    Thanks for posting and so true! I adopted a 20 year old HH (male?) recently and he's just so funny, but man the sound he can make sometimes...WOW. Usually he's just cycling through his various laugh tracks thank god.

    I have adopted a hawks headed parrot, his name is Albert, he is awesome! Unfortunately he did not bond with me, he bonded with my ex-wife who has left and did not take him. We got him when he was 10 or so, he has been with my wife and i for about 12 years and now just with me about 4 years. Thank God he hasn't gone mad and plucked all of his feathers. Although he is quite vocal with me when he doesn't get the attention that he hates from me 🤔 , yes thats right. I do love the little guy, i give him what he needs, let him fly around, give him treats and toys. If you have any advice for me to do so he can bond with me i am open for any and all ideas.
    Thank you for the great video!

      Thanks for watcing and commenting, Marcy. I miss her terribly, she passed away. Not an easy bird, she was loud and aggressive with some of my other birds. Still, she takes up some of the most space in my heart. She was a fantastic bird with a lot of personality.

    i got my first hawk head when i was 5. he unexpectedly passed away from an autoimmune disease that kills 1-3 birds worldwide, annually. I finally was able to find another one when i was 22. and he has a sister now who is a kakariki :)

      Was the first hawk head killed by PDD? I’ve had two youngsters that have been killed by ABV/AG/PDD in terrible ways. On my third now (extremely expensive and hard to find) and doing everything I can to keep her happy and healthy. Hope the sisters are doing amazing!! ❤

    Have a seven year old male hawk head, called Apache, and I’ve had since weaning. He cost me £800 so very reasonable compared to what they cost in the US
    he’s noisy, sounds like a fire alarm going off, and his temperament is fine, but he threatens me at times, then the next minute he’s a sweety. I’ve been bitten hard once, after coming home from holiday, took him out and I knew something was up with him, so put my hand up to lift him off my shoulder and chomp! It was a very deep bite on my finger, and thankfully have had no repeats.
    He loves pomegranate and banana, definitely his favourites.
    They are lovely birds, but I wouldn’t recommend one unless you are experienced with parrots, and can read their moods.
    Great video, nice hearing your views on them.

      Hello John - sorry, some posts slip through the cracks and I’m just reading yours. Interesting about your HH- because mine was a rescue, she’s not as attached to me as it sounds like guy is - and your price was far, far more reasonable! We pay a lot here in the US. Yeah, we don’t travel much. Or hardly- it’s hard on the birds and hard to get someone to take care of them well. When he have been gone for a night, we get lashed out at too- they don’t like being ‘abandoned,’ not even for a night! Do you have any other parrots? Land Shark is good with almost all my other birds, but doesn’t bond with any of them.

      @jmacd98 Год назад

      @@ParrotBliss sorry, it’s me now replying late! My HH Apache is pretty attached to me, but a bit wary of my hands for some reason, so I just let him fly onto me and he loves hanging out on my shoulder whilst I’m doing things, with the occasional light nibble of my ears. He will not go to anyone else, thankfully as I wouldn’t trust him, and he shares the room with a blue headed macaw and a crazy crimson bellied conure. He’s got no interest in other birds and is completely safe out, as I sometimes leave him whilst going to town for an hour and he just hangs out on his Java branch being a sentinel. I do not trust the conure or the macaw out whilst I’m not in the room, particularly the macaw as he just looks for trouble! I also have a white capped pionus, 8 years old but she’s in my sitting room. She does not like any bird going near her, and will try nip toes if one of the others lands on her cage. The joys of parrot ownership! They are all great though, and each with their own personality as you know.

    WOOOO I bought one few days ago, it's very afraid, but surprisingly it steps on hand, and let me pet by slowly moving my hand on it's head, so I'll slowly try to tame it to make the fear goes away but keeping petting it, and talking to it.
    I noticed it don't eat much but it poop regularly, do they not eat much like other parrots?
    and to me it seems healthy but it makes low faint sounds like HEEH HEEEH.... while doing anything, what does that mean!?
    Any tips you got for me? 😁

    • @ParrotBliss
      @ParrotBliss  Год назад +1

      Start by taking your HHP to the vet, make sure he/she is healthy and is eating enouogh food. Also, the vet will talk to you about diet. HHP need vegetables, pellets and 1/4 c of nuts. If you don't have other birds, don't get any. The HHP might hurt them-

    • @ahmedalsiddiqi1502
      @ahmedalsiddiqi1502 Год назад

      @@ParrotBliss yes the vet seems like the best idea, thank you very much.
      But about your second point.. don't worry, as I already have more than the hawk parrot, but I don't mix them together, unless I'm supervising them and make sure there is safe distance and reading their body language. So it's all good!👍🏼 😆

    From what I've heard, and what it seems, Hawk Heads have a similar general personality and temprament to conures. Would you say that's accurate?

    • @ParrotBliss
      @ParrotBliss  7 месяцев назад +1

      I'd say HH are more so: more aggressive, louder. Stronger personalities.

    Hi! Thanks for posting, Hawk Heads are a species I hadn’t given much consideration to. It sounds like your HH is less friendly than your Capes? Is that what you’re suggesting in this video? Or does that have more to do with the bird being rehomed?

    • @ParrotBliss
      @ParrotBliss  2 года назад +1

      Capes are friendlier, for sure. Easier to have too.

    • @the.rocky.safari
      @the.rocky.safari 2 года назад

      @@ParrotBliss Thanks! I think we have a similar “taste” in birds! (Perhaps that’s not the best word choice, but I think you get what I mean)
      I’m trying to choose between cape parrots, golden conures, and .. while it’s not really feasible at this time in my life… a harlequin macaw some day. From the videos I’ve seen, it seems like you have all of them! I’m so happy I found your channel :) Trying to learn from each one to help guide my decision for when the time comes. You’re so lucky to have so many amazing birds to share a home with!

  • @katiedenski681

    Dakota/Landshark doesn't care for other parrots so how does Dakota interact with other people besides yourself? I'm glad you are honest about how loud they are. A Hawkhead personality isn't for a beginner AT ALL. I wish more owners of Hawk Head parrots would really reiterate this to the public. People see a pretty bird and "Ooh and ahh" over it and then everybody wants one because they are "pretty" without true knowledge of this species personality. Though there isnt much out to begin with, there is more out there now than there was 5 years ago, but still not much in comparison to much more common species. I am relieved they hiked the price of this parrot up so not every one can own one because it is not a parrot for just any body.

    • @ParrotBliss
      @ParrotBliss  Год назад

      I agree, and agree, and agree - it sounds like you have one? I got to say, I don’t know how breeders breed them. They just don’t get along with others. However, LandShark does well with people. She’d rather do her own thing and shark around, but she does like people. Yes, the last prices I saw were like 10,000. Definitely not a bird that a beginner is going to buy. I agree with you, sometimes the crazy high prices are well deserved, because they are so rare and not so easy to breed, and because They are a special bird that someone needs to understand how to handle. When Hawk-heads bite, you know it!
