The No Mercy cart is so expensive because it's a non-glitched version. Most of the copies of No Mercy had a glitch where it could reset your save data. THQ added a '-1' at the end of the label so you'd know you have a non-glitched version. Because this came out so late in the run, it's a rare copy. It's still overpriced on their site, most of them go for about $300 on the good ol' eBay.
I managed to taken a look at the website, they did showed the price for Tales of Destiny on PS1 at around $480 and Tales of Destiny II (Eternia) around at $350. Those are still way too expensive for me for getting a single game. I did saw some Tales of Destiny I PS1 copies were selling around $99 to $200 and above and also, I did managed to bought Tales of Phantasia GBA copy at $59.99 from a Retro Game Store, but it listed in the website as $99. (That was the most expensive GBA copy I got) Good thing I managed to buy the GBA copy at the Retro Game Store in Oregon in my vacation. By the way, I hope that you'll get better soon from your sickness.
Sir please take care yourself thank you for your streams the games that you pick up reminds me of my childhood the good times keep up the good work God bless you and your family
Feeling better already! That's the problem with me, unless I'm rolling a 102 or higher temperature, I feel fine, I'm just congested and my head feels 100 lbs heavier than it usually is (and I've got a big head to start)
I'll never pay retail for anything. I came from the days of buying games for less than $5 at flea markets and yard sales. I'll emulate before I pay those insane prices
Thanks for the upload, John! Get well soon, even if you aren't feeling sick currently! Your videos have helped me through a tough time and I appreciate you more than you know.
The best move for sellers is to stay put when they know they can sell it and the best move for buyers is to walk away if they don't agree with the price. People get upset when the leverage of getting what they want is not with them.
DK Oldies makes very good and informative TikTok videos, but their prices are commonly in scam territory. Almost predatory for some of the more expensive titles too.
@@dragongamer2670 Yeah. It was just another attempt to bring people in on "deals". Considering that they pay people who sell them their stock 10-20% of the going value, they are practically scamming on both ends.
I got an N64 from DK Oldies a little over 12 years ago. Console came without the jumper pack required to play anything and the controller had a bad stick.
I’ve bought from them a couple times(years ago mind you. Back when old games didn’t cost more than gold bars). Replacing original Gameboy games I regrettably traded back in the day. The games I got were cheap loose carts but their prices overall are higher than most. I guess it really depends on how bad you want something for some of their stock.
Last couple times I looked at Lukie games they've been overpriced too used to buy from them years ago but their prices have been just as bad lately ebay has the best online prices
I love the videos they make. They clean, test and make sure everything is 100% legit. But as a collector, I can do all that other stuff myself. So I look for cheaper prices. Some people may not want to deal with cleaning and what not. So they pay for convenience. Plus they have employees who are the ones cleaning, repairing and testing. That comes at a cost. Get well soon.
Ive actually been robbed by dkoldies on ebay. It was my second sale and i didnt know to buy a tracking number. Long story short they lied got n64 24 games for free and a week later i saw my strategy guide with odd ball link sticker on it for sell on there. Id honestly like to fight that goofball in the videos.
I feel like they’re Amazon prices without “Amazon”I guess they don’t want to go through the 3rd party to sell stuff but idk some stuff is over price but if you have something that is selling faster then you can keep in the shop of course you’re going to price it up a little to keep the demand in stable order but that’s just my opinion, a person opinion. Me,myself and I
I recently bought triples of a cheaper game. One locally from a used game store, one from DKoldies, and one from a pawn shop that does take such things. The pawn shop one was the best quality, cheapest, and had a manual with it, the other local one was okay. the DK oldies was decent condition and nothing to complain about but was $20, compared to the $10 or 15 from the other places. The NES screws I added to the order and was. Good idea, I also got replacement pin set, and needed the screws and didn’t realize it.
A couple days ago I bought the Nintendo Entertainment System Action Set complete in box for 175.00$. It still has the original Target price sticker of 99.99$
Just so you know when you see the games (games only) with the price crossed out, it means that the price for the cosmetically flawed cart, their actual price is the one in black. For example, a good copy of golden eye it's 69 not 38. Just an fyi.
Yes I still have Castlevania Bloodlines in the orginal case! And I can't believe that their selling it for 389.00 Amazing game excellent graphics and an amsome soundtrack!
I have seen both sides to this argument with them and even ordered from them 3 times first 2 times where great 3rd time was a nightmare and customer service was nice but unhelpful, so I'm stuck with a game that makes it too the load menu and name input but then freezes up. The only way they would take it back was for me to pay return shipping and a restocking fee which would have been more than I paid for the game.
DK Oldies has purchased games off my EBay store. A few year back the shipped them to DK Oldies now they have the name as something else to try and discuss the business.
5:30 that annoyed me as well. If they are charging top dollar then atleast show the picture of the actual item. I realize that's a lot of extra work for the amount of products they have but I think it's reasonable.
I've bought from DK Oldies twice. In both cases the items shipped fast, were super clean in were in better condition than I expected. I have no complaints or problems with someone willing to pay a few bucks more for the piece of mind they provide. Just my opinion.
testing and cleaning are done at most shops now....shops that sell the same games for less....online and local. plus 10 minutes of education you can figure out how to open the carts and system to igure out the authenticity. lots of repros out there
I bought one game from DK oldies and these was back in 2005. It was NBA in the zone for PS1 complete. Yes I paid 25 bucks, but the game was in excellent shape.
The red price is the lowest of offerings for that particular item. So let's say they have multiple versions of a PS1 game. They will have the red price if it was just the game and no case. Game with case. Then two versions of that if it was a greatest hit or not. Complete in box and two versions of that as well. So whichever is the most expensive will be the black price and the red is the cheapest of the selection.
I've had no problems with this site. In one order I did not receive an item in the package. Sent them a picture of the shipping receipt via email of the order. Next few days boom, the missing item. I have no complaints.
The prices are pretty high, but I did order a PS1 Dualshock, and the thing was practically brand spanking new. Sticks and buttons were tight, it was immaculately clean, and the cord showed absolutely zero sign of stress or age. I may not buy games from them, but the hardware was worth it.
I've bought from them before and had a very positive experience. I had a bunch of garbo games no one wanted that I traded into them and got store credit, which I used to buy MKart 64. While it sucks that you can't see the cart you're getting..it was super clean and it works great. The price was a tad higher than my local retro store (shout out to Lost Levels Claremont, CA), but since I was trying to get rid of a lot of games I bought off Offer Up to get a couple titles I really wanted and I tried to trade them in elsewhere and was told nope..I can't really complain. My review- Pro: awesome to ditch some essentially worthless games at you got in a not so great lotted deal. Games are clean and work great. Customer service is excellent! Con: prices are either right at market value or a bit higher. Hope you feel better man! If you can get someone to do a sick person run for you, I highly recommend Airborne gummies. They really help kick the ol immune system in gear. I even used those with Covid..helped me bounce back quicker than I thought I would coming off oxygen.
Dkoldies really benefited off the pandemic. There's countless videos of how their prices aren't just for profit and inflated. The price on systems and some games are so insane. The biggest issue they cause is they make it insanely hard for people to go to other places for a better prices because they charge so much. People don't want bidding wars, some can't go to garage sales, and conventions don't happen in certain areas. Yeah you can blame the buyer but when the seller is affecting the market you have to spread the blame
Yeah people often get mad at people like me for creating a digital archive of games I'd more than likely play at some point. The thing is both physical and digital decay around the same time. I do that because honestly there are plenty of games that i like, and even more that i will probably enjoy because I've never seen. I don't have enough time in the day the play through all of them, however i don't need to be spending money regularly for me games that don't catch my eye either. I also focus on indie games, because they're more creative than AAA titles or flagship titles anymore. I also do that because i don't have enough space in my house for physical collections and the collections i do have, i find more valuable.
@@JohnRiggs the case was shattered and they taped it together. It was in a good 6-7 pieces. I bought it cosmetically flawed. Last time I did that. I’ve always been happy with all my other purchases. Bought quite a bit from them
At the end of the day dkoldies is it’s own but it new self hosted ebay store with a social media team . I sold an n64 for under 60 dollars on ebay the other mont h plus shipping .
as a small business owner i would say if you have a problem with the prices then you should shop somewhere else. DK oldies is not in business to sell games on the cheap. You want good deals then get up early and do the garage sale thing. If you want a clean perfectly working game with a solid backing...go to DK Oldies
I haven't bought DKO website for quite a long time I bought Sega Genesis box only for decent price. But overall I never bought the systems bundles or actual games some of the prices on them I do not a big fan of and you got to be careful what you're buying because of shipping or taxes. Hope you get well buddy.😉👍
I thought DKO prices were waytoo high, but when I went to find a bunch of popular Atari 2600 games and found they were the cheapest place to get what I wanted.
Just bought a good condition cartridge of Star Raiders from them the other day for $0.99, they only wanted $0.79 for a cosmetically flawed one. Their 2600 prices are honestly incredible
Their prices are high. Lots of games out of stock. Nothing against them or anything. It seems like alot of people are personally upset here though lol. However, I have to say John Riggs when I went to down Greenville for the game convention DK Oldies had a game online for PS2 that I couldn’t find at the entire convention or any store I visited in NC , SC, or Florida in September. for $13 and free shipping. I have to give them that credit.
Nice, lazy Sunday afternoon video. I keep seeing all these games that I have had complete and in pristine condition since I was a kid (benefits of being an old man). I see what they’re selling for and I get excited. Then I realize I’m not willing to part with my collection and come back down to Earth. Why sell Moonwalker when I’m just going to want it back in a few months? Whenever I talk about buying old games, there’s always one wet blanket to call me stupid for not just downloading the roms. On the one hand, I find piracy frustrating. On the other, if it wasn’t for the pirates essentially removing themselves from the ‘demand’ side of the market, the prices for retro games would be even higher. Like, if having the physical game was the ONLY way to play these great games, I can’t imagine what they would cost.
I don't see the point in owning the vanilla version of the US port of Shining Force III for Sega Saturn anymore. The fan translation for all 4 discs is the complete experience and then some and has already been made into repros for all regions.
I have an NES and SNES mini and both were professionally modded they both have all the games on there that were released in North America got them both on E-bay from a professional seller so I’m glad i don’t have to buy there nes and snes games individually 😊
I work at a retro video game store and do online selling on Amazon. Compared to some of the stuff I see on a daily basis, their prices aren't TOO AWFUL. Yes, some of it is definitely on the higher end, but the more common stuff really is a fair price! They are definitely cashing in on the rare titles, but if people are buying those games at those prices then there is no reason they shouldn't be listing them so high. *shrug*
If you are new to buying retro games or whatno do your research!!! DK should inspire everyone to do research because of their prices. Too high! Their 120 day is bs and you won’t see a dime back! You’ve been enlightened!
It's too bad that you're sick John. But if there's any consolation to be had here, it's that your low sickly voice gives this video a kind of "smooth jazz radio" feel to it, if that makes any sense, lol XD. Smooth Jazz Video Game Window Shopping, I like it : ). I hope you feel better soon man.
Actually have used them a few times for games that are hard to find. Basically paying for the ability to find some of these games pretty easily. In my experience their shipping is pretty quick
@@legendarynostalgia8561 Ebay I don't really trust any of the sellers on there to provide a game with a quality cartridge or case. I've never heard of Mercari and now I see it's not American I wouldn't even use it.
@@legendarynostalgia8561 I have standards on where my games come from and how they look. I know that DKoldies I know the game will be clean and won't be shipped from outside the US. The only time I have bought games on Ebay were the modded N64/Dreamcast games.
Hi John great episode as always, please do more of these online window shopping episodes. You could window shop on European stores too just for laughs (here the prizes are really insane sometimes).
While I dabble in NES collecting and I wanna get into SNES at some point the main consoles I collect for is PS2 and PS3, and I just can not trust DKOldies. I saw a number of their YT Shorts where they shipped consoles without the original cables or with crappy third party controllers for prices well over what you could find on eBay and it just seemed real scummy to me, a big selling point is their guarantee working condition but this isn't 2010 anymore, many eBay listings on the first page or so are trustworthy and acceptable and you could always find some convention, flea market or retro store where you can see the games or consoles or whatever for yourself and decide if its good or not. Maybe someday I'll purchase something from DKOldies but that won't be for quite a while.
i have ordered from them before a few times. no problems, there rare games are expensive but i guess if you dont want to look for cheaper prices or want to make sure its cleaned and tested sure. i assume some of there prices are made to pay for the business. i have also traded in some games with them but generally if they are not games they need your not going to get the price you want.
I’ve come across one online reseller that use DKOldies’ values to price their video game sales. I brought up pricecharting and he just insulted me saying I have no idea what I’m doing. Supposedly there’s a lot of people who also price their stuff similar to that of DKO
I think I bought one game from them that was a lower price than most places I checked (Ren and Stimpy Fire Dogs for SNES, yes I think its a decent game regardless of its rep), otherwise they're hit and miss in the price department. I have bought power cords and adapters through them, which they've worked for a few years now so I can't complain as they sell those reasonable. Some stuff I'd go local, some stuff I buy from them. It just depends.
DKoldies' prices are ludicrous even in a post covid world. $300 for a Wii console and wii sports only makes sense if they plated the thing in gold. I have no idea how they determine their item prices but whoever is in charge of that clearly doesn't spend even 5 minutes checking the value. Having the item be "tested" isn't special. It's a shame so many people fall for this highway robbery because they don't know any better and DK has flashy social media marketing
I'd love to know if anyone ever did a real study of how many of these ridiculously priced games actually sell. They'd be much better off in someone's collection than sitting on a shelf in a store collecting dust.

Of course had I not paused to type that comment, I would've known you looked that up.
Same
Thanks for the upload, John!
It is a scam plain and simple preying on the uninformed
@@dragongamer2670 Yeah. It was just another attempt to bring people in on "deals".
Considering that they pay people who sell them their stock 10-20% of the going value, they are practically scamming on both ends.
That stuff is always on sale. The stuff you were looking at then I'm seeing today.
I’d recommend shopping elsewhere. DKO is notorious for being overpriced. Even with sales, you’re better off with eBay, eStarland or Lukiegames.
eBay has been cheaper then most game stores lately.
Last couple times I looked at Lukie games they've been overpriced too used to buy from them years ago but their prices have been just as bad lately ebay has the best online prices
Hope you feel better soon John. ☺️
I actully enjoy it..kind of therapeutic🤷🏽♂️
If I could clean and test and guarantee wiis and make $200 a piece off each unit? I would do it all day and retire in no time
Ive actually been robbed by dkoldies on ebay.
It still has the original Target price sticker of 99.99$
Hahahaha 😂😂🤣🤣 you can buy a cheap and cheerful PC that you can hookup to your TV and just emulate for that price
Excellent video idea kind sir, i really appreciate your retro versatility
Just so you know when you see the games (games only) with the price crossed out, it means that the price for the cosmetically flawed cart, their actual price is the one in black. For example, a good copy of golden eye it's 69 not 38. Just an fyi.
Yes I still have Castlevania Bloodlines in the orginal case! And I can't believe that their selling it for 389.00 Amazing game excellent graphics and an amsome soundtrack!
Wow! These prices are mad!
yea they catering to retired dudes with money and rich people
It must be that time of year, myself and so many of my friends got sick this past week.
👎
Thank Zeus for emulation. I can't even afford one of these expansive games.
I tried to trade in some rare game to DK but they basically emailed back saying yeah they are rare but no one wants them ...
testing and cleaning are done at most shops now....shops that sell the same games for less....online and local. plus 10 minutes of education you can figure out how to open the carts and system to igure out the authenticity. lots of repros out there
I bought one game from DK oldies and these was back in 2005. It was NBA in the zone for PS1 complete. Yes I paid 25 bucks, but the game was in excellent shape.
We just sold a cib long box for $15...
It's a good option to have and a great option for dust covers etc. I can do my own cleaning and such. That's half the fun.
I've had no problems with this site. In one order I did not receive an item in the package. Sent them a picture of the shipping receipt via email of the order. Next few days boom, the missing item. I have no complaints.
Nothing more scary then a giant baby in pajamas
haha, I'm in my Mandalorian christmas sweater.
Seems like there labels are pretty crisp from shorts I see from time to time
Felt like John Riggs ASMR. 😂
Could have saved a lot of money going elsewhere I will though that's your loss
Those console bundles are highway robbery
I’ve bought a lot of stuff from here. Only one bad purchase was I literally got a copy of fzero held together with tape. That was ridiculous
Odd considering they sell replacement screws.
I absolutely loved this one. Hope you get to feeling better soon!
Get well soon, Sir! Greeting from Germany
When I get a Cold I usually use Robittushen, Zinc chewables and Lemon Ginger Tea from GNC.
as a small business owner i would say if you have a problem with the prices then you should shop somewhere else.
@@zflipratorrrz Atari 2600 is sadly very hard to move. Great games yes, but noone seems to want them. Even at 50c to $1 ea...
i never order something anyways we got retroarch launchbox and other themese on android to play retro games.
Awww. I wanted to see John get a free keychain.
Kind of surprised. Some prices are fair and even low. As much as Reddit talks smack about them I figured they'd be like Ticketmaster or something.
WOW! They are way expensive. I can find those consoles for at least half of the asking price anyday. I'll never shop there. Lol.
Illusion of Gaia for $199.99? It's a 30 dollar game lol.
I knew this guy whose voice turned into Barry White every winter
Classic John Riggs supporting a company that blatantly artificially inflates the prices of their games!
I'll visit any video game website like the ones I've done before. I didn't buy anything.
Actually have used them a few times for games that are hard to find. Basically paying for the ability to find some of these games pretty easily. In my experience their shipping is pretty quick
Ebay, Mercari, Whatnot. There is no reason to use DKRipoffs people at all.
@@legendarynostalgia8561 Ebay I don't really trust any of the sellers on there to provide a game with a quality cartridge or case. I've never heard of Mercari and now I see it's not American I wouldn't even use it.
@@superdupergaming8406 Must be different when you have excess money to spend.
I need to!
I was just looking for an online retro store for a PS3 controller. Any other good ones to recommend for the future?
Love to know this. eBay is extremely hit or miss to know if you can buy a genuine OEM controller.
when your sick you sound like that guy who makes those kahn academy videos lol. your videos are quite cool
This is why I use eaby. Most people are only asking a hundred and something for consoles with cables and controllers.
I have a Sega Gensis mini with HDMI and it has a ton of those expensive Gensis games loaded in. You gotta be rich to shop here
While I dabble in NES collecting and I wanna get into SNES at some point the main consoles I collect for is PS2 and PS3, and I just can not trust DKOldies.
Anyone else find Sick John Riggs voice to be cool.
Yep! lol again, I feel fine but my voice drops an extra octave.
i have ordered from them before a few times. no problems, there rare games are expensive but i guess if you dont want to look for cheaper prices or want to make sure its cleaned and tested sure. i assume some of there prices are made to pay for the business. i have also traded in some games with them but generally if they are not games they need your not going to get the price you want.
I’ve come across one online reseller that use DKOldies’ values to price their video game sales. I brought up pricecharting and he just insulted me saying I have no idea what I’m doing. Supposedly there’s a lot of people who also price their stuff similar to that of DKO
I was hoping to see some deals but holy crap these prices are out there.
Pokémon White 2 for almost $300 though? Wtf
I have ordered from them.
I do like how you can order "cosmetic flawed" to save money on a game I just want.
I ordered from them once from The Netherlands. It was reliable. I went for some Turbografx games.
I didn't know about Ivy The Kiwi until a week or two ago. Also on the DS and was made by sonic dude Yuji Naka
There a bunch of scammers and crooks
I'd love to know if anyone ever did a real study of how many of these ridiculously priced games actually sell. They'd be much better off in someone's collection than sitting on a shelf in a store collecting dust.
One of my most favorite NES games is Maniac Mansion.
Some website tour videos would be welcome! Stone Age Gamer, even Amazon stuff, that would all be cool with me!
John has never cared for who he shills for. If a company is dodgy or operates nefariously, Johns your man for all your promotions.
Silent Service for 2 bucks at Sunken Treasures in Richland. Yay!
The lower price that they have on special sometimes its for their cosmetically flawed copy .
test and clean all their stuff? I figured that was a givin even for fb marketplace listings.
Great video! I’ve ordered from DKoldies and it’s always been a good experience. I usually order the cheaper common original Xbox games.
And this is one of the reasons for inflation on retro consoles 😡people like them
No one saw anything but high pricing and deceptive listings lol but it was a fun video
No way I'm paying those prices. Many of those high price games aren't even that rare. People can't afford 2 and 300 dollars for this stuff.
holy cow feel better!
