I've had the MTE3 shoes for a year and I love them. Insanely good grip and warmth in ice/snow conditions, and they look great too, not just another boring pair of boots.
The timing of this is amazing, I just missed a BMX session downtown Dartmouth the other day because I my feet can't handle the freezing temps in regular sneakers anymore.
I went the Airwalk route back in the day instead of vans and quickly ditched them for other skate shoes LOL Speaking of lazy meals, I made a grill cheese in the airfryer with a egg cracked open on top with mozorella on top of that, it was magical.
I went back and forth between vans ad air walks as a kid since air walks were / are cheaper usually would be the more likely option as a kid. I actually have a pair of air walks I bought awhile back and they’re not too shabby. I was at Walmart getting shoes and they had 1 pair each of the other shoes I wanted to try out in my size and the air walks were the only other pair in my size so I said why not let’s see if they’ve improved at all haha.
@@dannystarkridesfixed Airwalks in the mid 90s weren't really cheap if I remember correctly, pretty sure I had to ask repeatedly for the parents to get me a pair LOL I moved to ADIO and Etnes and other brands after my first pair or two. I mostly wear leather boots made in the US now and a few pairs of 510 and Adidas shoes.
there's so many cool stories of 90's pro BMXers being on air walk! until they kind of started faltering and let the brand become a Walmart product. that's what I like about Vans, they've always made a product that is higher quality for people like us that need the tougher shoe, and then they also have what I call their "fashion" line.. that sort of looks the same but doesn't perform. some people just want the look, and I for one am so happy their purchases subsidize the existence of my shoes haha
Awesome video and I completely Concur. Ive been exclusively wearing Vans in the summer for over 20yrs. When the Geoff Rowley XLT shoe was released I had 6 pairs in various color combos. Then moved into an Old School & Era phase, and most recently been wearing the ultra range. Found a pair of MTE boots at Winners and had to get them to try out. So far SO good! Didn't cross my mind to winter mtb in them though. 🎉
I've walked on wet rock's through small rivers and they have great grip, they feel comfortable too, I don't know how different they get from MTE-1 to MTE-3 but they are great. Best wishes 🤙
I thought this might be kinda lame when you mentioned this review on your previous video But it was great to watch . You did a good job describing the fit comfort and warmth. At 73 and still riding into winter in Wisconsin and the Vans look nice except for the width issue. I've gotten the dreaded wide foot as I've aged. I'll check them out.
I honestly kind of thought the same thing might happen lol. Reviews are not at all my forte either, but dammed if I didn't have fun talking about and riding in these!
@@Spindatt Great to see you reply. I like the snowy rides you do. Someday I hope to return to Nova Scotia for another visit and see what's changed. Happy riding.
Stock shoelaces almost always suck and if the shoes last any length of time you'll be replacing them anyhow. That's like the most disappointing part is getting something you're excited about that runs a bit of coin and have to upgrade the laces immediately to really enjoy them like you want. I started just getting a few sets of laces I like when I see them on a j-hook; they don't take up much space in the pantry lol those boots look epic tho
Do they have any arch support or are they flat like regular Vans? I have pretty flat feet and one of the things I like about Vans, Converse and shoes like that is how minimal they are. Arch support hurts my feet. I've had these on my radar for a while, but obviously they're pretty different in construction to the classics....
Your explanation of your experience with the brand was rather well done. I recall trying dog biscuits somewhere in my misspent youth… not worth the effort if my memory serves me.
I have a pair of vans skate shoe I have the wide foot problem. Still a nice shoe but tight across my feet. Cant wear them for long. I also have some Chuck Taylor in a size up they are fine still a little narrow but much more comfortable.
Pro Tip: Underwood Ranches charges shipping for a three pack but shipping is free for two packs, so two two packs is about the same cost as a three pack. I am not affiliated, I have found that their verde, sambal, chili/garlic, and sriracha sauces are amazing and always in stock. footnote: Underwood Ranches is/was the supplier to Huy Fong (the Sriracha empire) and when Huy Fong stuck them with basically a million tons of the peppers for sriracha they told Huy Fong GFY and upped production on their own sauce. Their sriracha tastes identical to Huy Fong except it's less sweet and more spicy - because it is the same peppers lol of course they're the people that grew the peppers in the first place (and their other peppers and garlic are very good as well, making the other sauces excellent also).
Vans quality has went to shit over the past 10 years. They still look great but they just don't hold up for me. Even my pair that I don't ride in started coming apart after a couple of months. These look nice though, and hopefully they're much better built and you have better luck.
I thought the same thing for a hot second a few years ago then learned there is the "pro" line that us true users need to be purchasing. So now I use the BMX specific ones with extreme satisfaction. the ones that come from random stores in the mall are just for fashion and offer 0 support haha
YO! I’m such a vans fan boy! Have been forever for literally all the same reasons. I’ve got some MTEs I got for that 1 time it snows in London. Big fan! Leave them. 🤌🏼
Justice for Norton will you please stop dipping into his college fund haha.
Angela and I have come to terms with him likely not continuing his education in his retirement years. we are still proud of him hahaha

awesome! I love that they go on sale for such wild prices too.
Definitely inspired to ride on a cold and sloppy day 🤘
yes!! love hearing this
thank you so kindly for the support!

Riding BMX in these would definitely take a little getting used to, but absolutely doable for the cold seasons!
@@Spindatt Even it just allows me to go pedal around that's great.
Rather be mobbing around downtown than sitting home getting fat 😅
Just bought me some. Loving the daily uploads and variety lately, btw! Keep crushing it man
Thank you!
the sale price of Vans is so absurd hah
Do they run small?

I bought last years version on a summer sale. I'm pleasantly surprised by how warm they are. Vans online deals make their shoes a bargain.
yeah I got these for $100CAD to the door, hard to find a winter "cycling" shoe for that good of a price that will allow for this level of utility
Ive been wearing some new mte 2 sk8 his and theyve been pretty good. Plenty comfy for some hiking, and warm enough with thick socks
we are same!! those are chunkier I think aren't they? I don't really understand the lineup that much
Do the run true to size?

I would have to say they feel pretty flat
I have totally been checking these out.. thank you!!
They feel a little vague on the pedals out of the gate, but totally something you get used to. So warm. So lovely
@@Spindattlove my Vans… HATE cold feet
I've used the mte's with the boa in 0f commuting daily for the past three years and they're still going
this is good news to have!

LOL we used to try beggin strips as kids. they were... just OK. Don't see the hype really when it comes to dogs wanting them haha

yeah I couldn't imagine someone with wide feet enjoying these
MOAB 3 currently.. been nearly two decades using the MERRELL MOAB. NORTHERN MANITOBA APPROVED
those keep you pretty warm in Manitoba winters? thats impressive
@Spindatt merino wool socks as well but yeah. I use full coverage fenders
It has been -29 to -32 degrees Celsius in my part of Sweden this week. That's cold!
yeah, thats truly cold haha
we used to get a lot of days like that here, but its really gotten significantly warmer in the last decade
Inspiring vids! I actually got out and did a (small) ride today
amazing! any snow out your way?

I'd be willing to bet that shipping to Canada is a million dollars haha
I LOVE me some good hotsauce Lore. appreciate you sharing that footnote
The description of the hot sauce was gold 😂😂
its just: nothing
Norton deserves all the biscuits. Also, how did they taste? XD
haha I just stuck with the smell for the time being. but tempted. truly tempted.
appreciate the support as always. so helpful
Could these be used for hiking?
I'm looking to buy a pair for the same reason, yet no one's answered tge question.
Canada is odd. Km's and Celsius but weight in lbs...
Gotta love it.
ITS CAUSE OF YOU GUYS BELOW US
AND WTF IS A MILE
@Spindatt it's 1.6 km's
I'd be all for going metric. Imperial is pretty silly
Favorite kidnapper’s shoes - White vans! 😂 black vans :)
lol
Has anyone used these for motorcycle rides?
I think they’d work, but be a little stiff/clunky
good overshoes make every cyclingshoe a winter shoe :) in my opinion at least...
frigging over shoes, always peeling over the toes of ripping for any walking hahah
I been thinking about starting to wear shoes.
its such a crazy difference to the alternative
I like em ' I just put Van's grips on my commuter 😊
those are a great piece of kit as well!
Love me some hi top vans 👌
the best!
Columbia Fairbanks omniheat boot. Thank me later. Mega waterproof and light and comfortable and warm as hell
Franks Red Hot Sauce, I put that shit on everything. Hands down the superior hot sauce. Their wing sauce is all g too.
I love all hot sauces, even the 2/10 ones haha
Yeah I guess I need new shoes. Bought em. Thanks lol
sale price hard to pass up haha
double knots rock
its the only way to feel secure
I dislike the reverese waffle tread. Packs in with mud or snow, easier than original sole
will report back with my experience. id like to compare notes
