Sir. This is amazing. I’m 32 years old and I’ve seen a few blogs that have attempted to articulate what your doing. Matt fraction attempted this logic of thinking with Daredevil Born Again. But this is something else.
Very kind of you to say, thanks. I was early on inspired by comics critique by writers like R.C. Harvey. I'd recommend Art Spiegelman & Co.'s treatise on Master Race, if you can track it down, or I can email you a PDF. Much of comics channels tend to be fanboy-ish, which have their place, but I'm after another angle. Check out Elsa Charretier's Case Studies on her RUclips Channel, and Strip Panel Naked - both are doing great stuff.
I've made a few since you made this comment, and am back at producing episodes. You'll notice a rebranding, and TOTHcentric episodes will be rolled out.
Your page/panel analysis are for me the most valuable episodes on the site. Note the sky piece of the roof hatch on page 2 is a Batman trope and the right dark edge of that hatch completes the trapazodial shape of bottom center element, possibly justifying the reverse texts, while the upper right forms a graphical checkmark. THX !!!
Blink and you would have missed it: issue 67 of Eerie Magazine on page 4 has a one page article featuring Toth’s process for this page, including layout/pencils, etc…. The art is so tiny it’s a crime but nonetheless a very rare and invaluable look into Toth’s working methods…!
I would like to know what you think about the weird shading around the first running figure's legs. It is a purely decorative effect, I guess, so what does it represent? Have you tried to see what the page looks like? I also think that when you mention something like the black text boxes, you may show us what it would look like with those not inverted. I think the one connected to the climning figure does actuall help, but I think you are right aout the totallity of it.
I think that shading near the running leg is for movement or to soften a high contrast sharp edge as the leg would meet the other panel - would attract too much attention.
Indeed! Toth is among the best comics letterers ever. I'm also partial to the lettering of George Herriman, Abe Kanegson, Walt Kelly, John Workman and William Van Horn.

Please keep making content! Toth and all! Love every bit of this.

Glad you find those particular episodes useful, and thanks for saying so. Nice point you made. Keep up drawing! More episodes soonish...
That's awesome. Thanks
Thank you, Filipe!

Never knew that - I'll try & track it down. Of course, Todd, I wouldn't balk if you emailed me a scan ; ) alextothindepth@gmail.com
Wonderful! I’ve tried to send you stuff before and apparently didn’t have the right address, thank you! :)
@@toddblackwood129 Oh, sorry I missed previous attempts. paul@opaulo.com works, too, but if you've used it, maybe Junk snagged it.
Thanks! I happen to have this issue for years and never realized it had such treasure hidden inside!
@@rbcchan - You knew of the story, yeah? But didn't know it was in that issue you already owned?
so DOPE!
Toth is dope as heck.
