aw!! that makes me so happy. i've been trying to put extra work into my sponsor bits recently and be more creative with them. so this is awesome feedback
I started this video and then paused and asked my husband if he wanted to watch it with me since he’s seen your videos before. I said “Caroline Winkler, the funny one.” And as soon as he saw your face he said “oh yeah! She’s pretty funny!” and sat down to watch :) You’re becoming a household name 😂 Oh and since you’re currently accepting compliments on your new throw, he did say “That is a nice throw blanket actually…”
Now that's a good husband! Where do I find this magical tree that grows men who actually take interest in your own interests? My ex couldn't stand me watching CW or even mentioning any of her content that I found funny or insightful.
They went “doink, they went boop. Doink, doink, doink” I’ve never heard someone else with a vocabulary as non-academic as mine! Love your videos, Caroline! Keep it up!
A couple were helping me take the glass off my old aviaries. He asked if I had a thingamee-jig (common word in Oz) and I knew exactly what he wanted and I went and grabbed one. When I hurt myself, I yell, “Heck a doodle, or heck a doodly do!” if it really hurts. Funnily enough, that one’s never caught on with civilization. 😊
Yesterday I was in the bank when my teller said to another, “Here take these pens, there’s plenty.” I piped in with, “…said no one ever!” Had to make sure I hadn’t crossed over into an alternate universe. ❤
Caroline, I don’t see anyone else doing the photoshopped Before/After reference/example photos, and they are SO HELPFUL! Thank you for putting in the extra work to make your points so clear!!
I'm a potter- I just found your channel and watching this episode & you talk about the "jewelry of the dinner table" instantly made me love this video even more!! Thank you for talking about this! ❤
“It smells like allergies.” 😂 I loved this video. Lots of great tips and, of course, the “Caroline and Luke arranging flowers in beautiful vases” segment was the chef’s kiss of the whole video.
Thanks for all the candid tips and design encouragement! As a "numbers" person, I always second guess any creative attempts I consider to find my "style" of décor.... it's hard to even pick bold paint colors!! 😂 Also, I found it hard to pay attention to the amazing flower arrangement pieces... I couldn't stop looking at your brother's shirt!!! It was so cute and whimsical.... it screamed "I am secure in my masculinity and I can absolutely pull ANYTHING off!!!" LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!!!❤❤❤
I love not having a "design style!" Thank you for addressing this idea. I like putting together pieces in my home without giving notice of what is their style. All too often, people overdo the design style and it becomes uninteresting. I like what I like and that's what matters to me.
Your channel is the only design or renovation channel I watch that makes me immediately get up after watching the video and doing something in my apartment to restyle, declutter, or decorate. I don't know why... I obviously like all the channels I watch but they don't make me wanna immediately put their advice to use like yours does! Keep doing what you do! :)
What I came here to say too. I was thinking those who know are "of a certain age", but I see in comments to this that Caroline also knows but wasn't expecting her viewers to know. She likes antiques so of course she would know!
Thanks Caroline, I have a new appreciation for my mum, an Aussie housewife now in her 80’s who is still doing her Ikebana floral displays at the annual Carnival of Flowers in Toowoomba, Queensland. ❤
I swear to god there must have been something in the water wherever you guys grew up, like you and your siblings are all so uniquely talented, it's insane.
Caroline you are such a good teacher, the way you explain design, makes it not so intimidating. You have such a great eye and clearly it runs in the family!
Tone on Tone on Tone on Tone is so difficult to get right and look good. Most people get it wrong, but that one photo that gets it right; takes stunning to a new level of amazing.
I briefly lived in a small seaside town in Japan and watched a very informal ikebana session (ie one lady making an arrangement for a western florist). There was a lot about SPECIFIC angles relative to the previous flowers you've place. And then again once you have a specific number of elements at one height, having a proportional number at a different height. I remember being amazed at how precise and technical it was to create something from natural elements.
Just here to say that I’m home with a newborn, and unable to move a whole lot and I’m just absolutely binging your RUclips channel while stuck feeding my child 🤣 I love everything about home decor/design and we just finished the flooring & paint in our basement, so I will be absolutely putting some of your tips to use! But I also just love your banter/ internal yet external monologue
Caroline I started watching this episode feeling a little blah. But the interaction with you and your brother that made me smile and your personality and your cheerfulness are contagious and I thank you.
Ugh. I actually teared up watching this. Life is currently so heavy, and I NEEDED this. Your energy + taste = immaculate. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
This was just what I needed. Super grateful to have my own home ( but 100% builder grade ) and as much as I wish was a DIYer. I’m just not. But I can absolutely do a tone on tone on tone and get some of my personality here. I also realize I was doing the scale thing long. I have tons of little “doinks” but I was grouping all together and it looked like a bunch of fairies arranged my vanity rather than a grown ass woman 😂
Downsizing the number of Doinks I have in one place always makes my spaces look better. I have the same problem with the shelves in my office, they always accumulate more and more stuff - nice stuff! - but they look so much better with less stuff 😂 ironic but true

I would love to see a picture! I long fur such drama but alas live with a husband who believes only in black, white, great and red; so have to carefully inset the colour.
@colinneagle4495 When I moved I to my NYC apartment 12 years ago, the former owner had the foyer painted tomato red... I initially thought to change it, but then told myself _"When am I ever going to paint this type of color? Probably never."_ So I left it for 11 years, getting a nice olive green, grey with red accents wool runner, and 2 dark grey wardrobe armoires (that were really nice and not modern looking) from Ikea, flanked in between by a table from the same line. I hung up neat things I collected from my travels and the space was warm and inviting. Before I sold the place, I gave away the furniture and rug, had the foyer painted a very pale grey, hu g up white flowy curtains on the window. I think toning it down and stripping away the personality increased the sale offer I got. I enjoyed it when it was originally the tomato red color that I would have never chosen. 🍅
The whole Winkler family is just over the top fantastic. I mean.....Julia last week. Adorable. I have bought TWO of Luke's honey pots (and the person I gifted one to RAVED about it) Right now on my "to read" nightstand (I'm a little overwhelmed with books on the "to read" right now) I have Elizabeth Winkler's book (on Shakespeare, well, technically, on the scholarship surrounding Shakespeare). I just ADORE Elizabeth so much. Siblings are amazing. Mom and Dad are just so attractive. Then we have Caroline, who is massively talented on the camera and the whole thing. I mean.....come the bleep on!! How can one family be this.....something. You all seriously need a show or something.
I'm halfway through "What if Shakespeare was a woman" myself and it's so gripping! You can tell what a good researcher Elizabeth is, and the family's signature humor comes through. Plus there are so many interesting historical figures mentioned, and the lead suspect for who the true author was is so captivating. This page turner felt like a literary themed DaVinci Code if it was made by a writer with actual talent. Hopefully my high praise will nudge you to move the book a few spaces up your reading list!
@@colinneagle4495 Thank you! It certainly has moved it up in the queue. Elizabeth used to also write for the WSJ (when it was a good newspaper) and I remember reading her even then. But most of all, she's been SO much fun when she's on camera with Caroline. I just love Elizabeth so much. So thanks for the nudge. Much appreciated!
Yes, maybe she means nook when she says niche? I can’t keep up all the changing vocab these days. Words don’t mean what they used to mean, and I’m not that old. . . yet.
I have a heated mattress pad, so with really bad cramps - especially in the winter, I turn on my whole bed with a heated mattress pad. 10/10 Love it. As I've explained to my dad (who tries his best to understand his three daughters), I would rather die from heatstroke than endure these cramps.
wowww that sounds like the dream bed setup. for so many years i would just lay in a hot shower bc i didnt know how else to treat the pain. heated mattress pad sounds like the way to go
Oh yesssss! Our homes are often not appropriately heated so I learned about heated mattress pads a long time ago. Imetec is a good brand here and I put them on all of the beds. Beats a dang hot water bottle that goes cold any day!
Yesssss. I love using them in the winter, for achy muscles, and for periods. And they've got settings on them too, like normal heating pads. So you can have Max level of fire or like a little one or a two. They're great. Better than showers at least, tho I applaud your resourcefulness 😆
I’m so glad you reassured me with the tone on tone. We didn’t do olive green, but a very moody green shade in our den. We painted our large trim with a darker green with the same tone. I’m so glad we took the risk!
Luke is a miracle worker! Gosh, he can make anything, can't he? But for those of you on a budget, or if you like glass, ceramic, or porcelain stuff, if you get any vase that's not clear, and you get chicken wire and put it in the vase, you can achieve the ikebana flower arrangement this way. Rajiv Surendra here on youtube is the only person I've ever seen doing this. It looks very similar.
Loved the creative Brookline commercial. Another youtuber actually read a boring script!..and she is a neuroscientist actress! Thanks for going the extra mile😊
It's funny, bathrooms here in the Nordics are almost always tiled from floor to ceiling. It's really not a bold choice here at all, just a practical one. However, it's really expensive to use really nice or flashy tiles, so most bathrooms are in muted colors and look very builder-grade. I do prefer our bathrooms for practical reasons, but it's also very limiting. I got so inspired when I watched your bathroom makeover, but the only thing I can really do in my bathroom is hang fancy towels and use a colorful bath mat. The rest is just grey and white tile and a washing machine lol.
Every time I see a video of your pop up I think about the health insurance issue - SO glad you got it straightened out with your best subscriber ever. I just love watching you, even though I have no plans to change anything about my house. Great throw, by the way. I'm more of a jewel toned girlie but if I did fall colors it's perfect.
While you are making your beautiful floral creations, I watched a florist on an interior designers site about a month ago, he showed, if you want a stem to hold a different shape or arch or anything else and the stem itself is not holding up under the pressure or the weight of the bloom, there is floral wire that you can run up the bottom of the stem that will help support the stem to hold it the way you desire. I thought that was a great tip!
Sitting outside my work, on a break and this video pops up, then I am like heck yeah, perfect break 😍, love that all of us are connected watching this ❤️
Lol. Luke knows how to enter the room! 👏👏👏 I enjoyed the video, especially the ikebana part and Luke's appearance and work. Those flower arrangements are breathtaking, so is Luke's mastery!
Like most people, I have my *favorite* colors. I tend to use those colors the most when decorating. However, even when I see my *least favorite* colors used en masse in a room or house exterior but pulled together nicely, I feel my brain instantly *_agreeing_* how *aesthetically pleasing* the room or house exterior is, and then almost get *swayed* to consider using that once disliked color as the main color in my rooms. 😆
The Principle of Doink. Yes. This will now, forever and ever, be the phrase that comes to mind when I see that umami detail of a design. I love it and have never had a way to describe it. So, thank you for that. Interestingly …. Serendipitously even …. the vases you and Luke designed (and he so gorgeously executed) are very VERY - Principle of Doink. I adore it. It delights me. I think you just sparked a whole new obsession for me. 🌸
The ikebana vase insert to hold the flowers we call “frogs” your video was very inspirational by the way. I’m renovating my grandparents house and those colors are so warm and comforting ❤ Mahalo from Hawaii island 🤙🏽
This video was so good, all killer no filler as I believe some people... some place might say. I'm also a super amateur floral arranger and I'm loving the teeny tiny Ikebana vessels. ❤
I just recently discovered your channel and echo the praises of all the other comments left below. My husband and I are purchasing a new home and I have already begun envisioning what I want it to become. I had some specific designs in mind...and then, thankfully, this video. Tone on tone on tone! You saved me and inspired a new twist for my dining room! Praise be! My husband calls my style quirky because I love to mix things up. Just hearing you say a house doesn't need one overall theme is still liberating. I have watched too many videos of coastal-themed homes where everything is tranquil and bright. I'm ready with this new house to stop contemplating resale value, and go bold for what suits my taste RIGHT NOW! I can't wait to discover more of your design inspiration!
Saw you uploaded a new video- I instantly clicked on it without reading the title because I will watch anything and EVERYTHING created by you, Caroline! ❤
I will honestly watch your videos multiple times. I really appreciate the inspirational examples you take the time to curate and add to your content. I love your videos so much girl!
First room in your experiment game... Literally describes my highschool bedroom (way back when I had more confidence creatively. Tiny room, each wall, the doors and the cieling were a concentrated cherry popsicle red that somehow had a translucent layered feeling and reflected natural light beautifully. The inside of my closet (door was always wide open) was a medium toned mossy-grey color. The room was on the second floor, corner of the house right next to a cherry tree so the windows would be filled with soft white petals or rosy pink depending on what part of the season it was followed by bright healthy green leaves later in the summer so it became this little lush green oasis for your eye. :) I had a few thrifted lamps with beautiful red patterned lampshades that became part of the room. Morning light filtered through the leaves and filled the room with big sun patches. The light really played off the red walls and had a beautiful effect And also one brilliant, royal blue, satiny lampshade just to throw you. Sounds absolutely insane but it was really nice. Absolutely loved it in there.
“Yay” story about getting your health insurance reinstated and I caught the “pre existing” pillow reference when you segued into showing us your new throw! 😂 Love your quick wit and design taste!
hi! could you do a dorm apartment decorating video? i feel like sometimes it’s hard to make furniture that’s not yours feel like yours. any tips would be appreciated!!
The Ikebana flower arranger I knew in the 1980s actually told me she talked to the flowers about what she was wanting them to do and her arrangements were fun, dramatic and very personal. I LOVE your brother’s “brain craft.” Lots of heart and yes, oak is king.
Your description of that red kitchen had me at green. The movie Amelie has always been design inspo for me bc of the rich reds and greens. Visually one of the most beautiful movies, with every space curated so effortlessly.❤
Caroline you knocked it out of the park ⚾️!! Starting with styling yourself as in your hair & dress totally designer/stylist 💃. Loved this. Everyone watch again! ❤
The one thing I will always consider with interior design is that hard finishes or more permanent areas of a home should be designed with a timeless style. Soft touches can be changed as trends change. Less regret in the long term. The color drenching with tile trend is what made me think of that. I feel like I would get tired of seeing those tiles on a daily, yearly basis >:(
I love love love that you include Luke's work! I bet if he wanted to make more shelves like the ones he made for your living room, people would buy them!! They were SO cool
Yes! Shoutout to the red kitchens, it’s extremely bold but I freakin love it. You’re givin me hope to make other people love it too. They don’t see the glory of a wine red kitchen 🤣😂
@@SunnyGoesIn1D Kirsten Dunst’s kitchen is amazing. Her tiles and the wood cap?? Oh my husband is gonna be sick of me. lol Tan France’s bathroom is so moody😍 great suggestions thank you so much!

Got a great idea today from you and Luke!. Our son learned to turn wood a few years ago & I have several 😳 small, shallow bowls that I couldn’t decide what to do with (other than grouping on a flat surface). But now I just need to get the small flower frogs & Doink! It looks fabulous with the asymmetrical arrangements. Thanks you two!
What if Caroline and Luke created a business that makes household accessories and called it Wink Wink...?! I'd support it.

I have a heated mattress pad, so with really bad cramps - especially in the winter, I turn on my whole bed with a heated mattress pad. 10/10 Love it. As I've explained to my dad (who tries his best to understand his three daughters), I would rather die from heatstroke than endure these cramps.
TIL that was a thing.
wowww that sounds like the dream bed setup. for so many years i would just lay in a hot shower bc i didnt know how else to treat the pain. heated mattress pad sounds like the way to go
I love your approach and sense of humor. I ordered your brothers large walnut vase. I want Ikbana in my new ‘60’s home.
I’m so glad you reassured me with the tone on tone. We didn’t do olive green, but a very moody green shade in our den. We painted our large trim with a darker green with the same tone. I’m so glad we took the risk!
The tile behind you, on the fireplace ❤❤. I love watching your designs
There needs to be a Caroline and Luke show. I could watch you two just be you for hours.
Thanks for going the extra mile😊
im so glad!
I’d love to see a video on styling a college dorm room! xx
Tiles up to ceiling common, same in the Netherlands.
I heard 'you never see a whole wall in tiles' and I just thought 'except for every wall in just about every bathroom' 😂
@@c.s.102same for Spain🤣
Do a colourful gallery wall! I've never seen that in a bathroom, it would be cool. Or get some huge waterproof art
If you have bathroom cabinets, you could paint those! Since the tiles are usually so neutral you can really make em pop!
Sitting outside my work, on a break and this video pops up, then I am like heck yeah, perfect break 😍, love that all of us are connected watching this ❤️
Caroline, just wanted to compliment you on your throw blanket.
this my girl right here
you're a Virgo, this, all of this--the channel, the vibe, the obsession with organization--, now makes so much sense.
Even your commercials are entertaining. Good job representing Brook Linen.
Hot baths help cramps. I hope this helps you. Loved the video!
Lol. Luke knows how to enter the room! 👏👏👏
I enjoyed the video, especially the ikebana part and Luke's appearance and work. Those flower arrangements are breathtaking, so is Luke's mastery!
So very proud of Luke’s many design talents. I love you two brother and sister 🙏🏻❤️❤️
I'm chronically late everywhere but your videos.
Hey Caroline, I discovered your channel a few weeks ago and I'm totally hooked. Love your style, energy and personality. Watching from Cuba 😁❤️
'Look how we lost our minds in the paint store' 🤣
ty for seeing me
This video was so good, all killer no filler as I believe some people... some place might say.
I'm also a super amateur floral arranger and I'm loving the teeny tiny Ikebana vessels. ❤
all killer no filler! wow love it
I just recently discovered your channel and echo the praises of all the other comments left below.
Just sent this video to my sister and she responded with: “she’s so cool and funny and pretty”….and I couldn’t agree more 😊
these compliments are the only comments i want moving forward, ty
The light really played off the red walls and had a beautiful effect
And also one brilliant, royal blue, satiny lampshade just to throw you.
Sounds absolutely insane but it was really nice. Absolutely loved it in there.
Love this…you and Luke and cramps!🤣
“Yay” story about getting your health insurance reinstated and I caught the “pre existing” pillow reference when you segued into showing us your new throw! 😂 Love your quick wit and design taste!
so sweet, thank you
I’m Japanese. I’m so excited to see you enjoy ikebana and adding your own twist ❤ Gorgeous!
hi! could you do a
dorm apartment decorating video? i feel like sometimes it’s hard to make furniture that’s not yours feel like yours. any tips would be appreciated!!
Shoutout Kelly, THE blanket and all the doinks! All wonderful and good! 🌷
One of the bathroom floors reminded me of your swatch art on your living room wall.
exactly. If there were one thing in Caroline's space I would want to change, its the large swatch art in the wonky frame.
The Ikebana flower arranger I knew in the 1980s actually told me she talked to the flowers about what she was wanting them to do and her arrangements were fun, dramatic and very personal.
I LOVE your brother’s “brain craft.” Lots of heart and yes, oak is king.
Pretty sure that last tile pic got its inspiration from Caroline’s diy art
hah wow i totally missed that
Your description of that red kitchen had me at green.
BAH! ok i was really excited about this dress so thank you!!!
CRAZYYYY that with the design game, the red kitchen, that is *exactlyyyyy* what I pictured!!!!😮
I just watched 3 of your older videos, one being the one where you designed your sister’s apartment and then low and behold this new one pops up!!🤩
Very cool that you and all of your siblings are so unique and talented. I know you know that, but just wanted to say it
This is why I am becoming an Interior Designer. Colour is magic!
Indeed. It has the power to transform anything.
The one thing I will always consider with interior design is that hard finishes or more permanent areas of a home should be designed with a timeless style. Soft touches can be changed as trends change. Less regret in the long term. The color drenching with tile trend is what made me think of that. I feel like I would get tired of seeing those tiles on a daily, yearly basis >:(
ive never heard it put this way, but i find that super helpful! great advice
I love love love that you include Luke's work! I bet if he wanted to make more shelves like the ones he made for your living room, people would buy them!! They were SO cool
go Kelly for coming up with the magical phone number!
Love, love, love your support for your brother's beautiful creations! ❤
Yes! Shoutout to the red kitchens, it’s extremely bold but I freakin love it. You’re givin me hope to make other people love it too. They don’t see the glory of a wine red kitchen 🤣😂
You should see Kirsten Dunst’s kitchen or Tan France guest house bathroom. They’re divine, yummy, everything.
@@SunnyGoesIn1D thank you will check them out.
I know, from the description it sounded hideous! But in reality it looks amazing! 👍
@@SunnyGoesIn1D Kirsten Dunst’s kitchen is amazing. Her tiles and the wood cap?? Oh my husband is gonna be sick of me. lol Tan France’s bathroom is so moody😍 great suggestions thank you so much!
So I was over here in Indiana laid up in bed recovering from a lil' surgery and was like, "What will I watch as I convalesce?" I was gonna find a tv show, but then I found your channel, and it was really all I needed. Love this video, love your vibe, love your authenticity and your tips and your home. I love it all so much. I'm semi-new to creeping on people on RUclips whom I find fun and fascinating and feel like I'd be best buds with in real life. And here I am doin' it. Thank you for creating all this great content that I'm learning so much from and for being yourself. Having so much fun. Oh my goodness.
From a former housekeeper please don't tile your countertop it gets so nasty and is very hard to clean v_v
We had tile countertops growing up and yes, maddening. And gross over time. The house was nearly 20 years old when my parents bought it and they changed to granite when doing a remodel about 8 years ago.
I agree. Grout is high maintenance and porous..not ideal for spaces with food prep
Yes, agreed. It's a beautiful throw blanket - it's lovely! And OMG, those vases... THOSE VASES Luke made are stunning!
Built-in niche range hood= “Alcove”?
Little vase devise in center= “Frog” or “Floral Frog”?
I have no words to say how insanely gorgeous your brother is. Love love love the vases.❤
Take those dishes and plop them on the wall. "It smells like allergies 😂" love you Luke
I loved the little vases. So much talent in your family. X
i think my problem with decor is that i never have pretty things bc i just use my clutter as “decor” 😅 but if i had pretty decor it would probs encourage me to keep my shit looking nice
OMG I was admiring that floral arrangement in the background!
"Look at this little cucaracha" 😂❤
I love that, even if cucaracha is a cockroach
@@thegirlabides6851 Right?! It reminds me of "La Cucaracha" song, and just makes me smile 😁
Seeing your passion in what you're talking about is genuinely inspiring
i love watching this in other people. im so glad it comes through here
Can I hire you to pick out some pieces for my home? Totally not kidding
I am learning so much! I can't soak it all in at once.
Did the video cut at the wrong point here? 13:31
Caroline I have never cared about celebrities or idolizing people, like just never understood it, but I am OBSESSED and completely adore you and all your beauty and quirks. The most embarrassing ( that you bravely share) and the beautiful. I love your design and how you approach RUclips. I think we have similar energy types so I think you’re so fun to watch!
I’ve been watching you (so creepy) since the beginning and again just totally adore you. Keep up all the good work you make my day with every video
Like you have Emma chamberline, (??? How you spell it?) or Liza Koshy energy/vibes but more wit even more beauty in your videos. I am so excited to see where you go.
The world is on fire, my country is close to being a fascist one, i want to scream all day long, BUT for 28 minutes and 50 seconds, I know i'll feel lighter, so thank you for that !
I hear you!
same
I know how just how you feel! Best to all of us.
@scan606 Oh no! 😮 Where are you located?
Probably America 😂😂
Got a great idea today from you and Luke!. Our son learned to turn wood a few years ago & I have several 😳 small, shallow bowls that I couldn’t decide what to do with (other than grouping on a flat surface). But now I just need to get the small flower frogs & Doink! It looks fabulous with the asymmetrical arrangements. Thanks you two!
