As much as I’d love to see the Boks lift the cup once again, it seems that Siya & the boys are fatigued especially after those 2 monstrous clashes against France & England. I hope the Boks can do it again but hey, if there’s 1 team that I wouldn’t mind losing to then it’s the All Blacks. Whatever happens on Saturday, the All Blacks to me are still the most exciting & electrifying team in world rugby. South Africa have their unique qualities like our scrum and line outs but the ABs make rugby look like art. If they win it’s because they deserve it. Other than Ireland and France every other game was basically a walk over and as a result, an excellent way to build confidence. They were tested twice. It is THE matchup, maybe in any sport:
It has to be 2 countries (patriotism isn't 1/2 as strong with clubs). These countries have to have that sport as not only the biggest in the country, but the one that the country lives and breathes and is known for. Then there has to be history, an equal win/loss history, with cultural factors/ talking points (apartheid, 1981, ear bites, punches thrown at first scrum, 1995 etc etc). Then that sport has to be as close to war as can be (rugby is in the conversation, if not the war sport)
    THE matchup.

The suggestion about how the WC should be drawn is ‘interesting’.
World Cups don’t need to reward teams for playing ‘between’ World Cups - should we now give failing teams a medal or certificate to make them feel better about themselves..?😂
If you are ‘ best team in the world’ for 4 years (Ireland) and you can’t crack the Quarters - don’t cry about it afterwards. 🤣
You don’t hear the big boys moaning about having to play the best teams. Ireland too used to playing at the Aviva and beating teams during November’s end of year tours.

I will say that there is something more than just representing your country about being a All black or a springbok. I think this is the deciding factor of why these two teams do so well at world cups.
With the greatest respect to the northern hemisphere teams, I don’t think it’s quite the same representing their countries.
There is a history and a tradition, that lifts an Allblack or a springbok to an almost immortal level. And I firmly believe that drives these two teams to dig deep and lift to another level come World Cup time.
You can see it in the respect as well when these two teams player. They know what it’s like to be in the other shoe. I think Ireland found a little bit this World Cup, but sadly not enough for them to get through.

NZ will walk it because the Bokes, very hard last few games compared to NZ. France was ok to lose to and NZ hardest game overall was Ireland which was a debatable win because of a hold up try Ireland should have scored from. Anyway best two rugby nations overall.

Remember ABs got a yellow card right after that because old eagle eyes ref missing the forward pass but could spot the fingertip of an ABs player touching the ball. What a joke!!!!!!

the bokke rely on a physical game more so than the allblacks, hence they take a harder toll from their matches. If the situation were to reverse, the bok may well have struggled with a physical Argentina whereas the all blacks may have made lighter work of Scotland and England.

Interesting suggestion with regards to selecting the quarterfinal matchups. I would suggest, however, that the quarterfinals are decided based on the rankings after the pool play, and not before the cup starts. A week is a long time in rugby, and gamesmanship could easily come into it, especially if a certain team loses key personal to injury, or want to rest ahead of the knockouts. If you're ranked 1 pre tournament and then you're definitely going to qualify for the quarters going into the final round of pool play, what incentive is there for you to play your best players and end top of the pool?

The All Blacks were only tested twice by France and Ireland. The Boks had Ireland,France,Scotland and England and a Tongo which peaked late in the tournament. I'm a little worried about the Boks around the possibility of fatigue. Nevertheless, my blood is green. We win together and lose together.

The one problem to the knock-out stage suggestion is that it takes no account of whether the team finishes first or second in the pool. Maybe, the ranking should be taken after the pool stages have finished as this will take some account of pool performance.

Arg defensive line was really poor. All that NZ had to do is to play it wide and they were through. This will give NZ a false sense of security in the final. SA is a different beast in defence and NZ won't get these holes. This will be a fowards game and NZ will make a huge mistake to play out of hand which will lead to faults leading to scrums playing into SA's hands. It will be a very wet field. I believe SA should win and will pull away around 70min

  • @matthewviliamu2679
    @matthewviliamu2679 11 месяцев назад

Please don't focus on the refereeing decisions in the next pod. It'll just sound like sour grapes. The talking points should be about the ABs looking rushed and panicked trying to get the ball to the edge which is the mistakes they made for much of the 4 years under foster. That last forced pass from Ardie trying to get the ball to ALB, when we just needed to keep possesion especially in their half was a real momentum killer and there were heaps of them throughout that second half. We lost the final ourselves

Dont know why there is this loveaffair with libok. He is tackling @ 65% and there has been no real running moves except for 1 nolook kick and not to mention his pispoor goalkicking... in all the games he has started excluding the ab's game , we gave the opponents 30min free and a dominant start . He hasnt exited the 22 with any success and that puts pressure on the whole team and gives the oposition to much momentum. Everyone blowing smoke up libok needs to explain why. Pollard is miles better and is the highest paid rugby player in the world. There is no reason he cant play the full 80 . Another player that should not be playing is Willie replace him with moody .
I said this when the team was selected for france .... that the selection was wrong and dangerous . It turns out we bearly beat a team we should have beaten by 10 plus....just go have a look at your predictions. Then rassie repeats the mistake and it almost got us out of the wc .. we cannot afford to give any team 30 min of dominance let alone the ab's . If rassie selects libok again we will loose . Willie is also a player that should not be in the team ..swap him for moody . I have already locked in my score for the weekend hoping rassie had learnt from his mistakes. But if we persist with libok we are lost.

The TMO really is a blight on the game, but so are the rules. That stupid penalty error rule also needs to be changed. If the ref himself knows, he can't just laugh it off and watch 3 points get kicked.
An idea: For head knocks it should be 10 minutes in the bin unless it is an obvious act of malicious intent (off for the rest of the game). If it requires the injured party to go through off field HIA protocols then add 12 minutes. If the player is withdrawn from the game, then the tackler should also be withdrawn and replaced with someone off the bench at the end of his 22 minute binning. Something like that.
    Just totally ruining the sport.
