Flowey is peak writing
Flowey was a decent villain in Normal route, a nice antagonist in Pacifist, but he really shines in genocide. You really put yourself in his -pot- shoes and see why he's such a maniac.
My favorite part about the genocide route is that Toby made it so that you basically can't do it by accident, you have to go through every place and kill every enemy, so you actively have to do the genocide route by choice instead of being able to do it by accident
The samething goes to pacifist... you need to do a lot of things like saving undyne that is not mentioned that you can water her...

i give you the point for coming back to waterfall but the water dispenser its obvious.
pacifist its much easier to do, you just have to be nice to everyone, in genocide you have to stay in the same area grinding monsters, a lot harder and it goes against what the game tells you to do
@@anthonygamer-jg3wn In my very first run of Undertale, I didn't even know you could run away from Undyne. Because, like, what boss fight in an RPG could you run away from? The ability to run didn't make sense to me, so I never tried.

What's interesting about Genocide is that if you played on Pacifist (or neutral), Asgore will say that he wants to ask if Frisk wants a cup of tea, but can't since they're a human. In Genocide, he just asks Frisk if they want a cup of tea, meaning Frisk is no longer "human" at that point.

Im pretty sure, although my memory of the genicide route is a bit old so i may be wrong, that he references you being covered in monster dust, and thinking you're a monster as a result. Or maybe i just interpreted it that way and my brain preserved my memory as that being exactly what asgore said
@@tuxtitan780 He doesn't mention anything about monster dust. Closest you get is that Flowey warned him about you, though it never goes into detail about what was said.
He straight up asks you what kind of monster you are because he is unable to tell.
@ragingfirefrog598 yeah I'm honestly not sure where I got that from then. I'm thinking it was mentioned by somebody at some point in the run but the more I think the more I don't know, honestly might just use this as an excuse to replay the game lol

Honestly wished Undertale had an alternative route to Genocide, like Heartless, where the player not only is going out of their way to kill every monster, but takes every opportunity with the Boss battles to feign pacifist only to strike em at their weakest/given up. While functionally still meeting the same ending, having it be a condition for something more like a bonus ending would have been great
When you meet Chara at the end, this is what they say:

"You are really a psycho, huh?"
"I'm not even giving you a choice, I'm destroying this world and you are never coming back."
"Goodbye."
Then the game crashes and when you reopen it, you're left on a black screen with repeated laughter.

undyne the undying was the most satisfying boss fight to finally beat that i’ve ever done. she took me a solid week of attempts. such an amazing fight

The genocide run is also the one time we see every single character at their absolute best. Toriel lets go of her grief just as she's dying to see that she isn't to blame for what happened to the other humans, since clearly she wouldn't be able to actually stop any of them. Papyrus straight up showcases the definition of bravery, which we see up until the very moment he dies. Undyne...god she's just the best of these characters, it goes without saying that she's definitely a better version of herself. Alphys quickly recognized the situation and took action (but didn't call Asgore and tell him to absorb the souls I guess) to hide everyone, revealing the bunker's secrets. Sans- no need to elaborate. Asgore...uh- I got nothing but EVEN FLOWEY is showing the best of himself in the end.
Asgore did consume the souls. But was still too weak against a human soul that have been fed the souls of warriors like sans. And andyine and many other monsters

Alphys is actually one of my favorite characters in terms of character writing and the narrative, but even I have to agree… her updates and calls in Hotland were really annoying, especially if you’re playing not for the first time

Man that’s actually so damn sad. Literally the whole point of sans’ fight is to be insanely hard to make people not want to take that route, but it ends up being the exact reason why people do it, it’s the only reason I ever did a genocide route too lol. Then again, does that mean sans wins in the end since we don’t destroy the world and choose to keep reloading and fighting him over and over?

Well no because every time you reset you’re killing everyone all over again and beating sans thousands of times, you’re destroying the world hundreds of times on your own terms and Sans is trapped in a cycle you have control over,,he may convince himself it’s a win but dying to human curiosity repeatedly sounds like a living hell 😳
The game acknowledges how unfair it is, we have muscle memory and can learn the fights by heart after every reset. We can die thousands of times and reset, for Sans and Undyne it only takes one hit/they cannot learn to outsmart you. They will always perform the same scripted movements, I think Undyne the Undying says something like “whatever you are” and that’s frightening to me

Another cool difference is the fact that if you keep dodging shyren's attacks in pacifist it will say that sans is selling tickets to the concert on toilet paper while in genocide it will say that a dark figure is watching from afar

The game tricks you into thinking you have complete freedom of action and that there will be no consecuences by showing clear signs that you can RESET the world, and rebuild the story completely, until you end the Genocide route. From that point forward, the player's SOUL is bound to Chara, forcing them to experience their presence every time they end the story another time, showing you that you can't do as you wish without a punishment.
Deltarune is the complete opposite, removing your freedom completely except for some isolated moments, such as the secret bosses or the Weird Route, but shows that your mere presence as an ovserver is having an impact in this world, just not a good one, from a certain point of view, as you steal another being's freedom to have a small portion of what was originally offered, and forcing them to ACT as YOU, the player, believe is the right way to do it.

I always felt that Papyrus serves as the deterrent to Genocide, if you're willing to kill the nicest character in the game, you're beyond saving.
When you kill Toriel, you're already a monster, when you kill Papyrus, you're a souless scum, if you kill both,you're beyond any kind of saving.

The genocide route is genuinely amazing. The parallels between Flowey and Frisk (or the player if you wish to believe so) are just genius. And, of course, the boss fights are really cool too.

I understand your point, but I guess this hypocrisy is fine. The king lost his soon, the humans didn't showed mercy to child, so he won't to their children.
It's a vengeful thing that broke a man and "made" he do all of this atrocities to prevent this thing to happen again to his kind.
Still, none of the monsters, beside Tori, showed any mercy to the past children, so you didn't have to, but the point is that you are better than that and will not fall to this "If you hurt me, I'll hurt you" thing.
It's hypocritical of them, but is cool to trying repair these broken folks. It is still a game, so I guess it shouldn't matter, this is what genocide implies.

@@TheShurimanPigeon Yes, every other is just following his path, without even considering regret. This is the shame of them, honestly. They are blind to this suppose promise that everything will be better if they hurt this child and get the last soul, even though neither Asgore is fine with that.
I would like to see more of Asgore, a tea time with him would be so great. We know a lot of him because of what the others said, but not because of himself.

Exactly! I actually don’t mind the grinding because of the old school RPGs I used to play where grinding would help me level up and that difficulty spike is just *chef’s kiss* like people who don’t like the genocide route don’t have to do it but if you ever think Undertale is too easy, play the genocide route and trust me, it *IS* satisfying when you first complete it.

@@invader8491 In a way, yes. Due to how genius Toby’s characters are written, I actually aborted genocide on my first run because of Papyrus and I got a really rewarding neutral ending because of it. The thing with Undertale is that once you have done everything on Pacifist, your only choice left to do something different is probably genocide. It’s not like I don’t feel bad for the characters but I have to put my feelings aside if I want a really challenging experience.
