don't really wanna buy separate nibs either. Being able to to that would be amazing.
I’d be happy to, but I’m no professional! This was my first time, and I’d hate to lead anyone astray! I used this guide, it was so helpful! www.marcuslink.com/pens/aboutpens/ludwig-tan.html
Just before the pandemic started I was financially irresponsible out of jealousy of your Pelikans and ordered the tortoise brown M400 in an M nib ground to a stub from Dan at nibsmith, that combined with De'Atramentis J.S.Bach has overtaken my 823, it has become one of my favorite things.
Have you considered photocopying vintage magazines, printing in high quality colour (perhaps even glossy art paper) and collaging with the copy? It would save the original magazine and you can repeat it again! I know an illustration prof who makes use of the photocopier to create funky textures, while the scanning bar is moving, he moves the print across the glass, and the result is a pattern made of the same image repeated dozens of times!
As you go through more notebooks than most of us do, are you buying them in bulk (if that is even possible) or do you just get them on Amazon, or? Love "jumping Bean" at the beginning of this video. I happened upon you a couple of months ago due to your review of something, and now you are my favorite channel by a mile. Thanks for all the content!
I’ve been buying them on jet pens, haven’t even thought to look at buying them in bulk if that’s an option! That’d be kind of amazing, and maybe a little overwhelming to get all those notebooks at once, haha.
I'm right there with you regarding the election. This past week has been a nightmare of a year. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the fascists behave themselves! Have you ground many nibs before? What resources did you use to learn about it? I'm interested in learning more about tuning and grinding.
Until you work up the nerve to cut into your book maybe you can scan the images. I don’t know what the copyright is on something that old, but you could turn the images into digital downloads and sell them. You have such a great eye you could easily curate a collection of vintage images. (Ok, now I want that. Lol) You could also take a picture and print it with your canon ivy. The old school way of copying things... when I was a kid, I’d try to tape songs off the radio by holding my fisher price tape recorder up to my parents stereo.
Oh wow, that’s such a great idea! I wonder... so many possibilities. Hahah I love that, it is very old school, just like recording with the radio. I did that too, haha. Would sit for hours by the radio, waiting for a song I liked to pop on.
Hi, When I look for the Leuchtturm 1917 pocket, they add A6 but an A6 isn't the same size as a pocket in other situations. If I order one with this name, will it be the one you use? Thanks.
I don’t mean to cut in here, but if they show the dimensions it should say 3 1/2 X 6. L. 1917 A6 is their pocket and is different than standard A6. You have it right.
Is that a Ferret in your intro? He/She certainly is a playful fellow. In your collection of FP's, if somebody mentions a gusher/firehouse of a writer in conversation which FP comes to mind? Also, don't know if you have ever looked at Dingbat Journals which can be found on Amazon, a bit heavier paper than the 1917 you mention, FP friendly. I do enjoy your informative video"s.

YAY!!! You found some of the super wide tape! 🙌🏻👍🏻👍🏻💙💙💙
Indeed!!! I think he was reading through the comments and decided to surprise me with it. :)
@@adventuredenali Awww!!! That’s awesome!!! 🙌🏻 I’m so glad! Good luck with it! 💙💙💙
That partner is a keeper 🥺💕
Just found your channel and I love what you do. Subscribed and turned on the bell. Please keep doing these journal videos! 💖
Welcome and thank you so much! :D
Cut it up! Cut it up! You can always scan or take a picture of the page first or get color copies done of your favs
Thank you Gina for the push!!! And holy cow, I didn’t know you had this channel too! I’m so thrilled!!!!
@@adventuredenali it’s my old channel, I just changed the name and private most of my old doll videos
@@Ginaisarty ooh! Still excited. :)
I love how you are excited about tape!
Have you had a chance to try the Pilot 845? I wonder how it compares to the 823.
What is the name of the leather notebook cover? I am obsessed with the leather and the beautiful patina! and I must have one!!! Thank you!
That’s from a maker by the name of Chic Sparrow. Are you familiar?
Why not take a print out from one of the many images on decent paper and the book can remain whole and you also get your collage. Love Mand XO
I had no idea they had tape that wide like that!!! Woohoo
They have even wider tapes apparently too! :o
Oh I’m so glad that pen has become a favorite of yours! Dan does a great grind.
I love your setup! Can you tell me where you got your pen holder? I haven't seen anything like that. Thanks so much!
Thank you! The pen holder came with a Galen Leather zip folio pouch.
@@adventuredenali Thanks!!
What leather is your chic sparrow tn? Loved your video.
This was taped awhile ago. Just wondering what journal you are now using in June 2021?????
Have you tried the "Exceed" notebooks at Walmart?
Howard Stern is on air right now raving about your content. He's a huge fan.
😱 gasp.....you have a similar handwriting as I do! But i am left handed
As of you knew what I was looking for the Last few days🙈
Always very inspiring ❤️
Wonderful! I’m glad to hear it! Thank you :)
@@donnadaniels1577 thank you for helping out! :D
I'm not here because its 2020 I'm here because I love fountain pens.
What is your thoughts on Traveller's Notebook?
Alicia, what is it about Montana that you like so much?
Haha HI! It was me that asked the question about your journal! #relevant lol

Those pictures are part of a framing project!
Howard Stern spoke very highly of you..!!
