My dad was making rice for dinner last night, and I asked him to keep the rice water, he asked why, of course and I told him it was for my hair, and he said, and I quote, “I know you like rice but you don’t need to drink the extra water as a midnight snack.” I couldn’t stop laughing after that. 😂

  • @fishsticks7609

    Ingredients:
    -1 cup of white/sticky rice
    -4 cups of water
    -Pomelo/Grapefruit peel (One full fruit)
    Preparation:
-Rinse the rice to clean it of dirt, dust, etc. This step is optional, but recommended.
-Wash the rice. This is different from rinsing. Put the rice in a bowl of water and rub/scrub it between your hands like your are washing your hands thoroughly. (Don’t add soap or anything like that.)
-Discard the rice (or keep it and cook it if you like. I know that some people did that, so it should be okay), but keep the remaining water.
-Boil the water w/ pomelo peels (Pomelo isn’t common in the some places, so grapefruit is the next best thing. If that isn’t available, you can try orange peels or another acidic fruit’s peel, although she doesn’t say so in the video, I imagine it would be okay) and a few drops of herbal oil/essential oil (She used Lavender). Use all of the peel from the whole fruit.
    Boil for about 10-15 minutes.
Once boiled, store it in a jar with the lid closed for at least 1 week. A closet would be a good place to keep it for the time being.
    Application:
-Flip your head upside down over a bucket and rinse the water through your hair (Refer to 9:13 because I don’t think I explained as well as a visual could). Give your scalp a nice massage while rinsing for best results.
-Leave it in for 20-30 minutes. The more sensitive your hair to protein, the shorter you should leave it in for.
-Rinse everything out of your hair with clean water, your head upside down like before. (Again, refer to 10:12)
-Pat/Blot your hair clean with a soft towel.
The Yao women say they do this every 2-3 days, but because your hair is not going to be used to this method, doing this every 2-3 days may damage it. Use this method sparingly, maybe once or twice a month.
Feel free to screenshot if you need to :D

For anyone who’s curious: pomelos are like big grapefruits and they taste very good. They’re difficult to peel, but it’s worth it cause the inside is super sweet and sour. They come in a bright pink colour or white colour, with a white/yellow/green exterior. The fruits are usually found in Asian markets and pretty common.

Maby people do not understand what's fermentation is. If the water was boiled then everything would that water contain like vitamins minerals and such are already dead. Nothing in that water can go through fermentation process now. Another thing that everybody advices which I think is wrong is to close tightly the container with water and wait for it to ferment. If the container is tightly closed the fermentation process is not going to happen. In order for water to go through the fermentation process it needs access to air, the best thing to do is to cover the container with cheesecloth to prevent debris falling in and wait for 3 to 5 days, deoending on a room temperature, for fermintation proces to happen in a dark space.

I am a cosmetologist, hair grows from the scalp! If this is going to work, it's because you place it on your scalp! The oil in the citrus will close the hair cuticles so that it lays flat. This will elongate the hair shaft making it appear longer. The average hair grows 1/2 inch per month. Should you see more growth than that, then what you are doing is working. I hope this helps. P.S. It doesn't matter what type of hair you have, any extra attention you five to your hair (extra brushing) will increase its growth.

My hair is nearly knee-length and very thick. I keep cutting it...2 winters ago I cut off almost 2 feet...but now I'm just letting it grow. My favorite trick for hair growth is the inversion method which gets blood to the scalp, plus it feels good to hang from the waist and releases tension. In about a year, it'll be down to my knees as it grows 3/4 inch each month.

Jen_Jen B 🤣 you can brush and shampoo any hair everyday. I am writing this as an African American Cosmetologist. They do not teach white or black hair in Cosmetology school. However, hair theory is taught based on HAIR not ethnicities, racial makeup, prejudice or racial bias or blah, blah. There is no such thing as African American hair. Yet, there is curly and overly curly hair textures which is not race specific even if it is more commonly recognized with AA’s. So, she did not write or imply anything wrong. I am 100% African American and I shampoo and brush my hair DAILY. My hair has been 30 inches and 100% natural at it’s maximum length and no special remedies were used to grow it.

An Asian man interviewed the elderly family and the yao lady showed and explained the process. She showed first wash the rice 3 times and the last wash leave in tight container for a week to ferment and at the same time store your pomelo peels(grapefruit or what ever acidic peels you have)also. After a week it should smell sour. Then she boiled the sour smelling water and added the peels. She also told him this part I'm about to say is very important. She goes up the hill and gather the tea tree seeds that makes tea tree seed oil for the regular people to cook with , but the ladies who grow their hair take the use tea residue which turns chalky and crumble in the water. She said that's a very important step then the ladies on the video went to the back porch and soaked whole head with the water. The video was under calberklay you tube channel and was 3:07 mins. My point is when you did your research did you also find that part about the tea tree seeds.

I watched the Yao ladies explaining some things about their recipe. They use an expensive Chinese herb called He Shou Wu, mulberry roots (at least 5 years old), ginger, dried pomelo skin and tea seed cakes( which acts as a surfactant). The process they make their hair rinse is long and complicated as they also steam the He Shou Wu with black beans and sesame skin to ripen the herb and allow it to have its therapeutic effects. They then soak the He Shou Wu with the rice water. He shou Wu is a Chinese herb known to prevent gray hairs and hair loss. They boil the rice water to bring the nutrients of the herb as Chinese medicine u boil stuff to get therapeutic effects.

    • @joswanbeauty2613

@Vixen Kitsune it is in Chinese. So there is no English subtitle. I was watching a popular Chinese show and they had the Yao ladies explaining a bit more about how they make their own shampoo. So the ladies will climb up in the mountain to find the herb He Shou Wu. They call it Pang Shou Wu, to name it after the surname of their tribe but if u go to a Chinese medicine shop, the herbalists call it He Shou Wu. U can google it. He Shou Wu is known as a Chinese herb to help with hair growth, prevents graying and hair loss. But it is expensive. To get the maximum effect, u steam it with Black Beans and Black Seaseme. They also use mulberry roots. But u can use mulberry leaves as the infamous Empress Dowger Cixi shampoo was mulberry leaves boiled and then strained to make a rinse. Mulberry also has benefits for the hair. They use dry pomelo skin not raw skin. U see in Chinese culture, we dry the citrus fruits skin to make soups as it is meant to be healthy. So if u eat a pomelo, just keep the skin and dry it. Rice water acts more of a conditioner. Tea seed cake is what cleans the hair. So I have no idea how to get this in the West. U might need to get from a Chinese herbal shop. Ginger is meant to stimulate hair growth. So the videos u go are limited coz of language barriers.

@Vixen Kitsune If u want the link this is the video of a popular Chinese tv show. U will need a Chinese friend to translate for u. This video is the video the Yao Ladies explaining more of their secret than any other videos I have seen. So many of the DIY videos out there are not doing it properly in terms of trying to replicate the Yao ladies formula. The whole point of boiling the Chinese herbs and rice water is to bring out the therapeutic effect of Chinese herb especially He Shou Wu and Mulberry roots. ruclips.net/video/OTcfvyYYQgE/видео.html

I really appreciate this video. I especially like that you mention a few times about how genetics, ethnicity and so forth can also play a huge role in the efficacy of rice water treatments. I have a mixed hair type and if I do rice water, it's usually a once a month/ once every other month kind-of-a-thing for me. Just like you said , you don't want to over do it!!!

And today my fermented rice water almost 1 year old and i use it today, guess what, my hairs totally so smooth after i wash my hair... so I research this video again to rewatch coz I’m gonna make it again 😀 but not too often to use this 😀 a little bit tips, don’t wait too long, less than 30 minutes it’s better and than wash it !

I just realized what I was doing wrong this entire time and how misinformation has probably caused extra damage to my hair. A lot of people had me believing that just soaking my hair in it and leaving it wouldn't do damage when in reality I've probably been overloading my hair with protein when I do that. I care an immense amount about my hair and I'm really glad I found you.
