Plunge Pool
Steps:
1. This is a custom and professional job that will require working with a pool manufacturer and an excavator.
2. Order the pool with the desired dimensions, type of tiles, and seat placement. It can take up to a month for the order to be fulfilled and delivered.
3. An excavator should come and dig the hole for the pool, just slightly longer and wider than the actual dimensions of the pool.
4. The excavator should also pour about 18” of crushed stone into the hole and compact everything.
5. When the hole is prepped, a truck will deliver the pool and crane it into place.
6. Once the pool is in place, the pool equipment will need to be put into place and plumbed in.
7. The landscaping and hardscaping around the pool can then be completed after that to give the plunge pool a nice, finished look.
Resources:
Jenn installed a custom plunge pool, manufactured by Soake Pools (www.soakepools.com/). The company sources all the materials required for the pool, including the pool equipment.

So this is a guide on how to get the smallest pool for the highest price possible, sounds good!
LMAO 😂🤣
Exactly
Lol, yes.
ruclips.net/video/39mmHlstXd8/видео.html
Might be the max for what they can apply for from the city permit wise. Who knows what else they have in mind for their backyard and if they are going to max out their allotted impermeable square footage with a patio/walkways etc.
So, the answer to "How to Install a Plunge Pool" is just pay someone to do it for you?
Sometimes that's the answer.
@@watcherofwatchers that is never the answer. Sack up, take charge, build it well. I like to think ill get something 5 to 10x better if i spend what it cost for someone else to do it and just do it myself. One catch, you do need a wide selection of tools and mechanical skills.
Raul Duke There is also a lot of pool-specific knowledge you need to know. By doing it yourself you take the gamble that you miss a detail. Where drains and the filter outlet should go, for safety you need at least 2 drains per pump so you cannot get stuck on one under water, the chemistry of the water (PH level, chlorine or salt), and there is some kind of valve which prevents your pool exploding out of the ground caused by the water table if you empty it. Such things are easily skipped by accident if you’re not in the business and don’t research enough.
They still showed how it’s installed. They never said who would install it. 😉
@@raulduke7142 You sack up and realize that some jobs are outside the scope of what a person wants to or can take on for themselves. This Old House has ALWAYS shown a mixture of DIY and professional craftsmen and craftswomen performing the work.
Also, try not being a jerk.
This doesn't sound like it was pre-planned or pre-written in advance at all.. The conversations and questions all shooting from the hip I see...
Right, because so many people spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to tape a sequence just to enjoy forgetting to cover key points while randomly speaking when a crew is assembled to tape them?
I sort of felt the same way. Something was off. The entire conversation between the two women was both awkward and forced. It almost seemed uncomfortable.
They were reading off their q cards.
"Bad acting"
I feel this is a hallmark of TOH. It has a particular cadence that carries across all episodes. You immediately know what you watching without looking it up.
Looks like a septic tank without the lid.
5:51 “ here let me help you with that”. Goes on to do absolutely nothing.
Noe Luna 😂😂😂
"That would be great."
"we'll locate this away from the pool....thats why i brought it to the pool"
Mike missed some spots with the grout. Sloppy work.
And the waterproofing as well
Not only that but the tile job was horrible.
It was the worst waterproofing ever
Yeah I saw that n thought...it must have been a Monday 🤣
Mike said it's going be under anyway lol
If this is the future of this old house, count me out
I miss the old cast but they are getting older ;the show won't be the same with out them. Once they are gone im done with this old house.
This new house
This is ask this old house, different from this old house
You understand this isn’t This Old House right? It’s Ask This Old House totally different.
It's the same thing that drove me away from Popular Mechanics. Buy buy BUY!!
FYI, from the company's website:
Cost for a 7' x 13' pool with all features listed above is $22,750.
That does not include heat, cover, ladder or installation (from what i can gleen from the site) .
😂 wow
What a bargain! With that profit margin they could buy a lot of advertising. For example buy a timeslot on a show that had a great following but is existing mainly on the remainder of a once great reputation. Guess that's why festool is all over the show too.
For people with more dollars than sense
5:28 "Wow, he just cleared that tree at the top"... "he's got mad skills".. lmfao🤣😭
heh came here for this.
I love how those conversations look so natural ...
Never heard of a plunge pool. Is that a pool you can’t swim in but isn’t a spa? Seems like a waste of money.
I'm curious as to why they didn't vibrate all the air bubbles out of the concrete form? I noticed a lot of pits and pockets on the inside and outside.
S0uthp4w68 Yeah, you can only get rid of that appearance if you have a finished surface, which would have to be facing up and exposed.
Well...it only costs $23k before installation so they barely make any money as it is😂😂😂
Just because they did not show it does not mean it was not done. All concrete should/ must be vibrated to make sure there are no voids it the finished product...
Because the vibrating device is out of service due to overuse by the pool making chick
The concrete has a lot of apparent holes. Imagine how it is around the rebar. It is not vibrated, the waterproofing didn't go all the way into the visible holes of the concrete walls, the grout was applied wrong. This is a disaster.
I’m just here for the battles from all the Pool professionals
karen is hot AF
Yeah since I work for a pool contractor this is weird and I want to see what others say too.
I wonder if you will have to do a start up for that type of pool. Like you would for traditional pools? 🤔
I came here for the comments and was not disappointing.
@balderoine Pool professionals only? Don't forget the Waterproof pros, tile pros, grouting pros, truck/crane operator pros, foundation pros.
3:46 The moment you are using a spunge in a tiling job, all the holes should have been filled already i think?
And the water proofing done with a roller over all those holes. They should have used a vibrator after the pour to get rid pf the air bubbles. And why did they not have a tube for the concrete fillig, seems like alot of it went outside of the kassets.
Other than that the idea is good.
Richard van Pukkem proves you don’t by a pool from these jokers
Shouldn’t there have been some crushed modified or stonedust above that 3/4 layer as well?
zack9912000 I don't know about concrete but I know these pools have to be overpriced because of all the waste. Also, the workers look like they are unhappy. I bet they don't care if the pools come out crappy or with flaws. IMHO
The sponge will help fill in the holes if there's enough material left, which there was not
Great, they've found away to charge us the same amount for a "pool" a quarter the size my making it a cool catchy title oooow plunge pool! I'll put this in the same list as the "ole barn wood".
And make it like a septic tank!
Inside of a HUGE yard
"I understand why you wouldnt use a traditional pool, it would take up the whole yard"
Nice grout work....says no one
This video's got mad skills.
When setting large format tile (LFT), it’s not recommended to offset the tiles by more than one third because you’ll end up with lippage as can be seen in this video where the tiles were offset 1/2. The finished installation is very pretty, though.
yup i saw that too along with air bubble gap in the grout, yikes
I haven’t seen an old house on This Old House in a long time.
2:21 "Michael, our Tyler, is working on that right now. I'm sorry did you think I said tiler? No, he can't tile at all. His name is Michael Tyler so he's our Tyler."
Going to love that tree in the fall.
If the problem is the space, I would rather get a hot tub, I would probably enjoy it more than the little pool
right!
Gabriele De Mattia
That’s really what it is, I have built pool spas on pools that are bigger than that and in reality the “plunge pool” is just a large spa.
Though if you have the space to swim around a bit, then you have fresh temperature water flowing along your body. So that feels more refreshing than sitting still in a pool. And a bit of excercise of course.
At my house we have a pool, it's a decent size. We also have a hot tub. We get wayyyy more use out of the hot tub. We are in it almost every night of the year. We are planning on moving and we are only getting a hot tub, we just don't get enough use out of the pool and they are a lot of work
My neighbor used to have a bathtub buried in their yard too.
Boomhauer So did mine, except theirs had the Virgin Mary inside of it.
they looked scared of each other when talking about the tiles
professional grouting
Where? I didn't see it.
Love Jenn and Roger :)
Sounds affordable.. all I need to do is win the powerball 😂

How about a less scripted conversation?
And the scripting wasn’t even good!
was it scripted!?!?!?! i didnt notice
By 2 really poor actors
You must be new to TOH.
@@ephanhymerable they're not actors
So beautiful pool
Goes to salon and hands the stylists her 1982 graduation photo....gimmi this style again
So we have a different room for each meal of the day. When is someone going to make a "Snacking Nook"?
“what is this, a pool for ants!?”
Bahaha haha
I don’t want to hear your excuses! The pool needs to be at least three times as big as this.
"it stays cool during the summer and warm during the winter"
-we have a heater to bring in.
Is the pool available for baptisms.
Tell the truth. I would assume so. They seem like a all in one fabrication company. A separate porter makes septic tanks, pump boxes, and many other things, so I don’t see why not. That would look so nice also😀
Seems like the joke blew right over ol’ John’s head
Sometimes just sometimes you have to feel for the human race when they do not understand irony.
It’s not religious. But for an extra $500 I can baptize it for you
Hallelujah
Awesome.
Next episode: How to be really disappointed with a plunge pool.
“Remember it’s a pool so you cannot have enough water proofing” 10 years of water proofing later, you have a solid block of water proofing.
That’s a cool option.
5:09 someone is going to have to fix that window well now. 😅
Haha. Good catch
Not seeing it, what am I looking for?
😳THANK-YOU FOR THIS VIDEO . ITS SOMETHING NEW & GREAT . FROM A NEW FAN🤗.IN SAN ANTONIO,TX.😎💞👁️
So its a custom tub.
3:47 - that’s a void in the grout. There will definitely be water infiltration to the rear membrane there. A weak point for sure.
The ladies did a great job on installing that plunge pool.
Cool.
When I click on the video I automatically need to like it and I do
Just astonishing, the skill and craftsmanship down to the delivery driver was incredible.
Got something on your nose there
I would have liked a deeper and wider pool myself seemed space exist for one as well!
0:30 The two main roles must both wear safety equipment, the to guys actually working don't. Perfection.
All the guys inside do.
There's something 'off' with this "This Old House" video.
Ahh, I figured it out... I don't see any comments claiming that American pools and pool construction are inferior to the rest of the world?
StoneE4 they are. The rest of the world doesn't swim in chemical laden spit and sweat filtered garbage ass recycled water. Lol
I visit mars a lot because my brother in law has a shop there and they make pools energy efficient with zero concrete and passive filtration. Also they have natural waves and and you get 3% less HIV by swimming in it.
It's just better using old ways
You could do the exact same thing in fiberglass, 10 times stronger, less maintenance, less chemicals, much lighter, and a whole lot cheaper!!!!
This was so uncomfortably staged
That was just a commercial! How far have you sunk This Old House?
Tim White Deeper than that pool was set.
@@Stackali This New House.
😎 incredible
For that money might as well install it inside the house. Cut a hole in the floor and lower it into the basement with a crane. Then install the proper ventilation inside (because indoor pools need ventilation). If I was spending that kind of money, I would want my pool inside the house so I could use it year round.
Go to 0:42 to see what they are really doing at this plant.
Radioactive
I'd like to know the cost difference of a concrete plunge pool versus a full size pool I mean that dude had a huge backyard if you look further but anyways
He wants space in his backyard when he is gonna have kids.
Norm could build that in an hour. Pshhh
Norm would have made that from wood and it still would have been waterproof.
Two actually. One for the intro and another just cause he can
I really did like Rodger...however Jenn is very cute. I really love Jenn :)
Remember when they showed how
they did not what you can buy?
One hundred million dollars. ☝️
What's the point of a little one person pool
I mean, my first thought was ‘that’s a tiny pool that probably costs a lot more than a much larger lined inground pool’. But most residential pools aren’t really large enough for “swimming” anyway; 4 strokes and your at the other end. Mostly people just splash about and cool off, so why not go small? But I bet this is still prohibitively expensive.
What kind of maintenance do you have to have for this pool
For you want a tepid hot tub without the bubbles?
*then plunge pool is right for you!*
How deep is the pool shown? Is it heated? (The woman from the pool company said "summer and winter..." so how is that made possible? In a regimen of physical therapy years ago, the treatment took place in a therapy pool that was shallow enough in one area to be able to walk and deep enough in other areas that you could only tread water. The pool was heated to something over 100 degrees. It was a small pool in size but designed with those physical therapy needs in mind. Would this pool shown on TOH be suitable for that kind of home PT?
take a shot everytime she says ok. . You'll be drunk within a minute
How to turn a septic tank into a pretend pool for your debt-box mcmansion 😆🤭
What kind of waterproof using st the bottom of the pool??? Anyone
They cut away quick when the truck driver caves in the basement window well while backing in, 5:08-5:11
Not that model but I heard some bad stuff about those plunge pools being installed without a hydrostatic pump and it cracking during the season changes
Can someone make a "This old rv/camper" i would much rather watch that.
Yes A million dollar pool for my apt yay
It would be nice if I could get 1 in Las Vegas
“He’s got mad skills”
They did not mention winter-ization... do you drain it? Ice expands and could do a job on those tiles...
They said "cool in the summer and warm in the winter" so they aren't draining it, they are using it all year round.
0:16
So it must be heated... it will cost a fortune to keep open up north, just to keep it from freezing.
@@TNtoolman use your heat pump from your ac unit
Every time I hear "Entertaining space" I get irritated. Do people build houses as "for hire" venues? :D
Grout and tile waterproof?
Your reporter is annoyng.
“hes got mad skillz”
we apply the waterproofing like this-“you apply the waterproofing like this”
Just watched this after watching the container pool vid from TOH. Too bad this family didn't see the container pool vid first, too...
A guy didn't finish all the grout there was some holes in it and he was wiping it with a sponge like he was done
Love it! 👏
Tiniest little pool lol
Pool for a dog
It’s just a concrete pool spa without the pool 😂
I would use it for sensory deprivation.
Glad that pool that was being tiled in the factory is not going in my house. Appalling quality of finish/workmanship.
Beautiful
The membrane is very thin... and there is alot of holes in the concrete
thats one nice septic tank
Is it Nsf listed and UL certified?
How about if you ordered up a topless septic tank, and did most of the finish work yourself? That's basically what this thing is.
This video has nothing to do with how to.
I though these plunge pools were deep? It seems like a normal pool just square and smaller.
Can you add parts to make it a swim resistance pool part time?
If u can't add pumps to do that I think some company makes a system of suction cups, bands and velcro cuffs and waistband that would do similar and probably for a lot less
Set up bungee cords. There are commercial produced harnesses for sale that allow you to swim not do endless flip turns. I have a 10' pool and use it 6 months of the year for exercise.
So if they don't want the pool later, they can have a foundation for a hut with a basement.
Remember when This Old House used to use the term "sweat equity"?
Michael does the waterproofing
I'm that neighbor that has the old broken down house next door... HI!
Lol
i came for the acting...was not disappointed
I can see why you couldn’t put a regular pool in that gigantic yard. Gotta love the rich and oblivious.
What's the name of this pool company that is making this pool we are having a hard time finding a pool company that has any idea what I'm talking about
So they install some pink looking tile and end up getting blue water?? I'm scared
