You've got to go back in that area and farther - Eddie Vedder, Chris Cornell, and many others were amazing singers. They took that from their favorite bands like Queen, The Who (Eddie's favorite), AC/DC, etc. There's always a thru-line.

I’m not a huge fan of this song, but I do like it more now than when it first came out. In addition to referring to wearing necklaces of patron saints, I think the lyric “St Anger around my neck’ might also be referring to the phrase ‘to carry an albatross around your neck’ which comes from the Samuel Taylor Coleridge poem ‘The Rime of the Ancient Mariner’ and means to carry a heavy burden. Going through life while carrying a bunch of anger inside you definitely sounds like a burden to me.
