Houston... We Have Paint !!! Damn that looks gorgeous!!! Always love your process. You have spent so much time and effort to create a sterile environment for your booth, it is a shame that you are still getting that much trash. Like you, I occasionally watch "The Gunman" and I believe he prefers to not wet the floor. Cheers to you buddy... What a gem you and Pops are creating.
Thank you very much. You may be on to something with the compressor. We tried to hide it behind plastic, but we were having to much trouble with the plastic puffing out, so we removed it. @@bakertheairplanemaker4973 No worries! It was a LONG video, LOL. I could have gone either way, but with waterborne basecoat, any water drops that got in it would have been disaster.
Dude you need tweezers :) I pick things out(bugs, really big chunks) :) really really fine sharp tweezers help pull the big crap out. those big drips are crazy... thats as good as you can in that environment honestly.. cutting and buffing works :)
Great job! Paint looks awesome, now the fun part of finally assembling and making it drive for you and pops to go cruise in! Would you have any idea of the price it has cost for supplies/paint? I know its hard to tell its been such a long journey but just curious
Thanks Christian. A LOT $$$. LOL. We have about $2k in base coat, $800 in sealer (I could not get quarts, so I have a lot left over!). Probably about $1200 in clear + tint. That is all just for the final paint. There was all the stuff that came before. Probably $1200 in epoxy. So, it is a $8k paint job pretty close not counting labor. The tri-coat + red really bumps up the price.
Thanks John. I mentioned in the video that I did not want to get the floor wet. We were not seeing classing "trash" in the paint from overspray and such, so I decided not to do it.
I hope my paint job turns out half as good as yours. Looks very good. Glad to see you got it done! What was the issue with the sealer when you were starting off?
Thank you very much. We had a big gap between when I started spraying the sealer and when I went back for the second coat. The sealer had kicked in the cup and the gun. So, it was TOO thick to spray. I kept fiddling with the gun, but to no avail. So, I took the cup off thinking I needed to clean the gun. That is when I found it.
asicerik I have an FLG 4 and a Kobalt 60 gallon compressor and you posting the gun, PSI and settings was very helpful. Definitely will help me! I’ve done the core support (and accessories to it) underhood and wheel wells so far, didn’t come out too bad. Going to tackle the rest of the car this week. What was your PSI at the air compressor?
@@highspeednoblesgarage3152 It is a pretty good gun. I have 120 psi at the compressor, but regulated down to 100 or so at the first filter. My dessicant filter has another regulator right before the air hose for spray painting. That one is probably around 50psi.
Not sure I get your question. Do you mean from the front? Or why I started over the edge where the hood and fender meet? If the latter, I don't know. I probably should have. Part of what I was thinking is I wanted a flat surface so I could really see how the paint was laying down.
Just finished the video, the hair prbably came from pops, leaning over the paint. As far as the trash goes, if you are using the same gun for sealer, base and clear that can cause problems even if you clean it out. Most painters have a primer gun, base gun and clear. Even if they are harbor frieght guns its better than trash. It would have been better to wet the floor. when you spray the rockers, bottom of the fenders ect it kicks up a ton of trash. The fan also probably did more harm than good. You want to control the air, not have it swirl around. have 2 fans on each end, one doing push and the other pull, out a door or somthing.
I used a different gun for sealer vs. base + clear. I agree it would be better to have different guns for base & clear, but oh well. There is no way I could have sprayed w/o the exhaust fan. It is a Jenny 16", so pretty chunky. Even with that, there is a lot of mist in the air. I can't remember why I did not wet the floor, maybe I did and it all evaporated. It was really hot. Thanks for your input, all good points. I would say I am pretty pleased with how it turned out all things considered.
Oh forgot to mention, the source of the big trash was the compressor. It was kicking all kinds of crap off the belt/etc. We put a dog house over it for the flow coat and it was MUCH better.
Thanks. The videos are the best log. We probably average 4 hours of work per video, So, somewhere around 1,000 hours. Pops has been there for 1/2 or more, so total 1,500 person-hours or something.
At 10:20 in i cant see any black in the sealer unless the camera isn't picking it up. so I'm wondering if it happen in the first base coat?, and if it was the compressor belt why would in not have been in the sealer? just trying to figure where the contamination came from, also I wouldn't think rubber particles would float through the air in chunks like that. Just thinking out loud on your channel lol
There is a reason your channel is one of only a few that I watch

@@asicerik That would be awesome, can't wait!
Dude you need tweezers :) I pick things out(bugs, really big chunks) :) really really fine sharp tweezers help pull the big crap out. those big drips are crazy... thats as good as you can in that environment honestly.. cutting and buffing works :)
I had tweezers! I was overwhelmed LOL
Looks good cut buff most of that will come out looks great
Thank you very much!
@@asicerik fixing to paint a corvair spider turbo car in few weeks can't wait to see ur car all together
Looks good
Thank you very much Richard!
All and all great fucking job buddy
Thank you very much
Looks really good. Congrats. That crap should buff out. Any reason why you didn’t water the floor?
Thanks John. I mentioned in the video that I did not want to get the floor wet. We were not seeing classing "trash" in the paint from overspray and such, so I decided not to do it.
Looking good
Got to love the guy in street clothes leaning all over the car getting trash in it.
Yeah, probably not the smartest move :)
GREAT JOB .....
That one is probably around 50psi.
when you started spraying red you did not start at the top edge of the right fender. i wondered why?
Inspiration lads. Did you keep a record of hours on the build?
Thanks. The videos are the best log. We probably average 4 hours of work per video, So, somewhere around 1,000 hours. Pops has been there for 1/2 or more, so total 1,500 person-hours or something.
Hey eric great job did u mix the med coat in the clear or in a inter coat
Thanks a lot! PPG calls for it in clear coat, not an intercoat. They recommend using the same clear as the top coat as well.
Looking clan
At 10:20 in i cant see any black in the sealer unless the camera isn't picking it up. so I'm wondering if it happen in the first base coat?, and if it was the compressor belt why would in not have been in the sealer? just trying to figure where the contamination came from, also I wouldn't think rubber particles would float through the air in chunks like that. Just thinking out loud on your channel lol
Sweet
Nice
Looks great ad it will be better once its cut and buffed. You done great for never painting a car.
Thank you very much my friend. I cannot be disappointed with these results.
