Awhile back Thomas Gilman was getting interviewed about people thinking hes not humble which his reply was "Im in the room with Spencer Freaking Lee, grab that guy for a workout he'll humble ya"
@@MrSilus2000 what are you talking about? Spencer "freaking" Lee comes from a Gilman quote when they were both at Iowa. The full quote was : "I'm in the room with Spencer freaking Lee. Grab that guy for a workout he'll humble ya."
The U.S. Olympic trials had a significant issue that needs to be addressed. Taylor was literally practicing at his own pace for a WHOLE YEAR (he claimed he was gardening at home!), and then he had to compete against Brooks in the trials. This was not an organic process for a wrestler. Taylor should have been more actively involved in wrestling competitions throughout the year to prepare adequately.
@@Not-the-only-one I didn't blame the US olympic committee mate, and I don't agree that it is the wrestler's fault. My point is that the process is broken and needs to be revisited because it is too safe for the top guy who goes directly to the third round. This has been happening over and over again.
Right, that and 9/10 times that leg turk he was receiving gets stopped way earlier for caution. International freestyle officiating is always as consistent as teenagers officiating youth matches.
That is what me and my friend were talking about. First it's amazing he fought it off. But he did get zapped by it. On the international level, that was experience. Aaron used the college hang onto the leg to end the period.
He is representing Bulgaria but he's from Dagestan. It's actually insane how many medal the guys from southwest Russia are getting when they're the B level guys.
@@rizzomatt Agreed, his resistance to being turned was amazing, but after that he didn’t seem to me to have the same “fire” and focus. You can watch Dave Schultz do the same move on Kenny Monday in their 1988 Olympic trials matches, and Monday kept his focus despite Schultz’ brutal execution of that move. Their trials matches are on RUclips. I think Brooks’ loss today was-as is mentioned elsewhere in these comments-a lack of experience loss. My two cents anyway.
Good commentary for wrestlers! Also good to see you guys having some fun too - wrestling is too hard to not have some fun sometimes (old wrestler/coach here)
Spencer scared me big time with the Chinese wrestler....then he settled down into the old Spencer. Great matches....That back-bow took a lot out of Aaron Brooks

Turns out Brooks, like Taylor, is not a wrestler with a young prime. Four more years against the Best in The World and he should be good for Gold on American soil.

It’s up to Taylor to compete, not the US Olympic committee. That responsibility lies solely on Taylor.
