For what its worth
the reason for how the inner workings of nuclear weapons can be public knowledge without everyone going into their own personal sun is that the hard part is getting your hands on the right kind of Uranium. It is extremely difficult to manufacture, taking extremely specialized know how as well as extremely specialized facilities processing a fuck ton of uranium ore.
So hard to do, and effectively impossible to do without someone noticing, be it the authorities of your country or more likely other countries, at which point they tell you to cut that shit out. And since most countries don't feel like going the north Korea route, they stop.

A lot of the arming mechanisms were basically clockwork. Many built here in the UK. My father was a machinist in his youth, and one day a young guy he was working with was taken away from the place they both worked at, where these components were constructed, by some form of military police. Turned out the guy had been intentionally building the mechanisms to the wrong specifications so they wouldn’t go off if they were ever used.

I can’t point you in the direction of supporting documents or anything, so I agree, I’m offering no compelling evidence to believe me. It’s just something my dad happened to tell me one time (more than one time, he’s a dad after all), and I didn’t doubt him because he’s not one for making up stories, and as a piece of fiction, it’s not that exciting. It’s just a thing that happened, and seeing a video on Nuke mechanisms reminded me about it.
