Fantastic, my first ride into Darwin from WA, to be with my new girl, was in my Holden V8 ute with all my worldly goods and my CBX 750. Large parts of the journey from Fitzroy creek to Timber creek was spent alternating with my mate, sitting on the bike (tied to the ute tray) to get some fresh air as we drove north. Your vision bought back happy memories, thank you. 😃

G,day Joe, another top video as usual about this great land we are lucky to live in, i have watched all of them in series 1 and now 2. At 60 years old you have inspired me to get my bike licence and a himalayan next year and start exploring around SE Qld for as a start. Keep the great content coming and keep safe and well. Gday Joe, I have been following your current trip around Australia and I have to say, it's been an amazing experience to share with you as you have traversed many thousands of endless miles. I live in Mandurah and I loved the episode when you saw our giants. They are pretty special pieces of art. Now I am in Katherine NT for work, stayed in Darwin overnight on Wednesday. First time in the Northern Territory, hot and humid but beautiful all the same. Just learned about that flooding here in 1998, saw the video at the overland telegraph museum. It's funny when I was filming and saying "I am heading home to Darwin" I kept chocking up (like 7 or 8 times), which is bizarre as I was so keen to leave and explore the world. It's funny how the place you grew up in connects to you. That's not great to hear about your son but good to know he is recovering, and with you I hope Larry makes a full recovery too. Thanks for the continued support of watching all the episodes.
Ha! I choke up easily too! :) I grew up in the scrubland of eastern Washington state, in the dry side the PNW US. When we’d return from family trips, I’d think ‘why do we live HERE?’ But I love visiting now when I get the chance. Thanks! Son is doing really great!

My grandad was In Darwin when the bombing happened in ww2 and I remember him telling me about how he helped to clear the bush for landing strips . I must get back to Darwin 😎ride safe mate 👍

Thanks for the continued support mate, I'm stoked you enjoyed the series. Yes definitely should be mandatory. Hopefully it won't be too long before I am back out there exploring.
Thanks mate, glad you are still enjoying the series. Bummer with the weather there, Australia is lucky when the south is in winter/wet/rain we can go north to the dry season.
@@freewayproject as this is not really an option for me, there is still that thing with Europe being relatively small 🙂 a trip of 2000km would bring me to the southern tip of Portugal where the Temperatures are still comfy i'm just caught up in the lifestyle of my choosing, so well - there is work todo 🙂
I used to work for the Australian Landcare Council and we held one of its quarterly meetings in Kununurra, followed by a boat trip from the Lake Argyle dam back along the Argyle river to the town, so this episode brought back a lot of memories. Were your parents in Darwin for Cyclone Tracey?
You would have seen a bit of that area then, unique part of the country. Yes my parents were in Darwin at the time, it will come up on the next episode.
Hey Joe (heard that somewhere before), just wanted to say I love your work. Went back to your Bali tour and now working my way through to the present. Don’t know why your videos haven’t come through to my feed before this.
@@darwininsights442 ah I have already left, I don't live in Darwin any more. I grew up there, so was visiting my dad and checking out the place after not been there for a while
I have enjoyed your trip so far, it is a shame you discounted the sites of interest between Broome and Darwin. We lived up that way for a couple of years and did not see all the great spots. Maybe next time around?
Yes with Gibbs River Road being closed, I decided I'd come back on another trip as there is so much to see in that area and would need a month or more, as I could not get access as I came through it was worth it's own trip.
Hi Joe. Thanks for sharing your trip with us. Are you using your phone for navigation?? If you are how does it cope with the heat and direct sunlight? Cheers. Annie
You're welcome Annie I happy you are enjoying the series. Yes using my phone but i have it off most of the time I don't use it for turn by turn navigation, I check it if I am not sure where I am (that is if I can get a signal in some of the remote places). But using it like that i have nerve had issue with it, it has never over heated (maybe because it is not on all the time?)
In the episode that you have asked the question on it is the Royal Enfield hard Panniers, but in the current series it is the Rhinowalk 48L pair of side panniers
Well, it should be a more capable bike, as RE from all reports have lifted there game in every area, from manufacturing, finish etc... and they would have learnt a lot from the 411 version But as always it depends what you want to do with the bike, I have just ridden the 411 version 40,000km around Australia through deep water crossings, up steep washed out rocky hill climbs in the Flinders Ranges, through deserts, all kinds of off road conditions then I have done big mileage on road doing 1000km a day for several days. So if people are looking to do things like that or even less (mellow trails), exploring, the current model is great and I have had no mechanical issue (so very reliable). I got mine second hand, I couldn't afford a new one, I would have miss out on some epic rides if I had to wait and buy a more expensive bike. I gather the new one will be a higher price (speculating) due to the bike being better equipped. The other things is people may like the look of the old one better, I like both. If I ever get the chance to ride the new one which i would like to, it would be interesting to see the difference, I can only speculate that it will be more capable in every way.
I bought my Himalayan second hand as I didn't have the budget for a new one so at the moment with only new ones going to be available in 2024 it wouldn't be possible.
Nah, that wasn't road work going on. The guy got sick of mowing the sides of the road and decided to just scrape the grass off with a grader... it'll be the last time he ever drives 1000 km with a lawn mower each way
Joe, in the few of your videos I've watched, your facial expression looks like you lost a bet, and the joke punishment is you have to tour Australia on a RE. and the winner got to stay home in Tasmania🤣. What an adventure. We all should do it at some stage.
Thanks for the continued support mate, I'm stoked you enjoyed the series.
Yes definitely should be mandatory.
Hopefully it won't be too long before I am back out there exploring.
great as ever - getting really jealous, sitting in Austria with 8 Degrees Celsius and constant Rain :-)
Thanks mate, glad you are still enjoying the series. Bummer with the weather there, Australia is lucky when the south is in winter/wet/rain we can go north to the dry season.
@@freewayproject as this is not really an option for me, there is still that thing with Europe being relatively small 🙂
a trip of 2000km would bring me to the southern tip of Portugal where the Temperatures are still comfy
i'm just caught up in the lifestyle of my choosing, so well - there is work todo 🙂
Greetings from Malaysia 🇲🇾
Thanks mate, I hope you are enjoying the series. I have driven through Malaysia, I would really like to ride through your country one day.
@@freewayproject wow , that would be nice, thanks again for amazing videos
👍👍
Great to hear you enjoyed it
That was a great video I always look forward to when you post a new video
Thanks Ralph glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the continued support for watching them.
Hi Bruce, glad you are enjoying the series. Yes the RUclips Algorithm is a strange beast, I am not sure anyone knows how it works 😂.
Great following your journeys Joe. As i live down the road from you i would love to check out your bike set up some time. Cheers Gavin
Glad you are enjoying the series. Where about are you?
Just down in Coconut Grove.
@@darwininsights442 ah I have already left, I don't live in Darwin any more. I grew up there, so was visiting my dad and checking out the place after not been there for a while
So... What's on the tele that I can relax to before going to bed? Oh, RUclips says Joe Ryan's posted a new video. That'll do quite nicely. Cheers.
I'm happy you are still enjoying the series mate, thanks for the continued support.
All the best to Larry and to your dad!
Joe love your story and videos but mate.those old skool tire pumps are designed to go on from a 90 degree angle mate
Glad you're enjoying the series.
Not sure what you mean about the pump, I did use one in this episode that i can remember?
Awesome videos mate . What drone are you using the pictures are amazing. All the best to Larry get well mate.
Thanks mate, glad you are enjoying the series. It's a DJI Mavic Pro
Sorry if it's been asked before Joe, what is the bag you have on the back?, looks interesting.
John
In the episode that you have asked the question on it is the Royal Enfield hard Panniers, but in the current series it is the Rhinowalk 48L pair of side panniers
Any thoughts on the new Himalayan bike
Well, it should be a more capable bike, as RE from all reports have lifted there game in every area, from manufacturing, finish etc... and they would have learnt a lot from the 411 version
But as always it depends what you want to do with the bike, I have just ridden the 411 version 40,000km around Australia through deep water crossings, up steep washed out rocky hill climbs in the Flinders Ranges, through deserts, all kinds of off road conditions then I have done big mileage on road doing 1000km a day for several days.
Any plans to upgrade to the upcoming new model 452
I bought my Himalayan second hand as I didn't have the budget for a new one so at the moment with only new ones going to be available in 2024 it wouldn't be possible.
How has the fuel economy been on the long roads?
If I am traveling around 100km/h it around that 420km - 440km for the 15L tank. If I sit on 110km/h it drowns down a bit under 400km
Nah, that wasn't road work going on. The guy got sick of mowing the sides of the road and decided to just scrape the grass off with a grader... it'll be the last time he ever drives 1000 km with a lawn mower each way
😂
Joe, in the few of your videos I've watched, your facial expression looks like you lost a bet, and the joke punishment is you have to tour Australia on a RE. and the winner got to stay home in Tasmania🤣.
Next time, don't speak too close to the camera like you're speaking to a child in a highchair and you'll get more subs😮
Thanks for your feed back.
Great stuff Joe slowly working my way through all your amazing videos. As a fellow rider I’m really enjoying all the content my biggest ride was 6 weeks travelling all over the Good old USA and also being hit in the face by hail storms 😂😂 keep up the good work cheers Grozza
It's awesome to hear you're enjoying the series around Australia from last year, it an amazing journey to do. I have traveled a lot around the USA but never on a bike, hopefully I get to do that soon.
Thanks again for watching
Thanks!
As always thank you Larry
Thanks
Thanks you
