My god, Sony you should just go into full electric car production. It could be another massive industry as part of Sony. Clearly this is a car I'd invest my money on!
this could literally be the same as in 1994 when they got into gaming (a field they also previously had no experience in) with the PS1

Seems like a investment stunt like many other EV companies to get more funds from public. Not gonna happen, they have no expertise In car making business. Legendary car manufacturers like Nissan, Mitsubishi, Toyota, Renault, Jaguar, Audi, Porsche etc are struggling to deliver commerical successful EV. How a home appliance company that all ready lacking to compete with Korean manufacturers, going to make EV? It doesn't make sense.
@@ami4302 yes you're right but meantime we should forget Sony is a big company they have potential to bring any Engineers. Also their business model is so unique, don't compare it with just Home appliances. They're bigger than you think.
I really like the interior. I think that SONY has possibly nailed a winning product here. The combination of all their technology and entertainment in a single user interface for the interior of a car is a smart move. It actually allows them a degree of differentiation in what is almost certainly going to become a crowded EV market. Being able to differentiate is going to be key to success in EVs imho. If Sony can actually combine and leverage all their assets.... technology and entertainment/services....with this car then they could have a very successful product. Time will tell as to what happens, but I hope they succeed.

@@hiwasgeht7945 Well....yes and no. Of course there are similar things Tesla already does. Things that will be true of anyone making EVs really. As well as what they already do well. However, ask yourself this.....is Tesla a game company? What's the name of their console? And what game studios do they have? Also, please let me know when Tesla became a movie studio as well as the list of their IP that they own. When did they become a music publisher, and the largest owner of anime titles? Sony has the ability to differentiate itself from say Tesla due to being a media empire and thus having a comprehensive and in some parts exclusive entertainment platform for an EV. That's simply something Tesla doesn't have.
Also, think about it in terms of when did Tesla start making image sensors, cameras, image processors etc ..all the things that are vital to high tech products? Or Screens, speakers etc. When did Tesla start making electronics? That's another potential source of differentiation for Sony. They can equip the car with technology from the wide range of products they make as well as make the car entirely compatible with them. That's not really what Tesla can do given they are not an electronics company either.
Tesla is not an electronics, technology and entertainment company all in one like SONY is. They are two rather entirely different companies . It's rather difficult to compare them at the end of the day. The reason it's a big deal for SONY to do this is precisely because they have a rather unique set of attributes and assets as a company. That if combined seamlessly would make a differentiated product in my opinion. So ....no. Tesla can't do exactly what Sony is doing here because they don't possess those same assets.

@@citizen3000 then that must be some incredible holograms they had on that stage. Because it sure looked like they were there on the stage. Two different fully developed cars. Clearly finished products and ready for production. Clearly no longer a prototype, but a finished product (something does not have to be mass produced for it to be called a product). Hence my statement that they could have a winning product on their hands.
If you mean a product available to buy.....then yes. It's not available to buy......not yet. But perhaps you missed the CES announcement. The plan is to make it available to buy.

If you search around these an audio demo from last years vision s reveal and even through youtube compression it sounds AMAZING. you can even customize the sound stage
Ironically..... I expect them to outsource the audio system. That's the way these companies are these days.
So excited to hear they're exploring a commercial launch, I think Sony EVs could be big. Going to be investing.
Hopefully this encourages Apple to share their car plans too.
@@TiaguinhouGFX It won't change anything for them. Apple reveals products when they're about ready, apart from a few odd misses like Airpower. Sony technically didn't commit to releasing this today, they just said they'd think about it.

It really does. They co made it with Elektrobit (owned by Continental) in Germany. Apprantly many of the employees are ex Nokia people
As a product designer, I love everything about this and the attention to detail, safety and making the video mirrors actually useful (combining the blind spot with signaling). But my only gripe is with the climate controls which seem to be activated by touch. I've seen so many people arguing against this trend and I agree as myself prefer tactile buttons to change the temperature without taking my eyes off the road. Also changing the temp to the right value seems like it would take multiple taps which is not ideal.
Please make this Sony! It looks so awesome!

@@citizen3000 They actually did. Watch the CES and at the end, Sony announced a new company called Sony Mobility Inc. which plans on selling Sony EV cars.
@@Joejoe-dd2sc No they didn't. Sony Mobility Inc is to develop their automotive plans. There's zero guarantee that means they'll manufacture their own car.
@@citizen3000 Their intentions alone is enough to indicate some seriousness to explore making EV's. Of course it's not to the same extend as "Oh, pre-order now to grab a 2023 model!". This is considering they initially didn't even consider EV production during their first reveal

I have 2 Bravias, A Sound System, A pair of MDR-1A Headphones, XM2 Earplugs, Xperia 10II (and many more before that, the 10II is just my most recent one), Z2 Tablet, Smartwatch 2 and of course all the Playstations since the PS1, except the PS5 because you really are unable to buy one xD
Amazingly great!! I own a combustion-engine-powered station wagon. If Sony produces the Vision-S-based station wagon with rear slide doors, users of regular station wagons feel to change. If a concept model of the station wagon is produced, it can change any user for the better world.

We are gradually moving towards those science fiction movie like transportation. I always thought those prototypes were food for thoughts only for the animators. Never thought in my lifetime those prototypes would come in reality. Kudos SONY!💝

@@citizen3000 I think many people don't. But that's also why none of these companies will actually be making these cars. A lot of them are just going to outsource the actual manufacturing to companies like Foxconn. Or it seems in SONY's case to Magna Steyer. Because for sure no electronics company actually knows how to build cars.
The price gonna be insane.
I know right? A lot of us are sick of seeing EV's in the $60k and up range....we wanna see more affordable EV's

They are doing that. The car will be 5G enabled, and part of the reason for that is so it can stream Playstation directly to the car

WHY is the right-side mirror display still in the far-right side of the car, instead of just beside the steer so the driver don't have to turn their head to look at it?
I guess there must be a study about it for driver's attention. It also helps that if you look the other side, there is a good chance for the driver to see the blind spot as you are already looking the side window. Not to mention, it is a current driver habit as well. We should not be messing up common driver habit too drastically as it can affect the safety as well. That is just my guess, since it is sure cheaper for them to just have that side monitor within the dashboard.

These days making EV & AV is easier for high tech companies (Sony, Google, Apple, TSLA, Samsung ...) than tradition automakers because future cars will be more high tech mobile with connectivity than just traditional car. I believe companies like Sony will have more chance to be success in future EV & AV than others because they already are at the top several technology which most of future EV & AV needed. In future cars connectivity to outside environment & AI is more important than just physical components (wheels, body, etc.).

One thing: the custom meter skins might make the meters look too distracting, this might cause some serious issues while driving.
??? It's an option, if you find it distracting then don't use it. There's the solution
I'm just saying, they could modify the skins, so that the driver can see the car speedometer and other stuff perfectly, the main things should have more contrast, you know what I mean.
Yeah, but I think they might tame down the meter skins or approach it differently so you can have different skins and theme, but not putting things like unnecessary wallpapers or animations that aren't relevant to the meter. For the passengers, this is fine already.
Though what I already love about the UI of their interior is that how clean the UI is already. Unlike most car manufacturers where their infotainment UI looks like from early 2000's with all the skeumporphism and distracting elements. Honda EV is also pretty good as well and the new Tesla UI.

Looks awesome. Yet the #1 hardest part of building a car for the masses is production. Most any company can make a nice concept, yet production is a different story in terms of both quality and efficiency.
True. But SONY has Magna Steyer to make it (the worlds largest contract car manufacturer) and now they have signed a partnership with Honda. So Sony doesn't need to worry about the actual production.

@@hershohm I'm sure with Honda actually building the cars (Honda has excellent build quality) and them designing the cars together they should come up with something cool. I would be quite surprised if they didnt.
