- Santa Claus is not the only person preparing for a long winter night this holiday. North Pole Alaskans are getting set for the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year when the sun will shine for just under four hours. NBC’s Kerry Sanders reports for TODAY.

We do live in igloos, but have upgraded to fireplaces instead of campfires, in our homes/apartments.
I haven’t been to Alaska but I did go to Iceland which has similar day/night scenario. I was literally jet lagged and sleep deprived the whole 8 days as of course flying from the US stopping in Canada then flying to Iceland which btw when I went had only 4 hours of darkness 😂 so I also literally was jet lagged for 2 weeks after coming back. So I totally understand what it’s like now for people who live in places like Alaska.
to my winter friends, may I asked... do you have refrigerator even if your house in the snow area?
I love Alaska the coldest days are around -57 in Moose Creek but I still would not call that brutal

I lived in Fairbanks for 2 years for college. I had to transfer because I hated the winters so much. Fun fact, thanks to climate change it doesn't get to -55 anymore
