    Is it possible to store them in the fridge the night before? Will the rice turned hard? Or the seaweed turned soggy?

    • @ochikeron
      @ochikeron  6 лет назад +23

      good point! if you mix oil in rice like in this recipe ruclips.net/video/K6qLA7okTHM/видео.html, rice won't get hard! this is a well known trick tho it adds a bit extra calories 😅speaking of nori, it gets soggy anyway if you carry around for over an hour, so i would keep it in the fridge together.

      I use similar kinds of onigiri wrappers and I always make them the night before but my nori hasn't been soggy before. It was always nice and crunchy :)
      Something you can also do is prepare the Onigiti and wrap it right before you leave.
      The oil trick is super helpful though!

      I've heard that you can freeze them and then heat them up with the microwave to prevent rice from getting hard.

    Great video. I now know how to make Onigiri but more importantly how to open the packet. I started eating these when I went to Japan. The 7-Eleven had some great flavours. On a side note I'm amazed at how intricate and beautiful the sandwiches in Japan are. And I lost count on how many different types of beer they have. I even tried a Tomato flavoured beer! Oh, and don't get me started on talking about how amazing the toilets are. I miss Japan!

    When I visited Japan for the first time, one of the first things I bought was onigiri from a convenience store, and it came wrapped like this. Before I watched this video, I didn't know that the wrapper actually isolated the nori from the rice and filling. I thought it was just an outer wrapper. I ate it and I had no idea.

    I love making and eating onigiri ... I only shape my onigiri by hand because #1 it tastes better somehow ... #2 I won't be eating toxin. I highly suggest that if you are planning to use Surrround Wrap to shape your onigiri, instead of directly on your hand ... Make sure your rice is completely cooled with no warmth on the rice, then put your rice on the Surround Wrap to shape ... Surround Wrap has one of the highest plastic toxicity when in contact with warm or hot foods compare to plastic dishes or utensils with Recycled 5 labels. Please be careful and happy cooking :D
