  • In this Tekken 3 retrospective we consider the third pivot of the Tekken story in as many games, where the surprise debut of Jin Kazama replaced Kazuya Mishima, and the supernatural Ancient Ogre showcased the series push into more supernatural territory. Tekken 3 was a seminal finale for the Tekken trilogy appearing on the Sony Playstation, and gave a distinctly next-generation vibe to its cast of characters with the debut of Hwoarang replacing Baek do San, Julia Chang replacing Michelle Chang, and other debutants such as Ling Xiaoyu and Bryan Fury filling out the roster.

Yoshimitsu’s design in Tekken 3 is so iconic that they used it for his appearance in Street Fighter X Tekken. It’s definitely my personal favorite, and I recognized him even before I got into Tekken as a series. This game had fantastic character designs all around, and they still hold up today.

I was surprised they did that at first but really it makes perfect sense that T3 Yoshimitsu is the design they'd use for that crossover, and I guess as it was a Capcom development they weren't going to design a unique Yoshimitsu like they did for SoulCalibur, so they went with the most iconic.
