I really liked Paul Burrells book, first I thought it was a betrayal, too but then I got it as a present and could not put it down. It's full of love and respect for Diana and the Queen and very well written. He was a broken man after Diana died, he went to Paris that horrible morning and made sure she looked beautiful before Prince Charles arrived to bring her home, he was totally devoted to Diana. The Queen even gave him a medal for over 20yrs of royal service.

Shows how real Princess Diana was... actually walking down to the kitchen to get orange juice and a bit of gossip or chat... she was so out of her league. Poor woman had so few friends around that she was craving for ANY FRIEND!

I can see why Paul Burrell wrote the book. Look at how he was treated after Princess Diana's death. He was arrested almost went through a HUGE (press convected) trial. After serving Loyally!! Loyalty goes TWO WAYS!!

700 servants & all those guards & security personnel yet that bloke STILL managed 2 get across the palace grounds through the door AND choose the queens bedroom door out of scores of others without anyone seeing him & she doesn't alert anybody? Something seems wrong in that

  • @the-chillian
    @the-chillian 12 лет назад +71

I believe it about Charles' temper. Imagine having to be so controlled all the time whenever you're out, no matter what happens. You'd probably explode whenever anything went wrong at those rare times when you were in private.
The Queen, and anyone else in that situation who can behave themselves behind closed doors, must have an amazingly even temper.

And employers and empoyees does not seem very royal to me, if there is a monarchy you should do it the right way...

Being in the USA this whole thing just seems like one big soap opera. The Royals seem like they don't appreciate the hard work done behind the scenes by all those people. In reality they might actually appreciate but they never acknowledge it. I read Paul Burrell's book and found it quite interesting although he does come across as having a rather inflated sense of self.

Fauntleroy I agree that calling them servants is not okay, but from what i understand the royals apparently don't call them servants, but staff, and in other, more modern documentaries i've also heard the members of the staff refer to themselfs as staff.
I think the journalists making this documentary really liked the antiquated term "servant"

It's my dream to be a butler for a family one day. I felt the anger these servants felt towards the servants that betrayed their masters, and did so minutes before it was brought up in the video. This way of life leave me in awe; the uniform, the household, and the way of life as a whole. All thoughout this video, all I could think is, "I want this for myself."
And to those who say that those who want to become servants have no self respect, i dare to say you have no self respect for wanting to live YOUR DREAMS.

I don't get that impression at all. I would imagine when people are used to being waited on hand & foot, of course there will be one or two who seem to take this for granted. But overall, I believe the Queen's household members are also trained in protocol involving being courteous & respectful to staff & I would also think for the most part, they are. After all, they're not ignorant or stupid & nor are they unfeeling. When you employee 700+ people someone is bound to talk at some point.

"Royals" don't have to lift a finger or basically feed themselves because of who they were born to. Give me a break. I'm not saying they should get regular jobs. But dress yourselves and pick out your own clothes for gods sake.

    • @chocolatcats
      @chocolatcats 7 лет назад +36

oh another YOUNG little Dani and her opinions.....they do lift a finer but some things are just done for them as it has been done MANY MANY MANY MANY YEARS........100 yrs before you were born little girl...................
they do dress themselves but as example, Charles servant (staff yes) knows where he is going and what he needs to look like and what he's worn for the last months!....................he doesn't have time to worry about what to wear and what tie goes with what. Nor does he take his large pile of laundry down to the palaces laundry or dry cleaning.

This entire programme appears to have one aim: to destroy Paul Burrell's character. If Diana chose to chat to Paul Burrell and make him her confidant that was her business. There seems to be a lot of jealousy and envy from some of the other members of the royal household here which doesn't say a lot for THEIR personalities.

I can recall a few time where I swore at some one when I got woken up. When your tired and groggy sometimes you just don't know or care what your saying. Though I said sorry after, since it's polite.

There were no flowers from the Queen or other Royals at Billy's funeral,he had become an unfortunate redundant person after the QWM,who depended on him a great deal towards the end of her life,AND before it too.

Never, never, never work for Royals and expect the,m to consider you in the slightest.
The Queen Mother's butler, who worked for her for about 50 years, and was a friend as well as a servant, was evicted from his gatehouse cottage(in 2003) at Clarence House a year after the QM died!
So much for "noblesse oblige" it only seems to work one way with the Royals.Pr Charles called on him,and sympathised, but did nothing. He didn't even arrange alternative private accomodation.

I am an uneducated Japanese of humble means but I hope I am allowed to leave a few remarks.
Some cry out for complete meritocracy - well, I think meritocracy comes in several forms, and some include the right of descent.
If you accept the right of descent for your family, then it makes little sense to deny the same for others.
The question of "how much can be inherited" is a difficult one - if you believe in little state intervention, then the substantial sums should be inherited.

  • @San47di

Sorry but "Servants" are exactly what they are. I don't know you're experience or why you would feel this term somehow has negative connotations, but in most cultures, depending on who it is you work for, it can be noted as a "privileged" position. I'm sure none of them are "ashamed" to say they're "Servants" of the Queen or the Royal Family. This is not an issue for "Political Correctness" but a Fact of Life. A Servant is by No means demeaning, it's an "honest" paying job.

I hate the way the servant described royalty as being above commoners as human beings. Firstly, The Queen reigns by right-of-parliament, and parliament in this day and age are answerable to the PEOPLE. I feel that when royalty behaves in a way that make the common people feel inferior to them, changes need to be made. The will of the people is who decides if there will be a King or Queen.

This Paul Kidd, is out of line with his views and opinions. He has a problem with coping with reality, rather than living in his world of being a servant that he allows to separate him from other servants. I do agree that servants have a duty to protect the private lives of their masters, however, this one behaves like he is personally offended as a noble one, and even entertains favorable punishment for the servants who strays. I's not going to gain him what he thinks it will.

it is absolutely disgusting that the royal family can dehumanize people like this and expect people's taxes to go to paying someone to serve the royal family. The royal family need to wake up and live in the modern world.

When they say low pay its actually minimum wage which is perfectly legal. Plenty of employers only pay minimum wage

There is no worse betrayal than in a master/servant relationship.

Same sex couples can only become Civil Partners at the moment, although the government does have plans to allow marriage for any couple.

How could you live your whole life being known as a SERVENT. And dedicating your life to serving another person. Don't they have any self-respect?

Copacetic so housekeeping, nanny, gardener, domestic helps, waiters are all lacking self-respect? the royal staff (which they're apparently called) do like their jobs and are proud of working there. Just because the journalists doing the documentary and some staff members use the term "servants" does not mean the royals do. Apparently they reffer to them as "staff"

Yeah but there is a difference between saying "shit" because you dropped something or because your football/soccer team got a goal scored against them. That is different from calling each other hurtful names. The first he would allow, the calling someone hurtful names or telling them where to go or to eff off he won't tolerate.

Oh, Brother! If the towel of a Royal Prince is laid out a certain way, and He has the money to sustain the service, it seems like sour grapes on behalf of former servants to criticise this process . . . as for the gravy badly burning the Queen Mother and steam coming up from her cleavage . . . gravy is treated like a sauce and is never served as a steaming hot liquid. Whomever wrote this muck is truly grasping at straws and has probably never supervised Royal servants.

its not scripted............but yes you're right....he shouldn't have said "steam coming from her cleavage"...he was just adding a bit of drama.................

Sell out servants are horrible people. The Queen and her Royal Family may be rich and famous, but they are born into servitude and are ALWAYS being watched. Imagine going through your life like that. The tiniest "mistake" according to whomever is watching them makes international headlines. Her Majesty The Queen is our leader. She is represented by our sixteen commonwealth governments and guides them. I would be proud to be a servant to the Royal Family and provide comfort and privacy.

Free speech means you suffer no legal ramifications at the hands of your government for speeking freely (though some speech, ie. slander or libel, is not generally protected speech) it does not mean that private individuals, such the person who has this channel, must give you a platform for that speech. Just as a person can tell you to leave their home if you say something they don't like they can remove or block your comments here.
