Room makeovers without consumptions are the best and the most real and creative ones, I can relate much more to them!! The room-set-up makes so much more sense, brings practicability AND visual calmness AND movmentflow AND is more eyes-pleasing and easier to clean AND ....to win this sweet corner in the light makes so much dedication and curation to collecting thoughts, reading, painting nails....I love how much the space is about the activities and flows of Julia: this is so down-to-earth and paradise-ish at the same time

This weekend, i followed your advice and cleared out the whole living room and by the end of that, I was too exhausted to move to the next step. The room is empty, so I could not watch Netflix for two evenings in a row, which meant that I finally went to my bedroom early and slept before 10pm. Life changing! I might keep it like this for a while. 😂
My conclusion: a too cozy living room would keep me entertained, awake and snacking for the whole night.

What kind of miracle has occurred in the Winkler family to create four siblings who all seem to genuinely like each other, enjoy their time together, have in-jokes and references and lovingly roast each other but never so much that it might hurt anyone’s feelings. I don't think I know a single sibling relationship that's better than "begrudgingly tolerate" so I am completely bowled over. Like, please teach me this magic.

As someone who has lived in their fair share of fan and museum district apartments, it’s so inspiring to see someone switch up the layout of this room/space because there are 273683 apartments in Richmond with this same layout. EVERYONE puts the sofa on the wall where it was originally because it otherwise feels like you block the porch/stoop door. You can’t live in Richmond without porching/stooping, so everyone feels the need to keep that walkway open. But this shows you can do something else and the world keeps on turning. Porch access still totally realistic. By redoing one apartment, you’ve shown a zillion other rva renters how they can reimagine the same space. Also bears mentioning that only true love could motivate you to drive the hellstrip that is 95 between Richmond and dc. Slam dunk video as always!

The small table is genius, others sometimes don't see it but let's be honest, new ideas always take a while to accept. The best advice is to keep things where you use them, just make them look pretty when you do. That encourages us to put things away to keep it looking great AND it is easy!!

Had a happy accident this morning when I clicked on "my new favorite channel". Three gorgeous girls having fun making over
this beautiful space without spending any money on generic box store goods that make every apartment look like it was bought in one trip to the store. Your room says love. It's full of personal items that have some meaning to you. You did a terrific job of taking this room to it's highest potential. It's completely warm, inviting, interesting and delightful. Just like you three. I have never heard so many spoken words in such a short time. Wow !
Tip .... Place a strip of foam in the crevice when you have an unruly slip cover, it will keep it firmly in place.
One small critic..... I was thrilled with how you hung the artwork in the nook. Artwork should always be hung with relevance to the surrounding furniture and you did a great job.(So many people hang it at eye level, WHEN THEY ARE STANDING UP ^#@%)
But then what happened ? ? You did just that over the sofa. HELP ! Those pictures need to come down at least four or
maybe five inches. They look so disconnected from the sofa. ( Please forgive this tiny critic, it's just my number one decorating peeve and I couldn't help my self, I just HAD to say it. )
Thanks for a delightful half hour. I look forward to watching the rest of your channel and getting to know you better.

I have been so veherryyy obsessed with this series because this is what I have been doing with my mother's house! Basically reorganizing, re-layout-ing, reducing, refreshing...LOTS of deep cleaning. We are both on a budget, but the bigger challenge honestly is that I am currently sharing space with her, and this lady has a lotttt of stuff and is emotionally attached to much of it (to be fair, many of her pieces are antiques or family heirlooms). So I have had to figure out how to make her space work for her in this age of her health /safety & retirement activities, while also not being able to get rid of/replace too much😅🤔😵‍💫and then also try to make myself feel comfortable in the remaining space I have for me😄Anyways, it's sooo helpful to see all your tips in action in these makeovers. It gives me hope we will get to a "finished" state over here, it's been a long process. But thankfully each stage has gone smoother and smoother. Thank you SO much again for these makeovers!

As an artist who’s ADHD this video felt like it was made for me! 😂 I’m the big sister but otherwise. My little sister shared a room with me through childhood and what worked for her was opposite to what worked for me. She gets overwhelmed when things are out. And I can’t find anything when things are hidden. This felt like a good balance. I’m so into the idea of zones. (Keep stuff where it’s used then riding up is easy!) and taking how someone lives in a space and leaning into it. I’ve been working on that because I just moved into a new space and I feel like I’m finally getting somewhere functional with it.
Anywho, good video. I enjoyed it a lot. I feel like if I had seen something like it at 13 years old it would have saved a lot of trouble. This is the first video I’ve seen of yours so I don’t know if this is your usual. But if it is, you’ve got a good talent and skill to look at a space, and come up with the best way to lay it out to serve the needs of your client. I think that you will be very successful and I wish you all the best.

I agree too. I think if you are the type person that knows you will trip over something you will. And storing it under the chair when not would be worse, you would put it out planning to put a glass of red wine or coffee on then trip carrying it.

It’s not always possible but I love that it gives you a new view of the room and of your stuff. Taking your stuff out of its regular context can make it easier to declutter it or find a new home for it.
An easy way to find things a new home (organizing) to ask yourself where you would look first if you lost it.
If you have pets, spray the furniture with static spray first. You’ll vacuum up way more hair and dander.

Thank you so much for this! As a fellow ADHDer, I am coming to the realization that I need to have specific homes for everything I own with no ambiguity about where something should go. This is a good reminder that storage can be cute AND functional. Also, have you ever had the experience of seeing someone in a video/photo who kind of looks like you and been creeped out for a second? I look vaguely similar to Julia (not a dead ringer, but close enough at a glance) and had the same haircut about 10 years ago and this video mildly gave me the heebie jeebies.

I was looking at design books in the early '70s when I was a little kid. One thing they all had in common at the time was the use of reading nooks. Most rooms needed to have one. That resonated with me even then and 10-year old me would constantly rearrange my bedroom to maximize the placement of that all-important nook. I've always tried to have one since then and always get a little jazzed when I see one created. Add that to working with what Julia had and didn't bring in anything new makes the whole thing really personal and that's lovely to see.
