- Canada's National Horse, the Canadian Horse, can trace its roots all the way back to the stables of King Louis XIV of France. This once popular working horse is, unfortunately, heading toward extinction.
Breeder Dan Wilson of Woodmont Farms in Ladysmith, B.C., along with Coach and Trainer Samantha Bateman, are trying to bring more awareness to the significance of this stunning heritage breed.

Dis he said that the Cheval Canadien came from a breed named "moranis" in France? I'm not sure of what I ear.
Merens. If you Google the Merens horse breed from France you’ll see they look very similar to Canadians. There’s no actual genetic proof (yet) that Canadians are descended fully or partially from Merens horses though. Hopefully a genetic link will be researched and clarified in the next few years.
