Heya. David Abbruzzese here... I was playing drums for PJ at that show. It was incredible. I just wanted to let you both know that I enjoyed your reactions. All the best to you both. D.
You are the best.
Best Pearl Jam Drummer
YOU FUCKING ROCK DAVE
Man I miss you and the old PJ so much
WOW that must have been incredible playing to a crowd like that. I bet you have some awesome memories from that time. Seeing people react must take you back to the time. I've probably watched this performance on youtube 100 times. I really like Rockin in the Free World. My local radio station use to play it all the time back in the mid 90's.
You were awesome.
Eddie was known for climbing and crazy stage dives early in the band's career. He apologized for it when they were inducted into the R&R hall of fame.🤣 This band is incredibly diverse. If you've only heard the radio tunes you've missed some absolutely brilliant music. Still filling stadiums with their incredible live shows that are never the same twice. Oh, and he wasn't "on" anything other than adrenaline.
This was actually both an incredible part of their career and a bad part.
This was the start, their first major tour, playing for gigantic audiences right from the first album - Ten. At the same time, Vedder was a little crazy and had a habit of stage diving, swinging from gables and climbing up the rigging. If you watch this back you'll notice that the crowd collapses under him, when he's being pulled up he stops and yells at them to get up. When he gets back on stage he goes back to check the crowd to make sure they got up again and that he hadn't just triggered a mass crush event.
This was incredibly dangerous and he seemed to realize it as it happened. He's talked about this event since and regrets it, he can't stand to look back at the early shows and hates how reckless he was, and how much he scared people, including his band mates. Back then we kind of thought one day he would have an accident and fall from a height. Everyone was kind of expecting that to happen. We're all glad it didn't.
They played there again a few years ago and Vedder told the story of the camera guy and how he hadn't realized the arm of the camera was held up by people at the bottom, it's carefully balanced, so him climbing on could have crashed it to the ground, and him diving off could have launched the camera guy off. Vedder thought the guy probably hated him. They managed to find him again and invited him to the show. Turns out that event was one of the highlights of the camera guy's career before he retired lol
Such a different generation... this was normal behaviour at these gigs and quite common lol, but Eddie was an absolute master at crowd jumping, surfing, rig climbing etc... The song you are singing is Evenflow and you are in for a treat if you watch the live official video version of it.
This was their first huge venue. You can see on Eddie’s face how in awe he was. After this performance he grabbed his video recorder and started to record the audience
The song you're mimicking is Even Flow
I literally laughed out loud when he mimicked Even Flow.
This performance is very early on when adrenaline took over. They’ve been together now for 30 years, and their music has evolved and matured over the years. So many people only know their biggest hits, but they have created so much wonderful music. Eddie Vedder’s brilliant lyrics, and their incredibly diverse music has kept their music fresh, and they continue to fill arenas around the world. You should listen to their MTV Unplugged concert, especially “State of Love and Trust”, and “Black”. Also, two videos that shouldn’t be missed are the uncensored “Jeremy”, and the brilliantly animated “Do The Evolution”. I hope you continue to explore their music. If you do, you’ll also begin to see that all of them are truly decent human beings, who care deeply about their fans, and passionately devoted to different social causes. I just love these guys.
By the way, for the longest time Eddie thought the cameraman was angry about his jumping into the crowd. Years later he finally met him again and discovered the guy thought it was thrilling, and that it was a highlight of his career.
Definitely more Pearl Jam!!!
Absolutely one of the most wicked stage dives I've ever seen! That crowd was just huge!
They were on adrenaline and energy feedback. No lines of anything. ✌️
I hope you "start a thing" on Pearl Jam... So many good songs mentioned to reaction to. Most people start with their first album "Ten". Either MTV unplugged or official videos. Betterman Madison Square Garden 2010 version is amazing. Do the Evolution video is great but their 2003 Madison Square Garden performance literally had the stage bouncing. Over 30 years of making music so there's a lot to choose from. Everything from acoustic to electric, rock to ballads, social commentary to love songs.
Eddie Vedder released an album last year called Earthling, the song "Invincible" was used by NASA to make a video about the soon to be launched Artemis 1 that will be going to the moon.
You should definitely start a thing on your channel for Pearl Jam reactions. Their catalogue is DEEP. Possibly the best band of the last 30 years.
Also I will settle a dispute for you. Flannel is definitely grunge.
Ya gotta do the entire unplugged show.......AMAZING!!!!!!
Pearl Jam "Even Flow" That's the song you have in your head. Please do that one!
One of the best raw performances I've ever seen on video!!
Pearl Jam Alive the official video is pretty sick!!!
Pearl Jam - Black (MTV unplugged)
The best live performance you will ever see.
Can remember seeing this live on TV. Was a crazy performance.
Biggest crowd I ever played for was 12 thousand at a rock festival in Dallas TX in the early 80s the crowd energy feedback was incredible . Better than any drug. I can't even imagine what they was getting from this crowd. It like something takes over you playing .
I felt like I was watching a SNL skit 😂
thank u so much 👍👍👍👍👍👍
I'm sure you're getting a lot of Black unplugged requests. May I suggest Better Man? They have so many gems. 30 plus years of good music
For sure, Pearl Jam has other songs besides Black. This was a good start
Hahaha Evenflow is the name of the song you’ve been singing. Definitely a great vibe that one, specially the guitars and drum
Stage diving and mosh pits slam dancing were commonplace on our grunge days. I’ve seen Eddie help fans on stage to stage dive. In grunge the audience was very interactive. Performer’s would regularly hang around with fans after shows. They weren’t untouchable like they are now!
Every time Porch was performed, Eddie would do something crazy whether crowd surfing or climbing stage scaffolding, speaker stacks, to the point management and band members were on guard because you just didn't know What he was going to do.
Eddie is a surfer, an adrenaline junkie. Loves red wine. I lived in Seattle in 1980s and 90s and the city was electric with the many bands forming. Pearl Jam was and still is my favorite band of that time. Their concerts are 3+ hours of incredible music experience. ❤✌
Dudes.i have a record player.and vinyl available again.im stoked.nice reaction..love beginners lol 😆
Two overly sheltered individuals watching a free spirit living life to the fullest!
They close every show with Porch
C'mon...You know they close every show with Yellow Ledbetter
Try either Corduroy or Betterman live performances. Or Do the Evolution.
Back then there was no offense we did not give a fuck we went crazy I miss them days
Porch is 🔥
Say you've never been to a rock show without saying you've never been to a rock show
Ediie was the ONLY one who didnt fall into Drug trap of "grunge 90s Seatlle"....hes a real man
I never realized how unabashedly Hendrix the riff at 4:21 is
It’s funny y’all think this is a crazy performance but for us Gen-X er’s it’s commonplace! Yes they were the grunge era, Eddies voice is phenomenal please do more PJ!!
The energy at todays concerts is such a shame. Getting in the pit used to be about unity and riding a wave of common energy for the music. Nowadays the young bucks don’t understand a pit and try and fight everyone if they get bumped while they’re using their phone to video the show!🤦♂️
Yeah man , spread your wings! There so much more then you're exploring 😉
Would love to have you react to Cake like their song (cover) "I Will Survive" or "Short Skirt/Long Jacket". Or perhaps Mike Doughty and/or Soul Coughing.
If you can check out Pearl Jam at The Who rock honours. The Who were inducted into the RNRHF and a whole string of bands celebrated them by covering some of their songs. Pearl Jam covered Love Reign Over Me and The Real Me……it was so cool to watch this as I love both bands immensely! Would love to watch your reactions! 👌
The song you were trying to Mimic is Even flow by Pearljam lol.
The fans like it a lot
Called Crowd Surfing
He was probably on wine, maybe some whiskey, but I don't think Eddie was ever a big drug guy. And yes, the crowd loved it.
That song you keep pantomiming is "Even Flow!" Should check out the official music video for some more concert hijinks. After MTV's Unplugged version of "Black," of course.
The song you tried to impersonate is Even Flow. You should check that out and make sure you analyze the lyrics. They are important. But next you should watch the official uncensored video for Jeremy. It was video of the year and possibly greatest of all time or next check out Black from the MTV Unplugged for amazing vocals
Here's a few of his best stage dives from Caneron Crowe's Pearl Jam Twenty film. ruclips.net/video/MIjDen9V6Ck/видео.html
Did you just completely miss the mosh pit up front the whole song? You think they cared that he dove into the crowd? They loved it
Alive is the song your on about
It’s called stage diving . Wait until you see Evenflow .
eddie vedder " all the way"
If you two were to young to go to concerts in the 90's, 80's and 70's then you missed the train. It would suck to be born in this century! Most concerts are domesticated now, unless you hit a small venues or clubs!
Luckily, he’s a fairly little guy.
You can tell that you two have never been to a Rock concert.
Funny.lol.u sound like Adam Sandler lol jk..
Or ....even flow
What are they on??? I take offense to that for the band.... If anything it was an adrenaline rush, a release of anxiety and nerves after playing the biggest show of their lives...
flannel was definitely the trademark of grunge
Let me guess you voted for Biden.
Get a cat. Dogs are lame for this kind of shit
NIN is not like Pearl Jam.
If you take out everything except the drums and base on this hell leave bits of vocal in and this song is a DnB banger!!! Pearl Jam azaming in so many ways
