Since you like the heritage breed livestock, check out the Mangalica (mongalitsa) pigs. Very friendly and hardy, can take outdoor weather with ease, great foragers, and the best part is the healthy fat. The Wagyu of Swine.
You can grow a lot of the things pigs eat on a large farm garden plot. Also growing alfalfa is very easy my 80 yo grandma does it by hand. Amazing what people were able to do without modern implements and tractors etc..

We are also getting into the icelandics. Getting 3 ewes and 1 ram along with 2 nubian/alpine crosses. We currently run a small chicken egg layer flock of 30 birds along with "designer" birds as I call them, silkies and polish chickens 😆
My wife and I have been very hesitant about pigs because of the grain dependency factor. We plan to start with sheep and goats and go from there. Thank you for the video!

You bet! Let us know if you have any questions! Remember to give your sheep separate minerals then the goats. Sheep can’t have the high levels of copper that goats can. I wish we would have found that out sooner when we got ours.

You shared some important thoughts here. I hadn't considered Icelandic sheep but they sound interesting. Have you looked into Idaho Pastured Pigs? We follow Living Traditions Homestead on RUclips and they have some good things to say about that breed.

I’ve heard them mentioned a few times but I need to do more homework on them.

We raise them. They still need grain, but considerably less than a “commercial” breed
