I agree with you about the beauty and perfection of how these journals are made. I do like the crinkly parchment kind of paper. What a shame it doesn't show shading or sheen, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't want to buy one. I appreciate your thorough review.
Thanks, Alicia. People take a lot of care and interest to buy ink with different shading and color properties...that is why they have to find the new TR. Because your beautiful collection of inks will look one dimensional on certain paper.
Thank you for opening with little bean in the pouch... Made my day I absolutely love that little guy. I may order one of those notebooks I like a crisp oniony skin type of paper and I might just give that a try thanks for reviewing it for us... Now go practice violin or cello 😁
I have some of her Cosmo Air Light notebooks, and they’re so well made. I love them. Onion skin is lovely. It took me a minute to order from her because of the shipping costs, which are perfectly understandable. This paper looks amazing. I would totally get this.
You already sold me on Danika's heavyweight notebooks. I trust you are also familiar with Yoseka Stationary (in Brooklyn NYC)....similar appreciations for the quality.
They sold the rights for TR to a new company which has already designed a new product that is very similar to original TR, though very slightly more rough. There's a review from Inky Rocks on RUclips!
Lovely review! Maybe 2022 can be the year of experimentation with different notebooks. Now you have to make wonderful covers for those notebooks! Looking forward to to your review of the other papers. I got the Cosmo Air Light paper from her and love the sheening of my fountain pen inks. Even ballpoint glistens on that paper. 😂
Danica's shop is phenomenal and I wish I wrote enough to try out all of the papers. CAL is fascinating and so is Tora Next! This new paper though, this I am MOST curious about, moreso even than New New Tomoe River Successor.
I really want to see a head-to-head comparison of 68 gsm Tomoe River paper, Cosmo Air, and the heavier version of this new stuff (Tora? It was in the larger black notebook that I think you said was about 65 gsm.) Thanks for this review, though - I have been hearig about Danika58 and her notebooks for about a year now and am planning to try one of hers when I exhaust my 68 gsm TRP. Update, 5 min. later: I swear I checked her shop earlier today and only saw the Cosmo Air notebooks! Now she has several, including Tora Next. An A5 blank version of which should be on its way to me shortly! Update2: be advised, shipping is pretty hefty to the States.
Hey Alicia So I get my Cosmo Air Light paper from Danika 58, I have had two orders from her. I stock up on things I love. I love it in my fake slim B6 TN, and I think you will love it. Creamy, solid paper, but still thin, creamy and glassy softness. I believe I also asked you to see if you liked it, my comment here recently, I am pretty sure, I contacted Danika58 about your channel, by copying my comment to her! I recently got some Tomoe River, but I didn't know that it crinkles so much. Personally I think the Cosmo Air Light, is really glassy smooth, and really brings out both shimmer and shading. I bought a thin journal with a lovely green in a soft cover. I make my own inks blends, name them and test it on this Cosmo Air light paper. It feels quick drying, and stays flat. So it is amazing. Wet washes, so adding a bit of water to your ink for variation, it still works. A lot of Japanese and Chinese made papers can be very thin, very robust, great for ink, collage and writing. Doubling the thickness of each journal page with collage, while the spine of hardcovers still stays together. No bleed through, no ghosting. This is fairly common. With the history of their rice papers, and wheat and rice glues, I am not surprized.... The onion skin paper looked interesting being so translucent. I was watching another channel and can't remember but she was talking about Tomoe River paper and the company that has bought them out and they are working on a paper that is "like" Tomoe River but we will have to see in time. I have been testing an onion skin notebook but the paper is very thin but I love the crinckle of fine, thin paper. Thanks for sharing with us and enjoy your channel and the star Bean❤❤
Loved this review, I wish this notebook came in the B6 size. I see you also have a cosmo air light notebook too, would love if you could review that when you get a chance!
I was going to say the same thing that was said earlier from someone else- that I think the black ink might be from the Wahl pen when you made the outlines for each ink 🤔 I'm curious to see how your journal set up will be going forward, you just settled into a size, and you basically got an early Christmas gift and have these beautiful new journals to experiment with. I'm also interested in your thoughts on the tora next and the cosmo air light paper 😄
Those do look nice, and there is absolutely zero chance that I..,will not buy a not needed journal in 2022...even though I have 7ish that are still factory sealed 🤣. Take it easy on yourself and don't fight it. That will cease the internal conflict you will have if you fight it. Which will make you happier, and a happier you means happier videos for us...lol it's good logic just trust me. 😆 Great information by the way!
Love your voice and cadence (, pacing or whatever its called) i am very curius to see The heavier paper also. Do they have The same carasterisrics or are they rougher?
Great review. Thank you. "Tomoe River Successor" paper, which is the replacement for Tomoe River paper is already in production. The Tokyo Inklings podcasters demonstrated writing on it in their livestream from TIPS (Tokyo) and they both like it at least as much (more?) than older TR. Jacob from that podcast has said previously that he prefers Tora Next to older TR. Hopefully that will get cheaper in future.
@@jamesaritchie1 Soon after I commented here Inky Rocks (Alesa) put up a video on her RUclips channel, so you can see it there. In the details below her video is a link to Jacob/Fudefan's blog post, which is a picture-rich post on the topic.
Beautiful notebooks! Unfortunately a bit too expensive for me :( considering you also have to pay shipping. I’m still holding out for the company to find a way to make the old tomoe again jeje.
Companies know how to make it, but it isn't worth it. TR was never as popular as many seem to believe. It has too many negatives, and costs too much to make, which means it costs even more on the consumer side. TR displays ink beautifully, but does so by forcing ink to dry on the surface, which is a very bad thing in every possible way, except for looking pretty. Instead of waiting for some new company to go broke trying to imitate a bad fountain pen paper, use of of teh brands that is actually made to take fountain pen ink, and that will last four hundred years after TR has shriveled up, bled over, crinkled, and fallen apart.
This is another weird comment from me, but your skin is so nice! you are glowing! What do you attribute that to? I'm guessing you are more of a clean eater than most of us? Maybe vegan or no sugar type of diet?
I am interested to try this paper but will have to see if I can get an A4, No. 18 size similar to that of my Rhodia which is the only one that I have tried to date. I did buy a Leuchtturm 1917 notebook a while ago which I really like for short notes. After watching you write with Prussian blue in another video I decided to order a bottle. Hopefully I will see this soon. Thanks for all your videos.👍🇨🇦👨🦳, much appreciated.
Sanzen Paper bought the remaining Tomoe River paper and will be producing a new version. They have named it tomoe river successor. Fudefan has a blog post with more info and examples comparing it to the old papers.
Have you made much use of 6mm ruled paper for your fine handwriting? It might be just the thing to maximize your output -- unless you tend to use the luxury of the extra white space for editing between the lines.
I love the crinkly feel and show through of TR paper. I like onion skin too though but it for sure bleeds with some of my inks and i’m a medium to broad nib lover so it’s a problem 😄. thanks for this review! i will for sure try this notebook but i hope she makes some on the thinner side bc i i prefer low page count so i can pack them into my TN by topic
Hiya Alicia, Thanks very much for another great video. I live in England and unfortunately the company doesn't ship those journals to the UK, or some European countries. Oh well, not to worry! Take care, David. X
When you wondered where the black ink came from I felt that hard. I was journaling one day and I noticed that there was a red stain on the page. Then I looked at my hands and realized it was me. My finger was red... I just looked at my notebook and yelled "where?!" I was using a blue color at the time of writing so I have no idea where it came from. I looked on my desk for stains, nope. Chair, nope. Like where the heck did it come from? Anyways, interesting and well detailed review if these new notebooks. Might give it a look now since other people reviewed a similar onion skin notebook. Great video!
