Hello, I'm R&D at Bowser. In regards to the design of the headlight with the fiberoptic to the LED, I'm actively talking to Lee about a way to change that. As a modeler myself, I've never been a fan of how dim they are myself. Definitely want to see it changed on our upcoming -2W and GMD straight 40. As a side note, I really appreciate videos like this with your concerns/ the viewers concerns on anything as it greatly helps with fixing issues you guys have.
That ol green PC boxcar looked awesome! So many pod guys run their consists pristine which is ok but quite frankly too toy-like! That PC door assembly was so grimy just like expected normal wear n tear one would expect from a 40yo car body! Great job.
I have an SD30 ECO that I installed a Tsunami 2 Decoder and Scale Sound Systems Speaker. I was very impressed with the level of detail and the looks of the Locomotive. It's one of my faves!
These really came out great from Bowser! Did you swap from the factory cube speakers to the scale sound? I am very curious as to how much of a difference in the sound there would be.
I recently subscribed, you cover every thing i want to see. I like that you show the inside with the shell off. Also I really like Bowser, I might rate them at number #1 personally.
Great video Steve! I purchased the CP SD40-2 Rebuilt version when it was released and I love it. It looks great and sounds great. Bowser knocked it out the park.
22:25 yeah in the few previous runs of the sd40-2 (including the sd40-2f red barns) the way the ditchlights worked was through metal contacts on the shell and chassis, that would touch when the body shell was attached
Nice review Steve. I only have four Bowser locos in my collection, two SP C628's and a C630. I do have an original Bowser/ Stewart Hobbies U 25-B in SP Bicentennial colour scheme. Might have to invest in few after seeing this review.
Beautiful engines and I have one. My only ding is they have weak motors. I have emailed Lee English about this on a couple of occasions. They run silky smooth but pull like a 4 axle. Nice review.
I have heard that before about the bowser units being a little weak, ill have to pay a little more attention when I run mine to see how the pull. Thank you!
I will definitely make a video on the LED installation. Hopefully sometime around the end of the year depending on how a few projects I have planned ahead of them go.
I currently have six units myself, and I really enjoy them. I’ve been thinking the same thing about the front headlight. I’d definitely be interested in seeing a video on how to swap out the lights and the board. Cheers
be careful when removing the shell. those ditch light wires are tricky cause it make one ditch light not turn on. that what happen to my 2024 sd40f locomotive. i wanted to upgrade the speaker to dual sugar cube speaker and found out that newer runs have sugar cube sneaker in them. anyway when i put shell back on and tested it out one of the ditch lights didn't work so i open it up and spaces out the wires on ditch lights. the lights work now but if magnet wires touch it make that lights not work.
I always try to be careful with wiring when opening up locomotives as best I can. I wasn’t expecting them to use the magnet wiring tho as thats a first that I can recall in a production locomotive. Definitely not a fan of magnet wires myself.
Interesting... I bought a DCC Ready SD40-2F from the latest run, when I first tested it out the right ditch light wasn't working. I took the shell off and installed a lokpilot, then magically it was working, that must have been the reason why then!
I believe it has something to do with how the ESU decoders use a 3 wire keep alive so sound files can be changed without having disconnect the keep alive. I imagine that the keep alive not be turn on has to do with Bowser using the same sound file as a previous run that didn’t have them.
@@ConrailSteve dont edit it out honestly. gives your videos the feel of home, it is small and cute/funny. at least they arent on the layout playing godzilla, that was what my cat did when I was a kid, slept on the layout and baffed engines and scenery around.
Simple solution for your two screws just measure or take a screw with you at a Home Depot or wherever I call him Jesus clips, but they’re eclipse snap them around the very bottom of the thread after you poke. The screw through screw is not going anywhere.

Thank you! I feel the same way about freight cars all being un weathered thus try to only run cars that are weathered on my layout.

@@ConrailSteve I bought a DC version that didn't come with a speaker. I purchased a jst plug to connect the SSS speaker into the Bowser Motherboard.
These locos look amazing! Will definitely be getting one for my fleet!
They really are excellent and well worth the money!
I bought two of them. I'm blown away on them. Great detail and sounds.
Bowser really did an excellent job!!

Thank you! I am glad you are enjoying the channel! Bowser is a favorite of mine as well.
Great video Steve! I purchased the CP SD40-2 Rebuilt version when it was released and I love it. It looks great and sounds great. Bowser knocked it out the park.
Thank you! Those rebuilt units really make me wish I modeled more current time as they look fantastic from what I have seen!
Nice video beautiful locomotives
Thank you!

Thats same way Atlas did the ditch lights on the Dash 40-8 CW’s as well. I prefer the hardwired with connectors that bowser went with.
Underneath the speakers at 22:12 is the unadvertised powerpack. Set AUX12 to PowerPackControl and it’s gonna work!
What cv would that be?
Glad they added the power pack this run!!

Yes, SD40-2 is king. Also, the video on LED install will be nice when you get around to it. Always interesting to see how different people do it.
I will definitely make a video on the LED installation. Hopefully sometime around the end of the year depending on how a few projects I have planned ahead of them go.
I need the angled blower SD40-2 after that the others ....gotta do a strip down and redetail and paint for ALL...
Any particular reason to do a full repaint on these? Details didn’t seen bad or too far off from the photos I compared to.
@@ConrailSteve America Latina Logistica bought about 35 from NRE around 2006....regauged, rebuilt and repainted....
Interesting, sounds like it will make for a neat project.

Look for a video on doing that work around January. I hope to start on these around mid December and have the build video out in January.
I believe the parts in the bag are rerailing frogs that attach to or near the back of the rear trucks.
Thank you! Ill have to study some prototype photos to see exactly their location on each unit.
WOW !
Thank you!

3:30 = Re-railers
Thank you for the info!
Looks like rerailers in the bag. Not sure on them being black though? They usually go below the walkway sill near the back trucks
Good call on the retailers! Ill have to study prototype photos and see exactly where they should be mounted. Nice of Bowser to include them!
why would the keep alive not work till you turn it on? that seems a bit silly doesn't it
Its just a compacister that acts like a battery it store a charge for a short time

Hi CR Steve & it's is Randy and i like yours video is Cool & Thanks CR Steve & Friends Randy
Thank you Randy!!!!
Nice preview on the Sd40-2. They are called rock plow
Thank you! And Rock plow 🤦♂️ Crazy the things that I forget when I go to record a video lol
is there a cat playing with a jiggle ball in the back ground?
🤦♂️ I knew I forgot to edit something out! 😂 I swear every time I got to record anything in the Layout the Cats decide its play time lol
