@@Luke-en2tk Hydrogen would honestly be amazing if we managed to scale it up. Problem is, storing it is a pain so IMHO we probably won't see it outside of large vehicles whos size outweighs the drawbacks of storing it in liquid form.

Taking three 20-30 minute brakes on supercharger stations is not THAT long. You'd have to make them anyway.
Your case is extreme - it's like traveling from berlin to paris, not something you do on a daily basis as your commute...
The current UK Government have literally backed themselves into a corner with their loopy loony, totally unachievable and unrealistic targets on EV ownership, by Increasing the percentage of EV's that have to be sold year on year. The charging infrastructure just isn't there and will be nowhere near ready by that date. Then you have the prohibitive price of using these public fast chargers makes owning and running an EV no cheaper and far less convenient than owning an ICE vehicle. Ok the early adopters of EV’s invariably have the ability to charge at home and off the public highway, giving them an advantage in cost and convenience.
Currently there are approximately 10,000 so-called fast charges in the UK against 1.1 million EV’s on our roads as of February 2024. That's a ratio of just one charger for every one hundred and ten EV’s. OK as I said earlier a large percentage of those have the ability to charge at home and off road. But as the market is forced to grow at an unnatural rate the ratio of EV’s to public charges will only get worse, as more and more people are being forced into EV’s people that do not have the privilege all the ability to charge their vehicles off road, meaning that they will be totally dependent on the public charging network.
With 41 million cars on the road today even if you say half of that number will be EV’s by 2035, and half that figure again for those who have the ability to charge at home or at work. That still leaves you with Ten plus million EV’s that will be dependent on the public charging network. Then let's say each EV is charging for just three hours a week that would mean in order to service that 10 million vehicles we would need an extra 175,000 plus rapid charge points. Equating to approximately 275 extra charge points being commissioned each week between now and 2035. Even then, that would mean that every charger would have to be fully utilised 24 hours a day 7 days a week 52 weeks a year.
In the future EV’s could well have a massive part to play in our transport infrastructure but given the ludicrously tight time scales being imposed upon us. it's just unrealistic for any governing body with the slightest modicum of common sense to expect this to happen in such a short period of time.
In conclusion this move towards electric vehicles in such a short period of time is nothing other than a political stunt, designed to make our parliamentarians look good in front of all the green tree hugging loopy loony environmentalists.

The real problem is that the EV market has reached saturation. There were always going to be those who make such purchases for bragging rights and those people now have their EVs. Problem now is no one else wants one despite the best efforts of governments to push the bloody things on us. It would have been far better to go the technology route and use things like KERS and hybrid to vastly improve ICE car efficiency, but no, the green energy zealots had to have their way.
NO Governments DO NOT need to do more at all. The government NEEDS to stay out of the markets, and not trying to dictate to people what they can or can not buy
EV cars are a waste of money. Charge car to 100% then 5mins later the car has lost 25% of the charge. Happens all the time . Pure crap.
EVs are hugh money pits because of the high depreciation. BYD: Burn Your Dollars, says enough...
They only work financially if you’re a company car user, private buyers have no incentive and residual values are plummeting.

Owning an EV changes your whole lifestyle. You gotta figure out how to charge it, where to charge it and plan out your day meticulously, so you don't need to charge it when you need to get around. Add into that people are realizing, once EV adoption becomes mainstream those cheap energy costs (miles) are going to disappear.
It's a great idea . Unfortunately we don't have the battery technology yet . At 18 grand to replace a battery it puts them further out of reach . You only really ever replace your phone because the battery is knackered. Are more expensive cars going to be any different?

Out of these potentially insane 18% I would like to know how many of them intend to use their EV as a second car restricted to local journeys.
I work in car rental. All EV'S were dropped from the range over a year ago. The reasons were low demand, poor customer feedback, enormous purchase and insurance costs and high depreciation. Some rental companies still offer them, but I would be surprised if they are profitable.
These surveys are flawed. A lot of people will say they would consider an EV but, in fact, A) they are only answering the question with accepted political correctness, how they think what is expected not what they really feel, and B) they can’t afford one.

@@Luka_3D you and I are doing god's work aren't we fella 👍😅
You cannot get enough charge from wind and solar in the UK, meaning effective emissions from an EV are higher than ICE. Someone who delivers vehicles all over the country has accurately demonstrated that average journey times are almost double that of an ICE due to lack of operational charging infrastructure , which is unlikely to change any time soon. The lifetime costs showcthat any gain in electricity costs is more than wiped out by massive extra depreciation, nobody buys a secondhand laptop and expects the battery to be in prime condition, for an EV, the battery will cost way more than the vehicles market value. They just do not make finanancial (or ecological) sense for most people.
@@mellarner8253 Nuclear power, Iceland Scotland and Norway have the highest wind potential in Europe!!! And England fairs very well on solar compared to the continent
For me its a common sense move, why would anyone want to pay more and have more inconvenience from their personal transportation needs. Cars should be affordable and have ease of ownership. The EV bubble is starting to deflate, with many people now sticking with combustion vehicles. I don't need to plan my journey in my 12 year old Diesel car, I don't require apps and memberships to petrol stations, I don't even need a smartphone and I can pay with cash at filling stations. I'm not charged a surcharge for using the petrol/diesel pump, which is later giving back to me after a week of sitting in the bank accounts of some petroleum company. Hybrids are a bomb on wheels,, we've all seen EV batteries catching fire, now imagine that battery sat next to a petrol tank when it catches fire
When a hybrid burns it's usually the gas generator and not the battery.
Besides, 200 burned teslas in the last 12 years sounds pretty good considering more ice cars burn each day

@@neddiego2570 Blow out like bombs? Bro have you seen a lithium battery burn? It's not a literal bomb. It vents gas that is then burned.

The sales slump of EVs around the world is only partly due to the withdrawal of subsidies.
It's also due to people hearing terrible stories about EVs, which leads them to do some genuine research and makes them realise that EVs are not the answer in their present guise.
Maybe in the future they will find a new battery-tech which is less polluting and 'fit for purpose'. Maybe manufacturers will produce EVs that are built to last so they don't depreciate faster than a half eaten burger. Maybe Electricity production and the networks will improve dramatically to a level where they can be considered both adequate and unpolluting, but none of these thing apply now or in the foreseeable future.
