I am completely overwhelmed by this voice , the song comes 2nd.the magic feeling that this performance brings cannot be described by words alone.
This man is Irish and I'm a proud Irish man today .

I love Colm's Phantom. He's my favorite Valjean and favorite Phantom, now even ahead of my original childhood favorite, Michael Crawford. He brings such understated pathos and gravitas to the Phantom that you can't tell from the OCC album.

Colm's voice is an undeniably beautiful instrument. However, his ability to act with his singing voice is astounding.

I've always loved the amount of emotion that Colm can send out with just his voice. A strange combination of fragility and power. Michael Crawford always seemed to lack that capacity for power. But to each his own.

This had to be early in the run of Les Miz as Colm seems very young. He uses his hands less. Colm has said he knows little of the technicalities of singing and that he works on the emotional effect of the words.

Saw him 1988 he was amazing in the show. The performance you see here is how he performed throughout that show. He is a consummate professional with an extraordinary talent.

Way better than most versions you hear, he doesn't sing too high pitched which I often think makes it sound pretty

The only thing thats wrong with this video is that the quality "interrupts" the beauty and majesty of Colm's delivery. Not your fault though ;). Thanks!

I bet this is from the Tony Awards Show the year the original Broadway cast was eligible.

just because pretty much everyone goes for the falsetto approach doesn't make it the same. I agree with the others, there's a big difference between this man and the rest of the world.

This version isn't bad. I've seen other postings of Colm that I just did not care for. I guess it's who you see first that sticks in your head as the best. For me, that was Mark McVey. The first time I heard this song sung was by Michael Crawford and I was floored. Not saying Colm's version is bad ... it's just not my favorite. I may think differently if I were to see him perform it live. It's a beautiful song.

One of the most remakeable, and true performances of all time. No more hight tenor for this bleeding song. "sung too highh!"

No, Jamie Pugh did not sing it better than Colm Wilkinson. Nowhere near. However, it was a nice variation.
