Very cute industrial railway. Had to check the gauge on the web, it's a tiny tiny 18 inches (547mm) ! But the original line was standard gauge.
The remains of the cable hauled part are notable. It's pretty obvious of how it used to work. The wagon-catcher looks like and idea coming straight from a Sam's train experiment....

    • @SamsTrains

If you go back to the Cromford and High Peak Railway soon on it there is the Middleton Top Incline Engine House. It’s a winding house with a persevered twin beam engine in which now runs on compressed air on open days instead of steam. There is also the leawood pump house which pumped water into the Cromford canal. It has a preserved Non Rotative beam engine which still runs on steam! It’s a bit like Tees Cottage Pumping Station where I volunteer (that’s what my channel is named after)

If you can find it, check out some of the old videos of the Cromford and high peak railway when it was working. You see that the cable was a continuous loop and the wagons would be lashed to the cable to be hauled up and down. Most of the time gravity would be used with the steam engine acting as a helper.

I have been looking at the "Bachmann whiskies galore fitted sound train set", and was wondering if you had any thoughts on it, or if you had any recommendations, from someone looking to get into the hobby, and is quite serious about trains. Thanks, keep the good content up,
    Miles
Edit: Or, could it be worth it to buy the pieces separately, and create it that way, as then I get choice of loco, and also rolling stock. Do you have any shop links to those, which will also support the channel?
