IMO, it’s also important to understand the cultural and generational differences. For example, when the older generation (ie our parents) make a comment about weight gain, most of the time it’s a positive statement. It’s like they’re complimenting you for making it in life and being able to “feed your family “. I’d also assume that it depends on the gender. As a man, I really don’t care when people make comments about my weight (maybe that’s just a personal thing). As long as I’m comfortable with my weight (and health), I honestly don’t care what a stranger thinks about me or how much I should weigh.
Thanks for sharing your opinion. As much as we understand where the older folks are coming from, we may have to adapt to the changes of this day and age to avoid offending people. Like we said, some weight gain may be due to medical issues and we now live in a society that is a bit more sensitive and aware of what is being said.
