Personally I'd include the late great *Kathi McDonald* in that group! / *"Long John Baldry Live in Germany 1993 Insane Asylum"* / / *"Long John Baldry Band, featuring Kathi McDonald, 1993, Hamburg Germany"* /
This cut almost melts the furniture !! Aretha brings it home and to everyone’s shock with musicians that were white (and funky). AGAIN, good music knows No Color!!
Aretha sings from the pit of her soul, her having a baby at 12yrs old and her second child at 14yrs old...you can hear the pain and the struggles she went through in her voice, that was the way she expressed herself is through her singing from the depths of her soul..literally you can feel every note she sings because it's coming from a deep and sometimes dark place!!
Love watching how much the two of you are enjoying the Queen of Soul. She is one of my all time favorite female singers. She owned the 60s and had hits in several decades. Just love her voice. Thank you for your great reaction. 👏👏❤️
Aretha has a range that is unmatched!! Artists from that era had a soul in their vocals that we will never hear again, we need to cherish these gems!💎My favorites by her are I never loved a man and daydreaming 😊
Ok, now youre talking to me. omg I love this song and love Aretha!! Look for the longer version where she sings a verse first and more lyrics. Asia is right about more lyrics. I could listen to Aretha , all day long! ✌
Classic. If you grew up anywhere near Detroit, you would definitely know and love only this version. I was a child living just south of Detroit and I sang it all the time, couldn't help but move and knew all the words by heart. Great powerhouse.
Aretha Franklin had the most naturally soulful voice I’ve ever heard. Glad y’all reacted to her. And, I saw that Muscle Shoal documentary too. Very informative. I never heard anything about their name before, except for in the song “Sweet Home Alabama”. Love the shirt brother.
So glad did this one :) I agree it's up at the top of all her hits. It reminds me how precise her timing and inflection was. Try her singing "Bridge Over Troubled Water". Just her amazing voice and her piano playing.
So glad you guys watched that documentary on Muscle Shoals ! That was amazing !! Asia do you know who else covers this song and literally tears it up ? One of your favorites ... Eva Cassidy !
My favorite 2 Aretha songs were the double-sided hit singles from 1968: "Since You've Been Gone" and "Ain't No Way", which was written by her sister, Carolyn. "Ain't No Way" is on my Top Ten All-Time Songs list. Highly recommended.
Also, Chain Of Fools was recorded AFTER the Muscle Sholes altercation. Chain Of Fools was recorded on Aretha’s third studio album for Atlantic Records Aretha Franklin “Lady Soul”.
She is the queen of soul... Here's another great suggestion and her name is Debbie Gibson and the song is called Foolish beat official music video and another great artist Martika and the song is called Toy Soldier official music video... Both have great voices and great lyrics... But the Martika video make sure it's not the live version but the official music video which is 4:54 second's trust me you'll be surprised who used this beat again... But this is the original hit and lyrics by Martika...
You have to watch some of these songs live even if not for your channel just so you can see the choreography for these various soul songs that you’ve been listening to.
One my first albums bought back in the day and many more followed. She was also a civil rights icon who met with MLK and others and contributed in many ways. Next from her R-E-S-P-E-C-T, Rock Steady, Day Dreamin 🔥
Love Aretha Franklin!! There is a really cool video of her doing “Rock Steady” on the tv show Soul Train. Gotta be from late 1970’s. Check that one out if you can! 😉👍
Have y'all done "rock steady"? "Do right woman, do right man"? Lots of good Aretha. My first memories of Aretha Franklin is one of my older sisters. She'd come in from work and be on the phone for hours. House foggy with smoke (different time then) and listening to Aretha Franklin songs in the background. For a while we had some cousins stay with us, and one of my female cousins would do the same thing.
Aretha had such a nuanced style and I was totally caught up in that as a teenager in the 60s, she'd just slide through her songs and pull you along with her! 🎶Love💖
Next time listen to the version of this song by TANK, the NWOBHM band. Other suggested TANK songs: "Just Like Something from Hell" "Hot Lead, Cold Steel" "This Means War" "Laughing in the Face of Death" "(If We Go) We Go Down Fighting" "I (Won't Ever Let You Down)" "Echoes of a Distant Battle" "Too Tired to Wait for Love" "Kill" Happy tunes for the whole family! 😄
At first you think that now she knows about the other women, she’s going to leave him. But, that next part lets you know she hasn’t broken free of those chains just yet. It’s a story that those on the outside see and think, “Leave him, he’s no good for you.” She just can’t break away, though. Not yet. Thanks for this reaction. You definitely picked up on the nuances of Aretha’s message through her style. She gives a master class here.
OMG, youre batting 1000 today!!! This song is one of my favorite Aretha songs!!! Give me those bluesy songs any day....❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. That was a fantastic documentary!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
It's not a cover Aretha recorded the song 1st in 1968, Carol King co-wrote it and did a version for her I think 1971 album Tapestry but Aretha is the original recorder of Natural Woman.
Dan Akroyd said when shooting Think with her in The Blues Brothers they discovered that she never sings a song the exact same way twice......she always changes it up a little each time...might be why Asia thought it was sang different than this.
We need more reactions to this kind of music. Aretha, Tina Turner, Gladys Knight, Sarah Vaughn all amazing voices.
Personally I'd include the late great *Kathi McDonald* in that group!
/ *"Long John Baldry Live in Germany 1993 Insane Asylum"* /
/ *"Long John Baldry Band, featuring Kathi McDonald, 1993, Hamburg Germany"* /
Agree 💯
I would like to add Ella Fitzgerald, to your list👍🏿
Often imitated, but never duplicated. No one can do it like she did. 🔥🥰
Amen
This cut almost melts the furniture !! Aretha brings it home and to everyone’s shock with musicians that were white (and funky). AGAIN, good music knows No Color!!
The mighty Swampers.

Aretha was a fantastic singer.
Asia has a good voice, too
The Queen Of Soul Forever!!❤️🔥❤️💥💯
"She's singing this from the pits of her soul"... hence why she is called The Queen of Soul!!! 😀 R.E.S.P.E.C.T.!!!
Aretha is unmatched. That is all.
Oh MAN! I am soooooo lucky. Born at the right time. Got to grow up listening to all the GREATS

They called her the Queen of Soul for a reason. She was the best.
Classic. If you grew up anywhere near Detroit, you would definitely know and love only this version. I was a child living just south of Detroit and I sang it all the time, couldn't help but move and knew all the words by heart. Great powerhouse.
YESSSS!!! SANG IT ASIA!!!

Aretha was THE queen of soul.
This is really a R&B song with a solid rock beat.
From her great classic album Lady Soul.
One my first albums bought back in the day and many more followed. She was also a civil rights icon who met with MLK and others and contributed in many ways. Next from her R-E-S-P-E-C-T, Rock Steady, Day Dreamin 🔥

And THAT'S why she is called the Queen of Soul, y'all.
The Queen!!!
My favorite Aretha song by a large margin...It's even got Asia doing a little bit of the Wednsday dance. 😉👍👍
The incomparable and great soulfulness of Aretha Franklin.
Wow love Aretha Franklin ❤️. Detroit motown baby ✌️🎵🌞😊
Thats old school real Soul and R & B
Aretha had such a nuanced style and I was totally caught up in that as a teenager in the 60s, she'd just slide through her songs and pull you along with her! 🎶Love💖

Her Majesty, the Queen! She couldn't be anything but fantastic!
Asia you got a GREAT voice !
The Queen of Soul for rightful reasons
Asia & BJ, you’ll Love her "Respect", "Spanish Harlem" and “Until You Come Back To Me”!!!! “Until You Come Back To Me” was written by Stevie Wonder!!
Lyrics to the songs are a must for me. It puts the song into a whole new perception. Thanks for this again guys.😃
TQOS she does an incredible job of covering The Weight with Duane Allman by The Band. Well worth a listen

Recorded Aretha is amazing. But live Aretha is astonishing. Just watch Amazing Grace to see what I mean.
Becoming the Queen
Lord, Asia, you got a beautiful voice too.

OMG, youre batting 1000 today!!! This song is one of my favorite Aretha songs!!! Give me those bluesy songs any day....❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. That was a fantastic documentary!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Aretha has a good cover of Carol King's song, "Natural Woman."
It's not a cover Aretha recorded the song 1st in 1968, Carol King co-wrote it and did a version for her I think 1971 album Tapestry but Aretha is the original recorder of Natural Woman.
You need to react to Ceelo Green live at Daryl's house singing I Can't Go For that. Incredible music.
CORRECTION .... Muscle Scholes IS a WELL KNOWN back-up band used in a RECORDING STUDIO. They have been used by the best ever performers.
Muscle Shoals is the place and studio. The band was the Swampers.
Good vibe song
Stellar!
PS - sing it, Asia! 👍
Dan Akroyd said when shooting Think with her in The Blues Brothers they discovered that she never sings a song the exact same way twice......she always changes it up a little each time...might be why Asia thought it was sang different than this.
FTR, I am a retired professional music critic with 45 years experience.
That voice!
Great reaction comments, BJ!!
Aretha Franklin was the Undisputed Queen of Soul...she was in my time. I loved this lady..
The Swampers at their finest.
Aretha Franklin was the Queen Of Soul. Continue to RIP!
One of my favorites, this single was released in 1967! 🎶🎵
This was not recorded at Muscle Shoals...it was recorded in New York with many Shoals performer flown up for sessions.
Listen to RESPECT, her attitude does a 360 and she tells the loser off.
You should check out this version of Chain of Fools by Little Caesar, rocking
