Não sei porque aqui no Brasil dizem falam sobre uma cultura afro-brasileira, quanto que na verdade os descendentes afro (como eu) não se lembram de absolutamente nada do que se tem de cultura lá na Africa. Nem mesmo os primeiros africanos que vieram forçadamente para o Brasil puderam manifestar sua cultura tal como era lá na Africa. Assim surgiu a capoeira, as danças regionais, o samba, o sincretismo religioso, o designi que podem até ser no estilo africano mas surgiram e nasceram aqui e nunca teve tamanha expressão na Africa. Não se pode dizer que é africano o que bolamos aqui, porque o que os negros e bahianos criaram aqui eram as primeiras raizes da cultura brasileira. Pois os africanos não nos ensinaram nada e nem nos trouxeram nada da sula cultura pra cá. Então está errado ficarmos celebrando a Africa pela cultura dos bahianos e dos negros brasileiros.

It was literally impossible to be alive in the 90s and not knowing her, here in Brazil. I learned how to sing “O Canto da Cidade” without even trying, because it was everywhere! Shes an icon. She still manage to carry on singing for hours and hours during Carnival.
I'm always amazed when I see someone who can dance really well and sing really well at the same time. I was even more amazed when I googled her, checked the original video and saw that she was 51 when it was posted and I'm guessing it was probably a recent performance. I just goes to show what decades of experience and learning how to keep yourself in condition can do for you.
Search for Ivete Sangalo. She's also has similar style of music and around the same age. I like the concert she made at Madison Square Garden, couple of years ago
This performance is all about celebrating blackness - black culture, black dance, black history. So Daniela embodies this strength and self-assuredness. Even after so many years of slavery and racism, black people are saying "We are here. We're strong. Our music is alive. We will live".
I laughed when you said about the video being 6 minutes long which is nothing compared to 120 minutes of this particular show or even when compared to her shows during Carnival Festival in Salvador, that usually are much longer than that. She was 45 when the show you are reacting to was recorded. She's now 58 and still the same on stage. Daniela has always been like that, since late 80s. Also, she started her career as a professional dancer and then as a singer. So yes, she has an incredible breath control and she's worldwide known for that, because like you said, it's pretty rare.
As Gui said, Daniela is one of the great singers we have here in Brazil. She's been doing it for a long time now and in Bahia there's a tradition, at Carnaval, of "trio elétrico". The singers go up big cars and sing and dance for hours and hours while the cars move along the street and they have to be prepared to sing so well for so many hours and under the hot sun, and they don't stop dancing. Singers like Daniela, Ivete Sangalo, Claudia Leitte, Margareth Menezes and some more. It's not easy, but they do it with perfection!
Somehow I missed this when it came out and just got to it. You'd be amazed, she'll keep this level of dancing and singing for hours and then she'll do it all again the same way the next day, and the next, and the next. Those are Brazil's Carnaval entertainers

She doesn't stop singing to catch her breath, she does it to let people get involved and sing along with her. She is used to sing and dance for 6 or 8 hours with very few breaks during Carnival in Brazil. I suggest that you also take a look at Ivete Sangalo. She also sings for 6 or 8 hours in many places in Brazil. Ivete Sangalo doesn't dance as much as Daniela Mercury. She usually jumps a lot and it is really fun to jump and sing with her. She has more or less the same voice tone and entisiasm of Daniela Mercury. I bet you will like Ivete Sangalo too!!!
