Merveilleux airs qui transpercent encore et toujours mon cœur de français de 65 ans. J'ai découvert ce style en 1975 avec Pierre Bensusan, un magnifique guitariste lui aussi. Merci Stephen ! 👍
Superb! i remember i found your channel 2 years ago, then i learned how to play the Three Irish Reels, although i play the guitar as a hobby and my perfomance is kind of sloppy, people still love it, whenever i play your songs/arrangements they get amazed haha, it's great to come back to your channel to listen to your music again man, top notch quality. Peace!
My guitarist sister and I are playing Irish Trad together now and I introduced you to her with this video, told her you set the bar for Celtic Guitar, and that you’re her new guru! :)
This makes me so happy every time I hear it. Thank you again for all your work to reach and sustain this level of technical brilliance, voicing, phrasing, facility. Truly inspiring.
I guessed , you are the guitar genious...I really appreciate everything you did and the things you will do in guitar music. Many thanks to you,Stephen !!!My best wishes and regards from Moscow, Russia. Svetlana.
Super Playing .. the most hypnotic mesmerizing playing. It sounds so effortless and gentle. you lift the music beyond the instrument and that is a gift . and as a guitar player myself I understand how difficult it is to achieve that . Hat's off to you Stephen..
He`s a tasty player alright but you do realise you are hearing two guitars on this video, the audio on the video was recorded in the studio and Stephen is just doing his thing outside for the visual aspect, I read your comment and thought.....reply to this.....one of my mates thought he was playing it live in the video.....take care and keep playing..
Good man Stephen, are you honestly say there is just one guitar on that tune? You didn't double track or give yourself a wee bit of subtle accompanyment? If that's the case then I apologise for the suggestion and I tip my hat to you 😎 I've been playing almost 41 years as a trad player a session player rock blues and jazz, I'm gonna have to listen to the tune again in the studio, I'm not trying to prove you wrong I wanna check and test my ears 👍 peace and love to you Brother Man ✌️❤️😎
@@DocRockBaby I've listened to most of Stephens Wakes tracks, It never crossed my mind to think the guitar is double tracked. I do think it is excellently recorded. Neither did it cross my mind that it was actually recorded outside. I just find his style and approach to playing a breath of fresh air . After years of watching technically brilliant classical and Steel string guitar players , "Beatin' the shite out of guitars" . I just really really like this playing. So I bought one of his albums which came with the music and Tabs, and It's trying to learn a couple of his tunes that is keeping my playing .. and I have good days and bad days :-)
@@eoinbutler100 Good man Eoin, Stephen assures me that its one guitar and one track, so I apologised for the suggestion but told him I was going to listen to it again in the studio just to check my ears, for me the jury is still out, Ive been playing for 40 odd years taught myself how to play and learned everything by ear, I cant read music or tabs and dont understand theory and this is the first time they let me down, dont get me wrong Im not trying to put him down or take away from him the man is a fantastic player with a gorgeous touch, Im just not 100% convinced, stick with the playing if youre having trouble with certain parts just break them down to 2 or 3 notes if you have to,, as for good/bad days we all get them, take care duder,
Your music sounds absolutely amazing. I myself own to Larrivee guitars and love Celtic music.......it truly makes me feel like I'm in Ireland how did you ever learn to play Celtic music that good you're the best I've ever heard hands-down
Zachariah Turner Thank you Zach! Try to practice a bit of technique every day, after a short period of time you will notice an improvement in your playing. Hope this helps, Stephen
Hi Stephen! Great technique with your right hand. I play acoustic guitar since I was a child and I studied a lot of Celtic tunes arranged by Morone, Bensusan etc. But in the last two years I haven't touched my guitar almost at all due to different things happened in my life. Well, then I heard your arrangements and they are stunning. I just bought you're tabs and started practice again. Thanks!
among other things, what distinguishes Stephen Wake's playing from other Celtic DADGAD guitar players is his clean, warm near perfect renditions of tunes. I also love his choice ot tunes
Also, random thought - thank you for mentioning the idea of a reduced set! Many traditional Irish recordings have extremely long sets, where the tunes are played anywhere from 3 to 5×. And if there is a double (32 bar) reel) for example, that can get lengthy. I’ve noticed a lot of Scottish & Nova Scotia musicians play longer sets (with several more tunes), but they are played only twice through. This is not always the case but I do like it. It can get burdensome as well, playing long sets with complicated, note-y tunes. Even just playing a set of three reels, three times through, can be too long sometimes. It’s fun to do it twice thru and then move on I think. I’ve played fiddle and whistle by the way, since 2000. :-)
Can someone explain to me the difference between a Jig, Slip Jig, and a Reel? I am currently learning Mouse in the Mug. Thank you for inspiring me to learn this style of guitar Stephen. I come from the Merle Travis/Chet Atkins realm of fingerstyle guitar so this has been a breath of fresh air for me.
I bought the album and PDF tablature. Good stuff but unfortunately there is no fingering included in the tablature. Please consider adding fingering in any future releases.
Yup: I used to have a 0-model Larrivée to, but I got rid of in a previous life, and I think I'm regretting that now. I stuck to my 2 German steel-string Lakewood made by Lakewood (Martin Seeliger) in Gießen, Germany. One ist an 0-18, the other one a dreadnought model. You have such a full-bodied and crystal-clear that underlies your excellent fingerwork. Truly inspiring.
This is studio recorded with ambient sounds added afterwards. I am almost certainly sure - you can hear how close the mic is to the guitar in the audio recording :)
I played something similar in a Sicilian fest...they watched me as Michael J.Fox in the last concert of Return to Future. At the end i discovered that some Tarantella is not so far away.
Love these Celtic songs and especially in fingerstyle. I find tuning to 432 HZ really brings out that melodic soulful sound compared to the brightness of 440. Early Celtic music was probably played in 432, so I'm going back to the roots to fully appreciate it. If you were so inclined, could you do a Jig or Reel in 432 for comparison?

I love celtic tunes❤❤❤
I love how you add some out of key/chromatic/blue notes/whatever you want to call them in Black Pat's, it really adds some color and flavor in there.

Your music has been a journey for me the past several years. So much love for you Stephen.

Thank you, Saoirse, for spreading the word! Would be nice to hear your sister play a tune ☘☘☘
I've have heard a lot of traditional music. I've never once heard a guitar player in that style as well ever. Pure talent.💪
Dick Gaughan did something similar many years ago. If not to the same standard? But perhaps yes.
That's the most flawless bit of playing I've heard in a long long time. Untrained ears would say it was a band. Perfect.🤛👌👌
Love it! It makes me more in love with that instrument! Thanks for sharing your talent with us!

Wow brother... This is better than therapy, thank you 🙏🎅💜

Awesome musicianship!
I love your music You brought beautiful Irish music to another level
It felt like infinity... Beautiful!!
That sums it up very well.
Love it. You really take the bassines for a walk
Beautiful playing!!! Love your work!!
Awesome. I believe “Black Pat’s” was composed by the great fiddler Tommy Peoples. I learned it personally from his daughter Siobhán!
Thanks for the info! Will update the credits!
This is epic & I've not heard picking like this before exactly what I was looking for
Fantastic playing, sounds great, lovely area also!

This set sounds great, but you should consider adding in the 3rd part of Larry's Favorite. For me, it's what really makes that tune.
oh wait, it's there. how did I miss that? sorry
inspired
Is lovely feeling thank you blessed 😊✨✨✨💞💞💞💞❤
Is this tuning one you use frequently for Celtic tunes or is it specific to this set?
Yes, this is CGDGCD, my favourite tuning for making Celtic arrangements.
Nice ... how would you record something like this outside and not collect too much ambient sounds ?
This is studio recorded with ambient sounds added afterwards. I am almost certainly sure - you can hear how close the mic is to the guitar in the audio recording :)
Is this in an open tuning?
